1 BCS Quality Specialist Group Minutes of Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday 28 ober 2014 at BCS, Southampton Street, London. Various apologies for absence were received by the Secretary. 1. Minutes of the previous AGM The minutes of the Tuesday 3 December 2013 AGM were read and agreed (proposed by S Barikzai, and seconded by P Linecar) 2. Matters arising from the 2012//2013 AGM There were no matters arising, that were not otherwise included in the business of the meeting. 3.Treasurer's Report Margaret Ross reported that the current Specialist Group membership is 979, across 45 countries and approximately 18% of our members outside the UK Our members are based in Abu Dhabi, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Isle of Mann, Italy, Jersey, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, 0man, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, UK, USA, Vietnam and Zambia. The allocation for 2014/15 is 1,000, which is a steady decline from 2013/15 of 1,400; 2012/13 of 2,763.; 2011/12 of 3,120. As the allocation for 2013/14 was reduced, we cancelled our planned free training events for the Autumn, apart from those that had already been advertised, and introduced to charge non-members for the Tom Gilb courses, (now 40 for non-bcs members, per course, regardless of the course being 1, 2 or 3 days duration, but still free for BCS members). The income for this covered the expenses for Tom Gilb and also Soheir Ghallab and Peter Linecar who provided committee support. Tom and Kai did not claim all their expenses, so we are applying to carry over the surplus to cover their travelling expenses. The conferences made a surplus, which we hope to be allowed to carry over to meet further conference expenses. The Specialist Group also would like to thank the speakers.

Chairman's Report 2013/14 The Report of the Chairman, Geoff Staples, thanked the members of the National Committee, and the International Advisory Committee for the conferences for their sterling work throughout the year. During the year, the Quality SG has successfully undertaken 20 activities (compared with 24 last year) including 9 full-day training sessions, each lasting 1,2 or 3 days, in London for the Under-employed, free for BCS members, kindly given by Tom Gilb Hon FBCS and a free full-day training session in Southampton kindly given by Elli Georgiadou. Further courses have been given and are planned in 2015 with Tom Gilb all of which are still free for BCS members. Four international annual Quality SG conferences were organised. 21 st SQM 2013, and 18 th INSPIRE 2013 were held at BCS, London in ember, with authors and delegates coming from various countries, including USA, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, as well as the UK.. Conference papers were presented also remotely from New Zealand, USA, Spain, Finland and Brussels, thanks to the support from Terry Freedman. Two books of the conference proceedings were printed, Quality Comes of Age ISBN and Education Inspires. ISBN nd SQM 2014, and 19 th INSPIRE 2014 were held at Southampton, in, with authors and delegates coming from various countries, including Armenia, Cyprus, Finland, Greece, India, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Spain,as well as the UK.. Future Events Friday 12 December, Quality Management, one full day course by Tom Gilb at BCS London Monday 15 December2014, Critical Quality Methods that IT Management Should be Aware of: An Overview, evening presentation by Tom Gilb at BCS London The BCS Quality Specialist Group s Annual International 23 rd SQM (Software Quality Management) and 20 th INSPIRE (International conference for Process Improvement, Research and Education) Conferences will be held on Monday 30 th and Tuesday 31 th March 2015 at Loughborough University, UK, details at and papers can be presented again remotely or in person. One page abstracts in Word required asap to Margaret.Ross@solent.ac.uk, with SQM 2015 or INSPIRE 2015 in the Subject line. 7. Any Other Business Various ideas were raised to engage members, especially those outside the UK Webinars, together with the positive experience of Don Southey (who phoned in) Open e-badges, for those that participate in the webinars, also in the conferences (in person or remotely) and in the meetings More Joint events with other BCS SGs and Branches, and also other organisations More publicity of our events, particularly of the free training for BCS members More effective use of Social Media (Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook), Safia Barikzai agreed to look after Twitter and LinkedIn, and to make LinkedIn more interactive for our members and potential members There was no further business 14 attended in person and 2 Phone in from the UK (Charles Ikerionwu from Glasgow and Don Southey from Fujitsu)
