1 Prove that 50MS is doable Identify, publicize, promote, and acknowledge HPE teachers who have succeeded in implementing innovative approaches to getting their students physically active and healthy. Engage these teachers in publicizing 50MS. Establish value of membership Engage x% teachers? Establish the value of members is different from membership. 10 teachers per state (500 teachers) 750 teachers 1000 teachers Convince current members the value of pursuing 50 MS Target a small number of specific locations (#?). Solicit support from partners and develop exemplary models of 50MS schools. Recruit diverse population of schools to highlight (socioeconomic, ethnicity, urban/rural, etc.) 12 schools 24 schools 48 schools Convince current members the value of pursuing 50 MS Research what members truly want. Identify how SHAPE America can help make HPE teaching easier (do we want this word? Should it be quality or excellent or something different?) and thereby make membership essential to teaching success. Education and communication efforts starting with staff to ensure that all organizational efforts are focused on 50MS.

2 Identify children who illustrate what strong looks like. Create publicity (ad campaign?) showing how HPE teachers embracing 50MS are having positive impact on kids (including physical, intellectual, emotional aspects). Recruit partners, celebrities, etc., to advocate the 50MS mission. Create recognition system for 50MS teachers, kids, and schools Create criteria for qualification as a 50 MS school (copied from Strong group) Strong workgroup creates criteria based upon existing tools identified by staff that measure achievement of 50 MS.

3 Establish evidence to illustrate the value of a 50MS school Task the RC to develop a research agenda to illustrate the value of developing 50MS schools and what strategies work and do not work. Impact the professional preparation of future teachers to become 50MS focused immediately upon graduation. Impact orientation of high schoolers interested in HPE teaching toward outcomes of 50MS Connect with PETE programs to ensure teaching faculty are aware of 50MS Charge SA councils to create resource materials for PETE faculty to help in future professional preparation of future teachers to implement 50MS. Develop materials and ambassador program to get high schoolers to embrace 50MS

4 Impact development of physically active and healthy lifestyle habits Birth - PreK Identify how to effectively launch a national campaign to transform health and physical education teaching through pursuing 50 MS Connect with early childhood educators among SHAPE America members to imagine, design, and create program to promote physical activity and health among parents and providers of daycare and early childhood education. SA staff pursue outside guidance as needed to develop a national campaign Initiate National Marketing Campaign More effectively use social media to prove value Increase membership and improve retention SA staff will review current strategies and if necessary seek out outside assistance to improve use of social media to create membership value. Investigate alternative membership options including but not limited to free or reduced costs options to increase Increase membership by 5000 annually

5 membership size. Develop database of America s HPE teachers. Effectively partner with districts and state affiliates to pursue 50Ms and to identify and champion HPE teachers in their geographical locations SA staff will challenge districts to develop and submit supporting plans to promote 50MS and set specific goals to illustrate progress SA staff will partner with selected state affiliates to identify 50MS success stories (using strategies similar to those under Target #1) SA will focus on becoming the go to source to help teachers succeed with 50MS. Recognize that the primary value of SA is service to HPE teachers. SA staff will develop joint membership opportunities with selected state affiliates Identify/train/prepare SA staff to become the experts on guiding development of 50MS schools and overcoming challenges Achieving 50MS will guide the organizational structure, activities, and communications of SA.

6 Improve access to SA 50MS experts so that HPE teachers have guides on the side always ready to help and give knowledgeable support. SA staff will focus on solutions to achieve 50MS and not fear outside organizations creating products and programs because SA staff can guide HPE teachers on which solutions are best for their situation. SA staff will develop refocus of web site, journals, and all communications founded upon the single organizational focus on 50MS. Strong workgroup creates a plan to engage each of the physical activity promoting organizations in supporting 50 MS
