2 Web Content Editor Marketing, Corporate Services Do you have experience of writing clear and concise content for websites? Do you want to use your knowledge and experience to successfully support and shape the development of and refinements for the University s corporate and faculty websites? Are you organised with strong proof-reading and communication skills? The University s corporate and faculty websites are the Leeds digital shop window providing a key communications channel with prospective students, staff, research partners and other external audiences. As the Web Content Editor you will write clear and concise web content, including structuring, editing and tailoring content for differing audience needs and to maximise copy for the Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) advantage. You will build effective relationships with key stakeholders to ensure the site reflects the needs of student recruitment, education, research and corporate communications and carryout line management duties. You will have an understanding of website analytics, enabling you to develop and monitor the impact of user interaction with content, as well as supporting and shaping the development and refinements for the sites. You will regularly review site analytics, taking on board market insights to inform editorial decisions. You will have strong proof reading skills and be comfortable making editorial decisions on content structure and priorities. You will also be able to work independently, manage priorities and meet demanding deadlines.

3 What does the role entail? As a Web Content Editor your main duties will include: Responsibility for ensuring website copy for the University websites is delivered accurately and meets user requirements; Developing a thorough understanding of the audiences of the websites and ensuring content for the updated website targets these audiences effectively, working with internal stakeholders to agree the structure and content of the site; Researching and writing clear and articulate web copy for audiences including prospective students and other external audiences working within the guidelines on writing, editing and publishing web content; Planning, structuring and editing existing web copy within the content management system (Jadu); Building effective relationships with key stakeholders to ensure the site reflects the needs of student recruitment, education research and corporate communications; Regularly reviewing site analytics, looking at the detail of how content is used and taking on board market insights to inform editorial decisions; Using digital good practice, market insight and analytics to propose developments for the websites and ensuring they continue to meet the expectations of users and needs of the University; Being aware of both the internal and external environment the University operates, ensuring content is written mindful of these challenges; Carrying out line management duties for the Web Writer including, providing coaching, training and support for their longer term development. These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post.

4 What will you bring to the role? As a Web Content Editor you will have: Excellent written and oral communication skills, specifically in writing and editing for the web, simplifying complex information and communicating to different audiences; Excellent editorial skills including expertise in structuring copy and content for the web and in taking editorial decisions on content priorities; An understanding of web analytics and how to optimise content for search; The ability to manage and guide others; Excellent attention to detail and proof reading skills; Experience in writing for a number of different genres e.g. cases studies, news articles, briefing sheets, marketing copy and process explanations; Excellent organisational skills with an ability to prioritise and plan your work independently to meet demanding deadlines as well as be able to work effectively as part of a team; Evidence of supporting and working effectively with senior colleagues including the ability to negotiate and influence colleagues to ensure compliance and consistency, showing diplomacy and sensitivity. You may also have: Technical knowledge of web production and content management; Experience of content management software, particularly Jadu; Experience of working in a large, complex organisation and understanding the communication challenges this brings; Continued professional development in copy writing, writing or journalism.
