6 Secure. App is protected by Stanford s Shibboleth Authentication, and our app session code ensures that the same ID card can't be active multiple devices at once. UserDefaultsKey.currentPerson.rawValue HTTPCookieStorage.shared.cookies

7 Convenient After authentication, the ID card screen looks nearly identical to its physical counterpart. Go-pass grid renders any passes that have been provisioned for the active ID card profile. Coming Soon: a recent payments tab to view ID card payment history; Stanford ID cards integrate with Cardinal Dollars. We re following the Apple Wallet and Passbook model.

9 What are go-passes? Stickers that adhere to the back of physical ID cards. Caltrain distributes go-pass stickers to Stanford employees just present your card to the train attendant. We ve included go-passes in StanfordMe, and given vendors more options with which to configure their passes. Passes are animated SVGs, and can only be provisioned by the vendor directly.

11 Firebase Notifications Notifications are an important part of the StanfordMe experience, and we ve developed a notifications server that handles multiple types. We use our own server to make requests to the Firebase, which returns and propagates a notification.

12 The Anatomy of a Notification First, we register the phone s notification token. Our server is engineered to associate device tokens with Stanford accounts. Then, we send our list of device tokens and a message to Firebase, which handles sending the notification. StanfordMe also supports topic-based or channel notifications.

17 What s next for StanfordMe? - React Native One codebase, two platforms (ios and Android). Supports native code modules too. Compiles into native binary, so there s no performance decrease when using React Native. We re shipping in React Native in the Fall.

23 Concluding Thoughts We ve created an ecosystem of microservices for StanfordMe that you can implement as well, independently or at your institution: 1. A Firebase Notification Server & API in Laravel. 2. A shibboleth-protected web view that brings authenticated data into the app. 3. A go-pass API. 4. An HID and Bluetooth API & Hardware Integration. 5. Emergency Services API. 6. An data layer that uses the same personal data to support multiple features. 7. A device registration API for keeping track of device tokens and device types.
