2 Automated Disturbance/Fault Record Collection, Monitoring & Analysis - Use Cases DR Collection Retrieve disturbance data from multiple vendor IEDs using a single / integrated retrieval system. Common Configuration I/F - for all IED Tools Data Conversion & File format support Convert the vendor DR format to COMTRADE. 5 SYNC S/S Capabilities At the substation, terminal servers and communication gateways are configured to connect to the IED's over serial or network protocols. The terminal servers provide network access to the serial ports. The gateways provide protocol driver support to retrieve the data from the IED's The gateways are configured to poll the IED's at frequent intervals or on demand from the central system. The gateways and terminal servers also collect diagnostic information from the devices and IED's including availability of the IED's, the link status, the disturbance collection errors if any etc., The gateway also provide for conversion of proprietary data to COMTRADE format whereever possible to be done in the gateway environment. The processed data is then transmitted to the Central System. If redundancy is required, the network at the S/S is configured for the same. Security is provided by VPN between the gateway at the S/S and the central system

11 Configuration Management Configuration (parametrisation and protection configuration) of substaion IEDs from the central location Software supports multiple versions of the configuration tools of various vendor relays so that the same can be easily managed from the central system. Software has a database for storing the latest configuration files which are automatically uploaded from the specific relay. Supports version management of configuration files of IED's It also has a DR viewer and analysis system associated with the same which uses the COMTRADE files retrieved from the SYNC3000 and stored in the central DB.

16 EDP & REN - Portugal Pilots done in REN & EDP Portugal's transmission and Distribution network EDP Pilot involved SYNC2000 communication with SPA, Courier, IEC61850 and GE Modbus relays and transferring the same to central system over GPRS. Loop impedance calculations for EDP Loop impedance is calculated in SYNC3000 from COMTRADE files and values are transferred to central NMS System. By correlating this loop impedance with the network topology, fault is located. 17 PGCIL, NTAMC - INDIA National Transmission Asset Management Center (NTAMC) under PGCIL PGCIL, one of the largest transmission utility company in the world, with more than 95,000km Transmission network, set up a Remote Access and Automatic Fault Analysis System from each of its substation spread across an area of 2.5Mn sq.kms. The main functionalities of the system will include the automatic remote collection of the Disturbance Recording (DR) files, as well as Event Logs (EL) from the various devices / IEDs in the substations, and subsequent download to a central National Transmission Management Center, through five Regional Asset Management Centers spread across the country. The Utility will be able to remotely view, configure devices, collect disturbance and event data hence, making it possible for the substations to be un-manned and operated / maintained remotely. The project involves around 200EHV substations, and more than 3000 relays / IEDs involving around 60 different relay models, and is the largest such asset monitoring project executed in the country's transmission network and is the largest such asset monitoring project executed in the country's transmission network.
