If the user does not require these new features and enhancements, no upgrading of the switch is required. G Multilin 1

2 MultiLink release notes Release details In the following enhancement descriptions, a revision category letter is placed to the left of the description. Refer to the Appendix at the end of this document for a description of the categories displayed. ML2400 nhancement Increased number of ports available on the ML2400 Applicable: ML2400 The ML2400 was enhanced to support an increased number of ports. Slot D of the ML2400 that previously only supported a single Gigabit module, can now support any of the 10Mbps or 100Mbps modules that are available in slots A, B, or C. Additionally, all of the slots on the ML2400 can now support up to two Gigabit ports or one Gigabit port and other 10Mbps or 100Mbps ports on the same module. 3 MultiLink revision release notes etwork Management nhancements IPv6 support allowing for more addressable devices in a network The MultiLink switches now support IPv6 on top of the IPv4 that was previously supported. IPv6 now allows for more devices in a network to be addressed, and is compatible with IPv6 TCP/IP protocols. Device Serial umber available through CLI command prompt The MultiLink switches have been enhanced to provide the ability of accessing the device s serial numbers when using the command prompt. Using the Show Setup command, users can identify the serial number of the switch that they are communicating to. ase of Use nhancements Automatically disabling LLA (Link Loss Alert) for 100Mbps port if Ring-only fast recovery mode is selected The Link Loss Alert (LLA) feature is intended for communicating to end devices, such as a protective relay, that allows for recovering from a single broken transmit fiber from the device. The Ring-Only mode feature that provides recovery of ring architecture networks faster than industry standard protocols can achieve, will only be enabled on ports that are connected to other switches as a part of this ring. Since ports being used with the Ring-Only Mode feature will not be connected to an end device, the LLA feature will now automatically be turned OFF when Ring-Only Mode is enabled on that port. LLA Link Loss Alert disabled by default of the 100Mbit ports The LLA (Link Loss Alert) feature has had its default settings changed to Disabled for the 100Mbps fiber optic thernet ports. For the 10Mbps fiber optic thernet ports, the default settings for Link Loss Alert remain at nabled. Modbus nabled by default The Modbus protocol that allows integration of information from Multilink thernet devices into HMI and SCADA systems has been nabled by default in the switch. This will allow users to easily retrieve information from the device using the Modbus protocol without having to first configure the unit. G Multilin 3

4 MultiLink release notes Platform nhancements RSTP value of edge, p2p settings changing to default on reboot The RSTP feature has been enhanced to ensure that the p2p remains to the value configured by the user. In the previous version, this setting would occasionally revert to it s default setting of auto when the switch was rebooted. QoS queue value going to default in presence of broadcast The QoS Quality of Service feature was enhanced to ensure the priority setting configured for a specific port remains as set by the user. In the previous version of the firmware, the switch would change the priority setting configured by the user back to the default priority of 0 when broadcast traffic was sent through that particular port. DHCP/BootP causing the switch to lock up in the case of a loss of the DHCP server The MultiLink switch was enhanced to cause the switch to stop sending a DHCP/BootP query if it has not received a response from a DHCP server in the last 30 minutes. In the previous version of the firmware, upon the loss of the DHCP server, the switch would continuously send a DCHP query and eventually lock up. 4 G Multilin
