4 Introduction This is the Pharos imfp for Canon Installation Guide. This guide will give you step-by-step instructions for installing and uninstalling Pharos client on your Canon imagerunner Advance Multi Function Peripheral (MFP). It is important that you first read and follow the instructions outlined in the Pharos imfp for Canon Device Configuration Guide (included in the same package along with this document). Once you have correctly configured the MFPs, you can use this document to guide you through the Pharos client installation and configuration process. 4

5 Supported Devices Pharos client version no longer supports so-called imagerunner Legacy devices. Please refer to the Pharos imfp for Canon Supported Devices document for the list of supported devices in this release. Visit for the most up-to-date list of supported devices for this and previous releases. 5

6 Requirements Pharos Server Pharos Uniprint 7.2, 8.1, 8.2, or 8.3 Blueprint 4.1, 4.2, or 5.0 Pharos MEAP Applications Pharos imfp Login Service version Pharos imfp MEAP Application version

7 Pharos Server Configuration Uniprint A working Pharos Uniprint system must be present before setting up integration with Canon MFPs. Pharos Solution Suite 7.2 or later is required. The following system components must be set up: At least one Print Server, with a spool queue is set up. The Pharos Server set to use the appropriate Print Server. If you want to use SSL to encrypt communications to and from the EDI, it should also be set up. The Pharos Bank(s) used for authentication and charging. The Job Cost Method used to calculate the cost of copy and print jobs. A Charging Model, if Third Party Charging is being used. UFRII/PCL/PS driver(s) for the MFP. Blueprint Pharos Blueprint Enterprise 4.1 or later is required. The following system components must be set up: The Blueprint Analyst must be installed. All Blueprint Collectors must be installed and registered with the Analyst. All servers must be configured to use SSL. You must be licensed to use the Secure Release Here system in Blueprint. UFRII/PCL/PS driver(s) for the MFP. For both Uniprint and Blueprint, a Pharos Terminal must be created for each MFP. See the Pharos Help system at or the respective documentation for Uniprint and Blueprint for information on setting up terminals. Important note regarding Postscript printer drivers imagerunner Advance MFPs do not come with the ability to render Postscript documents. An additional license purchase from Canon is required for imagerunner Advance MFPs to render Postscript. Ensure that the capabilities of the MFP are understood before installing and using printer drivers on Pharos Servers. 7

8 Installation You are now ready to install the Pharos client on Canon MFPs. The Pharos client is installed on the device using the device s built-in web server so a web browser is required. The device must already be configured on the network and have an IP address. The Pharos imfp for Canon solution consists of four files. 1. Pharos imfp Login Service.jar 2. Pharos imfp Login Service License.lic 3. Pharos imfp MEAP Applet.jar 4. Pharos imfp MEAP Applet License.lic The installation process is done in four steps. This must be repeated for each MFP. 1. Install the Pharos imfp Login Service 2. Install the Pharos imfp MEAP Application. 3. Reboot the MFP. 4. Configure the MFP. Follow the instructions below and refer to Appendix B if you encounter any problems. 8

9 Installing the Pharos imfp Login Service 1. Browse to the System Management Service web page at 9

10 2. Login to the System Management Service using the password MeapSmsLogin. This is a case sensitive password. 10

12 4. Follow the Enhanced System Application Management Link on the left of the page. 12

14 6. In the Install Enhanced System Application/License section use the Browse buttons to locate and select the Pharos imfp Login Service jar and Pharos imfp Login Service license files. 14

17 9. Confirm the application installation by clicking Yes when prompted. 17

18 10. The UI is returned to the Enhanced System Application Management page. 18

21 13. The status of Pharos Login Application will change to Start after Restart. Do not reboot the engine at this time. Continue installing the Pharos imfp MEAP Application. 21

22 Installing the Pharos imfp MEAP Application 1. Follow the Install MEAP Application link at the top left of the page. 22

23 2. In the Install Application/License section use the Browse buttons to locate and select the Pharos imfp MEAPApplet jar and Pharos imfp MEAP Applet license files. 23

25 2. Confirm the application installation by clicking Yes when prompted. 25

26 3. Wait for the application to install 26

27 4. After the application is installed, navigate back to the MEAP Application Management page. 27

28 5. The status of Pharos Print Copy and Billing (the display name of the Pharos imfp MEAP Applet) is Installed. 28

30 7. The status of Pharos Print Copy and Billing will change to Started. 30

31 8. Follow the Log Out from SMS link at the top right of the page. 31

32 Reboot the device 1. Power off the MFP. a. Using the toggle switch on the front right of the MFP, power off the device. b. A window will be presented indicating shutdown is in progress. c. Wait until the MFP powers off. 2. Power on the MFP 32

33 Terminal Configuration MFPs running Pharos software are considered terminals from the Pharos server point of view and have a one-to-one relationship with a terminal instance on the Pharos server. Terminal instances must be setup on the Pharos server prior to configuring the software on the MFP. The software is configured using the device s built-in web server so a web browser is required to perform the configuration. 1. Browse to This is a case-sensitive URL. 33

34 2. When prompted, login to the configuration page using pharos as the username and password. 34

35 3. The Pharos Configuration page is shown with default settings. 35

36 4. Enter the information relating to your Pharos Server (the server you installed Uniprint/Blueprint on). a. Server Address: this is the IP address or fully qualified domain name of the Pharos server. b. Password: this is the password configured for Pharos Uniprint/Blueprint. This was defined when the Uniprint or Blueprint server was installed. c. Terminal Name: this is the name of the corresponding Pharos Terminal configured in Pharos Administrator. d. HTTP Port: this is the port over which unencrypted HTTP traffic will flow. e. HTTPS Port: this is the port over which encrypted HTTP traffic will flow. 5. Set the Enable Logging entry to yes. 6. Set the Encryption Options a. For Uniprint installations, SSL is optional but recommended. If a certificate has not been installed on the Uniprint server do not use SSL until the certificate is installed. b. For Blueprint installations, SSL is required. Set the encryption options to always use SSL. 7. Click Test Connection. 8. The connection status should change to Test Succeeded. Connection Established. If it does not, refer to Appendix B for troubleshooting. 36

37 Uninstalling Pharos Client Removing Pharos client from an MFP is basically the opposite of the installation. The uninstall process requires a reboot to stop the Pharos Login Service. 1. Browse to the System Management Service web page at 37

38 2. Login to the System Management Service using the password MeapSmsLogin. This is a case sensitive password. 38

40 4. Press the Stop button for the Pharos Print Copy and Billing applet. 40

68 Appendix A: Configuration Options Server Configuration Server Address Password Enter the IP address for fully qualified domain name of the server that is hosting Uniprint or Blueprint. An IP address is of the form A FQDN is of the form uniprint.campus.edu or blueprint.domain.local. See your network administrator for additional help setting this parameter. Terminal Name HTTP Port HTTPS Port This is the EDI Server Password. See the Pharos Server documentation for details. The terminal name is the name given to a terminal instance created in Uniprint or Blueprint. Each Canon MFP will be associated with a single terminal instance. This is the port over which unencrypted HTTP traffic will flow. Generally this will not need to be changed but some sites prefer to have Pharos traffic to/from the MFPs on a separate port. This is the port over which encrypted HTTP traffic will flow. Generally this will not need to be changed but some sites prefer to have Pharos traffic to/from the MFPs on a separate port. Logging Logging options allow the administrator to control if logging is enabled and where to send the output. Enable Logging Log output Yes Causes the Pharos client to collect logging. No Causes the Pharos client to not collect logging. Console Sends logging output to the remote console Java applet. Generally only Pharos Professional Services will use this setting. Local File Sends logging output to a file hosted on the imfp. The maximum file size is 1 MB. 68

69 Syslog Sends logging output to a syslog server at the defined host address. Threshold All Collects all logging levels. Debug Collects all logging levels. Info Collects all INFO level output. This is less verbose than Debug and All. Warn Collects all WARN level output. This is less verbose than INFO. Error Collects all ERROR level output. This is less verbose than WARN. Fatal Collects all FATAL level output. This is less verbose than ERROR. Encryption Options Unencrypted All communications with the Pharos Server are in clear text. That is, no attempt to obfuscate the communications is made. This is an insecure configuration and usernames and passwords are visible in network traffic. Encrypted If Available All communications with the Pharos Server are first attempted using SSL. If an SSL connection can t be made the communication is attempted without SSL. This configuration is helpful at Uniprint sites after initial installation while the administrator is configuring SSL. It allows for the server to be configured using SSL but won t prevent users from logging in if there is a problem with the certificate or the configuration. The price for this convenience is all calls to the server are made twice. Remember to visit this setting again after SSL has been successfully configured on the server. Encrypted Always All communications with the Pharos Server are encrypted. A valid certificate must be installed on the Pharos server. See the Pharos Server documentation for details. 69
