MultiPath : Linux Kernel Implementation Presenter: Christoph Paasch IP Networking Lab Université catholique de Louvain February 3, Presenter: Christoph Paasch - IP Networking Lab 1 / 15

Current situation Mobile devices can connect to the Internet via different interfaces 3G Internet WiFi Data-centers have a large redundant infrastructure Dual-Homed Servers Presenter: Christoph Paasch - IP Networking Lab 2 / 15

Current situation is used for 95% of the Internet communications identifies connections by the 5-tuple regular IP: IP: Port: Port: 80 Presenter: Christoph Paasch - IP Networking Lab 3 / 15

Current situation is used for 95% of the Internet communications identifies connections by the 5-tuple regular IP: IP: Port: Port: 80 A single connection cannot be used across different interfaces. Presenter: Christoph Paasch - IP Networking Lab 3 / 15

Current situation Mobile devices should connect to the Internet by using all their interfaces interfaces 3G Internet WiFi Data-centers should use their redundant infrastructure in the most efficient way Dual-Homed Servers Presenter: Christoph Paasch - IP Networking Lab 4 / 15

MultiPath MultiPath (short MP) MP allows a single data-connection to use several interfaces simultaneously. Allows failover from one interface to another (e.g., mobile client). Increases the bandwidth due to resource pooling. Better load-balancing due to fair coupled congestion control. 3G Internet WiFi Dual-Homed Servers Presenter: Christoph Paasch - IP Networking Lab 5 / 15

Linux Kernel MultiPath Linux Kernel MP About lines of code in the Linux Kernel Lots of performance evaluation in different research-papers. Live-Demo of MP at the end of this presentation. Implementation freely available at Presenter: Christoph Paasch - IP Networking Lab 6 / 15
