2 Topology Stitching NetBrain automatically calculates and builds the basic Layer 2 and Layer 3 topology by parsing the device configuration files after discovering devices from live network. However, in some cases the basic topology may not be accurate, for example, the network with duplicated IP configured. To improve the accuracy and scalability, NetBrain provides the following two ways to build Extended Topology based on the basic topology. Built-in Functions (static) - applicable to a few of topology stitches. Topology Procedures (dynamic) - applicable to a large amount of topology stitches. Stitching Topology by Built-in Functions 1. Click Workspace > Manager in the ribbon toolbar. The Workspace Manager opens. 2. Click Topology Stitching in the left pane. The extended topology items are listed in the right table. 3. Add a static function. 1) Click Add to open the Add Topology Stitching window. 2) Select a function from the Function list and specify the arguments according to the sample format. Click OK. Functions AddDevice(Device Name, Device Type) Add a new device to the extended topology. Two arguments need to be Device Name - the hostname of a device. 2

3 Functions Device Type the device type of the device. Enter the ID of the device type, rather the name. See Device type for more details regarding all the devices types supported in NetBrain and the corresponding IDs. AddDMVPN(DMVPN Name, Subnet) Add a new DMVPN cloud. Two arguments need to be DMVPN Name - the name of the DMVPN cloud. Subnet - the subnet address of the DMVPN cloud, for example, /24. AddInterface(Device Name, Interface Name, IP List Add a Layer 3 interface to one specified device. Three arguments need to be Device Name - the hostname of a device in the current workspace or is added via a function. Interface Name - the interface name. IP List - the IP address of the interface, for example /24. It is an optional argument. You can also specify more than one IP addresses for the interface. AddIPtoInterface(Device Name, Interface Name, IP) Add an IP address to an interface of the device. Three arguments need to be Device Name - the hostname of a device in the current workspace or is added via a function. Interface Name - the interface name. IP - the IP address of the interface. AddLAN (LAN Name, Subnet) Add a LAN segment. Two arguments need to be LAN Name - the name of the LAN segment. Subnet - the subnet address of the LAN. AddLink (Source Device, Source Interface, Source IP, Destination Device, Destination Interface, Destination IP, Link Type) Add a link between two interfaces. Seven arguments need to be Source Device - the hostname of the source device. Source Interface - the interface name of the source device. 3

4 Functions Source IP - the interface IP address of the source device. Destination Device - the hostname of the destination device. Destination Interface - the interface name of the destination device. Destination IP - the interface IP address of the destination device. Link Type - the type of the link. Three link types are supported: 1-Serial, 2-VPN, 3-Standby. AddWAN (WAN Name, Subnet) Add a WAN cloud. Two arguments need to be WAN Name - the name of the WAN segment. Subnet - the subnet address of the WAN cloud. DisableInterface(Device Name, Interface Name) Disable an interface of a device in the workspace. Two arguments need be Device Name - the hostname of the device. Interface Name - the interface name of the device. Note: If one interface is disabled, all the links connected by this interface are disabled. EnableInterface(Device Name, Interface Name) Enable an interface of a device in the workspace. Two arguments need be Device Name - the hostname of the device. Interface Name - the interface name of the device. RemoveL2OneIpTableLink(IP, MAC, Switch Remove a entry from the One-IP table. Three arguments need be Port)) IP - the IP address of the interface. MAC - the MAC address name of the device. Switch Port - the switch port that the interface connects to. RemoveL2SwitchConnectivityLink (Source Device, Source Port, Destination Device, Destination Port) Remove a entry from the Switch Connectivity table. Four arguments need be Source Device - the hostname of the source device. Source Port - the interface name of the switch. 4

5 Functions Destination Device - the hostname of destination device. Destination Port - the interface name of the destination device. RemoveLink(Source Device, Source Interface, Source IP, Destination Device, Destination Interface, Destination IP, Link Type) Remove a link between two interfaces. Seven arguments need to be Source Device - the hostname of the source device. Source Interface - the interface name of the source device. Source IP - the interface IP address of the source device. Destination Device - the hostname of the destination device. Destination Interface - the interface name of the destination device. Destination IP - the interface IP address of the destination device. Link Type - the type of the link. Three link types are supported: 1 represents Serial, 2 represents VPN, 3 represents Standby. Note: If an arguments is optional, you must leave a placeholder to ensure the grammatical accuracy. 3) Click Rebuild Topology to regenerate the topology by merging the basic topology and extended topology. Stitching Topology by Topology Procedures 1. Select Qapp > System Procedure from the ribbon toolbar to open the System Procedure Manager. 5

6 2. Expand Topology Procedure > Built-in in the left pane and select the target category. You can find the procedure description, file location and a sample map. Note: The built-in topology procedures are not intended to be modified. Any modifications will be overwritten once the Workstation is upgraded. 3. Right-click Topology Procedure in the left pane and select Run Topology Procedures from the drop-down menu. A prompt will pop up to confirm with you that running the procedures will overwrite the previous result of the dynamic topology. Click Yes to continue. 4. Select the target procedures and click OK. The Procedure Task window prompts. Here is a sample snapshot. 5. Click Select Seed Device to select specific devices to run the procedure based on your needs. By default, the procedure will be executed on all the devices in the workspace. 6. Click Run Procedures. The procedure will start to run. Click OK when a dialog box prompts to notify you that the execution of the procedure is completed. 7. Click Yes to rebuild the topology when a confirmation dialog box prompts. Then you can check out the newly extended topology on the map. 6
