2 Launch NetBrain Workstation NetBrain Instant Trial server Port Get the license and link to download software class.netbraintech.com 80 ntech.com/netbrain_ite _setup.zip 1. Enter username and password 2. Select a workspace If you don t have a username and password, go to /trial/class.php to create an account. Alternately, use our guest credentials: Username: netbrain123 Password: netbrain123 Select NetBrain-New ITE Lab (Shared) option 2

3 Create L3 Qmap around a Device Qmap and Search for a hostname or IP address of a problematic device Extend L3 neighbors Zoom in to view the design details and observe all properties of a device Troubleshoot a problematic router BGP neighbors are down 1. Search the device 2. Map the search result 3. View the neighbors 4. Draw the neighbors 5. Draw the neighbor(s) of the neighbor(s) Enter the hostname (Bos-Core-6500) in the Visual Search field and click the Search key. Hover under the device in the search results and click the Map link at the bottom. Click on the red plus sign to open the neighbor window. Double click on All Neighbors or one specific neighbor to draw the neighbor(s) on the Qmap. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for more neighbors until all neighbor devices you are interested in are drawn on the Qmap.

4 View and Annotate Design Details Zoom in on the Qmap to view details Browse and annotate the design Create a design Qmap for routing, multicasting, et cetera 1. Zoom into the Qmap 2. View the configurations of a network object 3. Annotate a network design Scroll your mousewheel forward to zoom in, backward to zoom out. (Press F2 to customize view options) Hover over a network object such as interface, routing protocol, ACL or multicasting mode. Note: NetBrain may not be able to read configurations for some vendor/models, such as CheckPoint FW. Click on the Display on the Current Map icon ( ) in the tip window. 4

5 Observe Device Details Observe a device s properties, topology, design and performance via Observer Mode 1. Zoom into Sjc-Core-3560x Observe device details 3. Perform action on the device Continue to zoom in until the device is targeted in the green brackets at 280% zoom. Scroll the mousewheel forward (to 300%) to bring up Observer Mode. Scroll up and down to flip through the deck of cards. Interact with the Observer Mode cards to perform actions (e.g. change analysis, launch live device monitoring, etc.). 5

6 Qmap L2 Connection for an IP Zoom in to view L2 design and observe the switches properties Create a Qmap of data center from a switch group (directly connected switches) Qmap a specific LAN segment (i.e. subnet) 1. Search for the device 2. Qmap the search result 3. View the neighbors 4. Draw the neighbors 5. Draw the neighbor(s) of the neighbor(s) Enter the IP address ( ) in the Visual Search field and press the Search key. Hover under the device ( ) in the search results. Select L2 Neighbor. Click the Map link at the bottom. Click on the red plus sign on the device icon to open the neighbor window. Double click on All Neighbors or one specific neighbor to draw the neighbor(s) on the Qmap. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for more neighbors until all neighbor devices you are interested in are drawn on the Qmap.

7 Telnet/SSH to a Switch Find the switch port connected to an IP address and map out the connection Block the traffic from a virus-infected server 1. Search an IP address Enter the IP address ( ) in the Visual Search field and press the Enter key. 2. Create an L2 Qmap from the search results 3. Draw neighboring switches 4. Telnet to a network device Hover over a device in the search results pane and click the Map link. Click on L2 Neighbor. Click the Map link. Click on the red plus sign of a switch to extend its neighbors. Right click the blank space of the map and select Auto Layout in the Contextual Menu. In the Layout Settings Dialog, select core and distribution devices. Click on the switch. From the Floating Menu, select CLI Telnet/SSH CLI

8 Qmap an Application Path Discover and map the application path (L3 and L2) between two end points Troubleshoot a slow application Document critical applications 1. Enter source and destination IP addresses 2. Select the path direction 3. Select the discovery option 4. Discover and Qmap the path 5. View how the path was discovered On the Ribbon s Home tab, enter IP addresses in Field A ( ) and B ( ). Click the arrow icon (from A to B) to select the path direction. Click on the traffic path options icon. Select an option: Via Live Network (live path) or Via Cache Data in Data Folder (historical path). Click on the Path button. Click the Execution Log, Device Log and Traffic State tabs in the Data Pane to understand how the system discover the path.

View port configuration along the path Click an L3 path curve and select View L2 Path from the Floating Menu. A new L2 Qmap (Qmap2) will be created for the L2 path. Hover over a switch port and view its configuration in the tip window.

10 Probe the Live Network Visualize the high utilization and traffic overload across an IPsec tunnel Identify a down/unstable device or interface Identify any interfaces with high bandwidth, high CPU or memory usage 1. Run Qapp Monitor Click on the Monitor Overall Health Monitor in the Floating Menu. In the Instant Monitor window, keep the default or customize monitor profile (Overall Health Monitor), then click the Run button. 2. Turn off monitoring Click Clear to turn off monitoring and Stop to pause. Note: If the interface delay or bandwidth usage is not visible, you can zoom in on the Qmap or drag the link longer to make it visible. To change monitor settings such as frequency and threshold, click Advanced option in Instant Monitor window. 10

11 Monitor Live Network via Qapp Monitor interface errors on an L3 Qmap Identify any interfaces with input, CRC, collisions or switching errors 1. Run Monitor Qapps In the Floating Menu, select Monitor Monitor Qapps. 2. Select Monitor Qapps to run In the Run Monitor window, check the boxes at the left of Qapps you want to run. Then click the Next button. 3. Define the Frequency and Threshold At the Run Monitor window, click the ellipsis ( ) link after frequency to change the frequency. Click the Threshold link at the bottom to change the threshold value for the alerts. Click the Run button to run the monitor Qapps. 11

12 Define Network Access Credentials Enter the network settings that allow NetBrain to discover and access your network devices 1. View non-privilege login 2. Add usernames and passwords 3. Add other settings Click the Login CLI non-privilege Mode tag. Click the Add button. Enter the corresponding values. Alias can be any unique name, and is for your reference only. Repeat this step to add all necessary Telnet/SSH non-privilege credentials. Click the other tags to add Privilege credentials and SNMP RO community string. If your Workstation cannot access the live network directly, you also need to add a Jumpbox or Network Server. Note: Defining credentials is not permitted in the ITE environment! Please use your own EE environment. 12

13 Run Live Network Discovery Discover your Live Network from seed device(s) 1. Select the live access method 2. Define Discovery options 3. Define the seed devices 4. Start discovery Click Telnet and SNMP and select how the system should access your live network from the dropdown menu. If you are not sure, select Telnet/SSH and SNMP. Click the Options button. Set the Discovery Depth in the Options Of Discovery window. Enter the IP address of a seed router. You can also select devices from the current workspace as seed devices. Click the Start Discovery button. You can select any device to view its log. Note: Network Discovery is not permitted in the ITE environment! Please use your own EE environment. 13
