1 WiFi Center s Trouble shooting This document intends to: Show different network setups and their strength and weaknesses Explain how to solve common problems Preferable this document should be read in combination with the User manual.

2 First What do you need? Besides the WiFi Center itself you need: An WiFi router. An iphone with the Vestamatic App installed.

3 Secondly What is AdHoc? When you set up the network the first time you use something called AdHoc. This means that your iphone talk to the WiFi center directly (without going through a WiFi Router). All functions works perfectly on the iphone, BUT: Range may be limited You can NOT access internet from your iphone The WiFi center is open for anyone Therefore you should ALWAYS make sure that the WiFi Center is connected to the router during installation. This is clearly explained in the use manual. Information to technical geeks Our HW sends UDP-multicast on port 44445/UDP iphone to HW packets sent on port 80/TCP.

4 Special note regarding WiFi channels

5 WiFi channels In some rare occasions there may be many WiFi networks available in a small area. If many networks use the same channel, this may limit the range of the network and even make it impossible to connect at all. If this is the case you will probably notice this already in AdHoc mode. Solution: On the WiFi center you can change the used default channel (11) for WiFi Center to either channel 1 or 6. This is done via the DIP switch with 4 switches on the main board of the WiFi center. Do as following: Turn off the WiFi center (cut the power) and open the box To select channel 1, set DIP switch: Dip 1 = off, Dip 2 = on To select channel 6, set DIP switch: Dip 1 = on, Dip 2 = off To select channel 11, set DIP switch: Dip 1 = off, Dip 2 = off (this is default) Close the box and turn on the power and start a new setup (see user manual) See also topic Special cases (1) for linked information

7 The perfect setup for the end user In normal home-networks all devices are connected to the same network, and all communication is un-restricted. PERFECT environment for the WiFi Center and also the reality in almost all cases Router data (example) LAN IP: SSID: mynet KEY: secret WiFi Center

10 The perfect setup at demonstrations and show rooms As most companies, show rooms and hotels have high network security and probably aren t to fond of giving you network access - you SHOULD use a dedicated router (bring your own) for the WiFi center for demonstration purposes. This will ensure that the system always works perfectly. You can of cause make the mobile demonstration in AdHoc mode, then you do not need a router at all. 11 If you have access to the company network If they allow you to access the company network (meaning giving you the password) you could simply connect as the picture describes. This is identical as installing it at the end user. BUT! - Keep in mind that most people has no idea how their router is configured. Therefore this might not work as e.g. AP-isolation or other security features are enabled in the router. Using a dedicated router (bring your own) is therefore always preferred in these uncertain cases. Router data (example) LAN IP: SSID: mynet KEY: secret WiFi Center

13 Setup in dedicated show rooms By far the best solution is to use a dedicated router for the WiFi center. This is probably also the solution the IT responsible would prefer as it does not impact the company network security. If AP-isolation (access point isolation) is turned ON on the company router, they have to create a new WiFi network for the dedicated router. 16 Special cases (1) Chan11 Chan11 Chan11 Chan11 Problem: Office building with 20 WiFi networks, where many use the same Channel. Network performance is poor and UDP-packets are lost. Download and verify with inssider at: Solution 1 Configure your WiFi router to use another channel! This will improve stability a lot! 18 Special cases(3) Using an access point and switch Network with older modems doesn t have builtin WiFi support. A separate Access-Point is installed to handle WiFi. An extra Network-Switch is also added in between. UDP-PACKETS might be lost (E.g.
