4 OVERVIEW 1.1PRODUCT DESCRIPTION This product is the most simple and efficient IP Camera product for remote monitoring/ administrating. The installation is very easy. With the build-in Web server, you can use web page browser (e.g., Microsoft IE) and input the IP-Cam camera's IP address to execute remote image monitoring and administration through either local or broadband network directly any time any place. You can also remotely control the motor in the camera to change the monitor direction/ angle to quickly grasp the real-time image of the monitored location. Wireless transmission capability is also provided for setting up through wireless network and avoiding damages to the environment from the wiring. In addition, many network protocols are supported, such as PPPoE, DHCP, STATIC IP, DDNS, SMTP, FTP, and NTP. Moreover, IR LED lightening illumination is also included to strengthen the night vision capability. 6 1.6 EXTERIOR FUNCTION INTRODUCE IR LED X 6 Focus Adjustable Antenna Status Light DC JACK RJ-45 JACK Usage of Reset Switch: During system normal operation, press and hold the Reset Switch for a short time (approximately 8 seconds) until the front Status Light goes out, the system will restart and return to the factory default settings. Power On description: After inserting the included 5V/ 1.5A Switching Power adaptor into power outlet, you have to wait for 40 seconds of power on time for IP Cam to confirm its software/hardware are normal. 7 UTILITIES AND TOOLS 2.1 IPCamFinder IPCamFinder is the IP search application provided by this product. It can search all the IP CAMs connected in LAN. Through sending out the inquiry of broadcasting packets and receiving responses from IP CAMs, the window will display a list of all IP CAMs in the network. Furthermore, it also provides modify functions for changing specified IP CAM's network settings, e.g. IP Address change function. IPCamFinder tools in detail (1): IP CAM List Display PC's Ethernet network card Renew List MAC address IP address Subnet Mask Default Gateway PPPoE Setting Choose the way to get IP Wireless mode setting Show IP CAM Figure 1 Renew executed to obtain an IP 2.2 USE IP-CAM AND TEST THE IMAGE FUNCTION FOR THE FIRST TIME The following connection is suitable for IP-CAM test/fixed IP address change/program code update (strongly recommended). The operation steps are listed below: A. Installing the Product for the first time: - Your computer must be equipped with network card and RJ-45 network connector. - Connect the RJ-45 terminator on the rear of IP-CAM with the red test network cable. One end is connected to the network card of computer; the other end is connected to the rear side of the IP-CAM. - Connect the power adaptor to the power port (on the rear) of IP-CAM. Now, the status LED on the front of IP-CAM will light up. NOTEBOOK IP CAM

8 B. Check if the IP addresses for PC network and IPCamFinder are on the same network section: - Usually, static IP address will be used to access into Internet, so the IP address will vary. When you want to change IP address, please write down the original IP address on your computer first. Then you have to modify the IP address of your computer for testing if the IP-CAM can be operated normally. After finishing the test, IP address for your computer should be recovered to original settings. - In general, the IP address for your computer in LAN will be set with "Auto Obtain IP address". To test if the IP-CAM is normal, the IP address of your computer must be changed temporarily. After finishing the test, it can be recovered to original settings. C. Next, choose Control Panel->Network Connections->choose the activated area Network Connections---> right click of your mouse --->select Properties(P)---> Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)---> Select Properties(R), then you can check the current IP address status for the computer. The way to modify IP address is: D. Open and execute IPCamFinder (as shown in Figure 2). The system will automatically scan the IP-CAM that you just installed. Then, you will find 00:15:0F:00:00: in the column of IP Cam List. Click 00:15:0F:00:00: with left mouse button. You can see the default settings for IP-CAM. Step 1. Select your PC s Ethernet network card. Step 2. Click Find IP Cam with left mouse button, you with will see 00:15:0F:00:00: Step 3. Click 00:15:0F:00:00:22 with left mouse button once, you will see following information IP Address: Net Mask : GateWay : Step 4. Click Show IP Cam with left mouse button once which will start the Browser automatically. Login using Username/Password into network monitor screen (refer to 3.1 for details). If you can see the image screen, the IP-CAM is ready to use Figure 2 2.

9 2.3 HOW TO SET UP IP CAM Before you set up IP CAM, you have to know the network environment and if the IP address is fixed or float that provided by your ISP. If you do not know, please contact with your ISP. Section 2.5 will list the common network structure (1 ~ 7 types). Users can refer to the structure to find out what type is suitable for your computer and finish the setting up according to the instructions. To set up IP-CAM and IP address, the common way that people use is to change the obtaining of IP address of IP-CAM. Detailed information is listed as ~ SETTING THE WAY TO OBTAIN THE IP ADDRESS OF IP-CAM STATIC - IP Address Setting - Your computer must be equipped with network card and RJ-45 network connector. - Connect the RJ-45 terminator on the rear of IP-CAM to the red test network cable. One end is connected to the network card of computer; the other end is connected to the rear side of the IP-CAM. - Connect the power adaptor to the power port (on the rear) of IP-CAM. Now, the status LED on the front of IP-CAM will light up. NOTEBOOK IP CAM - Open and execute IPCamFinder (as shown in Figure 3),The system will automatically scan the IP- CAM that you just installed. Then, you will find 00:15:0F:00:00: in the column of IP Cam List. Click 00:15:0F:00:00: with left mouse button. You can see the default settings for IP-CAM. Step 1. Select your PC s Ethernet network card. Step 2. Click Find IP Cam with left mouse button, you will see 00:15:0F:00:00: Step 3. Click 00:15:0F:00:00:22 with left mouse button once, you will see following information IP Address: Net Mask: GateWay: Fill in Fixed IP Address as below. (If you do not know your fixed IP address, please contact with your ISP. Below is an example of Fixed IP Address modification.) 3. Figure 3 2.

10 Step 4. Default connection mode selection is Manual, i.e. STATIC. Step 5. Type in Fixed IP. IP Address : Net Mask: GateWay : Step 6. HTTP Port:Http communication port. The default setting is 80. (If you have multiple IP-CAMs installed in the same network, you have to divide them with different Port numbers, e.g, ) Step 7. After finishing the settings, click Setting to send. The network settings for this IP-CAM are renewed Figure 3 Example: 1. Set up the IP CAM with fixed IP address. 2. Turn on your computer and open IE browser. Type :( ) in the Address line. Now you can access into the monitoring screen of network DHCP - IP Address Setting: - Use RJ-45 Ethernet cable (red) to connect ADSL host and switching hub. 11 - Connect the power adaptor to the power port (on the rear) of IP-CAM. Now, the status LED on the front of IP-CAM will light up. - Set up the connection way inside the PC network: Please go to Control Panel ---> Network Connections ---> Choose Activated LAN connection ---> right click your mouse ---> Select Properties(P)---> Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)---> Select Properties(R) --->Click Obtain an IP address automatically(o), Obtain DNS server address automatically(b). - Open and execute IPCamFinder (as shown in Figure 5). Press Update to automatically scan the IP-CAM that you just installed. Then, you will find 00:15:0F:00:00: in the column of IP Cam List. Click 00:15:0F:00:00:22 with left mouse button. You can see the default settings for IP-CAM. Step 1. Select your PC s Ethernet network card. Step 2. Click Find IP Cam with left mouse button, you will see 00:15:0F:00:00: Step 3. Click 00:15:0F:00:00: with left mouse button. Figure 5 - Change the default Manual connection mode to DHCP and click Setting once. After clicking Setting and Find IP Cam once again, a new IP Address 00:15:0F:00:00: camera appears in the IP Cam List column. Click on its MAC to make its address data fill in the lower columns. Finally, click on Show IP Cam button to open Browser and access into network monitoring screen (as shown in Figure 6).

12 Step 4. After changing Manual into DHCP, click on Setting and Find IP Cam once. Step 5. A new set of IP Address, 00:15:0F:00:00: , appears in the IP Cam List column. Step 6. Click 00:15:0F:00:00:22 with left mouse button once to fill in new address data into following columns: IP Address : SubMask : GateWay : Step 7. Click on Show IP Cam button twice to open Browser automatically and access into network monitoring screen Figure 6 Example: 1. Now, IP-CAM is set up with the IP address in LAN. 2. Or, use IPCamFinder to access into monitoring screen of network according to the instructions in Figure 5 and Or, turn on your PC and open IE Browse. Type in Address line to access into monitoring screen of network PPPoE - IP Address Setting: - Set up IP CAM according to DHCP. - Start IPCamFinder search application (as following figure). Click Find IP Cam to automatically scan the IP-Cam camera you just installed. You will find a 00:15:0F:00:00: camera in the IP Cam List column. Click 00:15:0F:00:00:22 with left mouse button once and the IP-CAM default values are filled into the lower columns. - After changing the connection mode to PPPoE and filling in User Name and Password, click the Setting button again. A new set of IP Address 00:15:0F:00:00: appears in the upper search column. Select 00:15:0F:00:00:22 to fill the new IP Address into the lower columns. Finally, click on Show IP Cam button to open Browser and access into network monitoring screen (as shown in Figure 7). 10

13 Step 1. Start IPCamFinder search application. Select your PC s network card. Click Find IP Cam to automatically scan the IP-Cam camera you just installed. Step 2. A default IP Address 00:15:0F:00:00: appears in the IP Cam List column. Step 3. Click 00:15:0F:00:00:22 with left mouse button once to fill the new address data into lower columns. Step 4. After changing the connection mode to PPPoE and filling in User Name and Password, click the Setting button again. A new set of IP Address 00:15:0F:00:00: appears in the upper search column. Click 00:15:0F:00:00:22 again to fill the new Address data into the following columns. Step 5. Click Show IP Cam with left mouse button once to automatically open Browser and access into network monitoring screen. 1. ******** Figure 7 2. 21 2.6 INSTALLATION FOR IP SHARE When IP-CAM is installed under IP Share, it can obtain a dynamic IP address from DHCP server. If you want to install the IP-CAM in WAN interface, you have to set a fixed IP address for the device. No matter whether your IP Share has the function of virtual server, it is necessary for IP-CAM to set a fixed IP address. (1) Please use IPCamFinder to set a fixed IP address for IP-CAM, e.g., and change the http port number (1025~35534). ( refer to Figure 1-1 and 1-2) Figure 1-1 Figure

26 GETTING STARTED 3.1 SYSTEM LOGIN System login is to identify user as legal user to enter the system and execute functions provided by the system. After successfully login, you can start the operations for network monitoring and set up. The steps are as follows: Step 1. Start the Login screen, referring to following figure: The method is: Use IPCamFinder and select Find IP Cam and find IP CAM in the list, then click Show IP Cam. admin Step 2. The system will show the Login screen on IE, shown as left figure: Step 3. Input Username(U) and Password(P). Step 4. Default Username(U) is admin and default Password(P) is password. Step 5. Click OK and pass the verification, you can start viewing the network monitoring screen, as shown in the following figure: Step 6. If input data is incorrect, click Cancel and re-enter. 24

27 3.2 LIVEVIEW When using IP Cam for the first time, users must change the Internet Explorer security settings (please refer to settings step ). Otherwise, the system will display the following warning, and be unable to display the surveillance images. Step 1. Following warning message is displayed on the screen. Step 2. please click on the warning message with left mouse button and select Install ActiveX Control (C). Step 3. Select Install. After successfully enabling and setting the IP CAM security parameters for the first time, no more setup needed for the future operations The IE security settings can be changed by following the steps below: Step 1. IE Toolbar ---> Tools ---> Internet Options ---> Security ---> Custom Level... Step 2. After clicking on Custom Level..., a security settings window shall appear. Change ActiveX Control Options and Plug-ins settings to the following: 1. Download signed ActiveX controls: Enable 2. Download unsigned ActiveX controls: Enable 3. Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe: Enable 4. Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Enable 5. Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting: Enable 25

28 Step 3. After pressing "OK", a warning window shall appear. Click on "Yes", and you shall return to the last window. Press "OK", and the setup is complete. Step 4. Please click on the warning message with left mouse button and select Install ActiveX Control (C). Step 5. When the installation is completed, you may begin viewing the surveillance image for the first time, as shown on the right. Note: This action is loading the ActiveX component on the host system into Local PC. 3.3 TAKE A SHOT This function allows users to capture the screenshot as a photo, and save it in the computer. Directions: Step 1. In the Real-time monitoring screen, press the button. Step 2. You can see the captured photo on the web page. Step 3. You can choose to save this image to the place you preferred. 26

Video Resolution: 176*144 / 320*240 / 640*480: Select the output image resolution size for the network camera. The higher resolution can generate larger image range, but higher resolution image requires higher network bandwidth. Following are the comparisons between the sizes of 640*480,320*480,176* x x 240: 176*144: 2. Light Source: Fixed / Omnibus: Select the environment light source mode. Fixed is for ordinary indoor lighting environment and Omnibus is for special mode such as outdoor bright lighting or dimmer lighting. 28

31 Special mode can also operate in indoor environment, yet sometime the frame rate is much slower than in normal mode. 3. Frame Rate: Fast / Normal / Slow: Select network camera output image frame rate. Higher frame rate results in smoother dynamic image. Generally, Fast frame rate is about 30 frames/ second with the expense of partial quality. Slow frame rate is 10 frames/second with higher image quality. 4.Auto Exposure: Enable / Disable: Auto Exposure adjustment turns the auto exposure adjustment function of the network camera on/off. This function automatically adjusts the light intensity. 5. Auto White Balance: Enable / Disable: Auto White Balance adjustment turns the auto white balance function of the network camera on/off. This function automatically adjusts the color to its best. 6. Brightness: Brightness manually adjusts the brightness condition of the network camera. Higher brightness makes the image brighter. 7. Contrast: Contrast manually adjusts the contrast condition of the network camera. Higher contrast increase the contrast of the image. 8. Saturation: Saturation manually adjusts the saturation condition of the network camera. Higher saturation makes the color rich and saturate. Lower saturation makes the image biased to the same color system. 9. Light Frequency: Light Frequency adjusts the image light frenquency suitable for your area. 50 Hz and 60 Hz is the most suitable image light frequency for America (60 Hz) and Europe (50 Hz) separately. (60Hz is recommended for Taiwan and 50Hz for Mainland China.) 10. Hue: Adjusts the color hue for display. 11. Mirror: Turn the left/right mirror image display on/off. 29

32 12. VFlip: Turn the vertical flip image display on/off. 13. Sharpness: Adjusts the sharpness of the image. Lower value makes the image smoother and blur. Higher value generates sharper and clearer image. After changing the settings, please click "Apply" button to save. Otherwise, please click "Undo" button to cancel the changes. 5.2 LAN SETUP Figure 19. IP Camera setup - Basic Network Setup Descriptions for controls in this page are as follows: 1. Camera Name: Set the name of the IP Cam. 2. MAC Address: Display present network camera's MAC address. 3. Get Address by PPPoE: If your device is coonected to the WAN port of router that connects directly to external Internet network, you need to select "Get Address by PPPoE". In addition, you also need to set your PPPoE settings (refer to the information provided by your ISP provider). 4. Get Address by DHCP: If network belongs to DHCP network and auto IP address assignment, you need to select this option. 5. Specify an Address: Manually assign the IP address of your network camera. Please do not set the same IP address as other network device. 30

33 6. Subnet Mask Address: The default subnet mask is: Gateway IP Address: Generally, your ISP provider should provide the position of the default gateway. If you select "Get Address by PPPoE", you need to inquire the position of the default gateway from you ISP provider. 8~10. DNS Server: Generally, your ISP provider will provide at least one DNS IP address. It is common to have multiple DNS IP setting. You must input input at least one set of DNS address. If you select "Get Address by PPPoE/Modem", you need to inquire you ISP provider for relevant settings. After changing the settings, please click "Apply" button to save. Otherwise, please click "Undo" button to cancel the changes. 5.3 WLAN SETUP Figure 20. IP Camera setup - Wireless Network Setup Descriptions for controls in this page are as follows: 1. Wireless opmode: Ad Hoc / Infrastructure: Switches the wireless network mode of the network camera, such as Ad Hoc mode (similar to point to point mode) or Infrastructure mode (broadcast mode). 2. SSID: Provides and registers a SSID for your network camera. It is easier for you to identify your network camera on the wireless network. 31

34 3. Encryption Type: Select the encryption code type for your wireless network. Several options are listed below: i. None (no code) ii. WEP (10 Hex Digital) Input 10 digits as WEP encode key. iii. WEP (26 Hex Digital) Input 26 digits as WEP encode key. iv. WEP (5 Chars) Input 5 English letters as WEP encode key. v. WEP (13 Chars) Input 13 English letters as WEP encode key. vi. WPA/TKIP (8-63 Chars) Input 8 to 63 English letters as WPA/TKIP encode key. vii. WPA/AES (8-63 Chars) Input 8 to 63 English letters as WPA/AES encode key. 4. KEY: Input WEP or WPA encode key for encryption encoding described above. Please input suitable length of digital key according to encryption type. 5. IP setup: Input IP address value and mode. If PPPoE dial-up connection mdoe is used and password is assigned by PPPoE router, please select "Get Address by PPPoE". If your system IP is auto assigned by DHCP, please select "Get Address by DHCP" and no IP setting needed. If you want to manually setup the IP address, please select "Specify an Address" and input IP address/subnet Mask Address/Gateway IP Address/Domain Name Server values. The settings can not be changed in this page. If you want to change this setting, please modify it in general network setup or wireless network setup. 36 Descriptions for controls in this page are as follows: 1. Product Name: IPCam: This control is to register the network camera's product name in the firmware. 2. Version: This is the network camera's firmware version to present in the firmware (version and time informations of the firmware included). 3. Administrator Password: This control is used to change the administrator's login password. Please input the same password in both the top and bottom columns twice to confirm. Click "Apply" to update the data. 4. MAC Address: Change the network camera's network MAC address. Please input new MAC address and click "Apply" to update data. 5. Reset Device: Yes / No: This function will reset and restart your network camera without losing saved settings. Please click "Yes" and then "Apply" button to reset. 6. Factory Defaults: Yes / No: Restore your network camera's factory defaults and restart. All the setting informations will be erased. Please click "Yes" and click "Apply" button. This is the same operation as hardware factory defaults restoring. 7. Multiport Defaults: Yes / No: Click "Yes" button to allow changing the network communication port. For example, you change the original network communication port from 80 to Then, when you want to communicate with the network camera, the web browser needs to be changed as follow. Input IP Address>: 8080 in the network address column and click the Enter key on the keyboard. (For example: the input is Port 110, then the input in the network address column can connect to this opened network communication port.) 8. Firmware Update The IPCAM software version online update function is provided. This function can be used to update the build-in software in IPCAM to keep the latest status and correct software problem. Setup steps: Step 1. Click LINK. 34

37 Step 2. Click Browse... to select the uploading update file. Step 3. Click after confirmation to complete setup. Step 4. The system uploads the file immediately. Step 5. After completing update, please close the Internet Explorer window and delete the CamImage Class component in the path below: My Computer\Control Panel\Internet Option\Setup\View Objects\CamImage Class Step 6. Re-login into IP Cam by inputting Username and password. Step 7. Check the Current Version for successful update. Note: After Step 4., please do not operate IPCAM and power off it. This will damage it and need to be sent back to factory for repair. Strongly recommended: Please use the connect method in section 2.2 to open browser and access to network monitoring screen for update action (UPDATE failure due to bad network stability will damage the product and need to be sent back to factory for repair.). 35

39 Setup Dynamic DNS (DDNS for short). Through DDNS service, clients without static IP are allowed to find this network camera from PC of external network. Please refer to Appendix B - Frequently Asked Questions for DDNS Information. Descriptions for controls in this page are as follows: 1. Dynamic DNS: Enable / Disable (Not Update): Select "Enable" or "Disable" to enable/disable DDNS sever mechanism. Since some ISP only assigns dynamic IP address, so when you need to connect to your network camera from outside, DDNS server IP address resolution is required. 2. Domain Name: Input the DDNS server position you got from registration. 3. User Name and Password: Input the DDNS server username and password you registered. 4. Server: Input the DDNS server service address you registered. 5. IPServer: Some DDNS service providers offer information for this option. Enable Time Zone: Enable / Disable: Enable or disable time zone reference. Enable or disable the time server on network and synchronize time. Using time server can make your network camera has the most correct time for your saved image or film for storage and monitoring. There are time servers available for public use on the network. You need to input a usable time server address to calibrate your time zone. 2. Time Zone: Select your time that fits your GMT time zone. Your network camera will execute synchronization according to this time zone. Description: Time Server function must be enabled. 39

42 3. Enable Time Server: Enable / Disable: Enable or disable the time function of reference time server. When enabled, the neteork camera will timely synchronize correct GMT time with time server. This function is recommended if your network camera is connected to Internet. Furthermore, disabling time zone synchronization function might result in incorrect time display. 4. Time Server IP address: Input connectable time server IP address. If you do not know available address, please use following IP address or search in the Internet. 5. Set time and Date: Manually setup present date and time as below. 6. Apply/Undo: After you change the settings, please confirm the changes are correct and click "Apply" button to save them in the network camera. 45 APPENDIX APPENDIX A. USING A PPPOE DIALUP CONNECTION AND DDNS WITH THE IPCAM (USING A HUB ) In this example, the PC terminal in HUB and IPCamFinder are used to get IP address through PPPoE. Then, dial-up using ADSL and eventually connects the client to IPCamFinder through DDNS. The main setup steps are: A. Using PC to apply the DDNS account. B. Connect PC to IPCamFinder search application. C. Setup IPCamFinder as PPPoE dial-up and execute DDNS setup. D. Successfully using DDNS to view family use IPCAM. A. Using PC to apply the DDNS account You must first have an Ethernet based Cable/ADSL modem (using RJ-45 connector) and make sure your broadband network is connected normally to Internet according to the method provided by ISP. Step 1. Open PC and start broadband network and visit dyndns.org/ website first. Step 2. Switch to Account page and click Create Account. Step 3. Fill in the account name you preferred, myipcam for this example. Then input Address and Password. Step 4. Select following two options and click Create Account to complete application. 43
