We have cobbled together a list of installation instructions and troubleshooting notes in the following pages. 3 Installation Instructions Your Lockitron can be installed in several steps, in most cases using nothing more than a Phillips head screwdriver, wire cutters, and a multimeter. Let s get you started by setting up your Lockitron mini-server. Included Parts - USB Relay Box - Mini-server with power adapter and power cord - USB A-B Cable - Ethernet Cable I. Plug Lockitron mini-server into internet and power 1. Plug ethernet cable into an available ethernet port or jack and into the back of the Lockitron mini-server. 2. Plug the mini-server into a power outlet. Lockitron Mini-server 1. Internet Router 2. If you are plugging the Lockitron server into a power strip, we recommend that you switch the power adapter out for included power cord

4 Installation Instructions II. Precaution and Disclaimer WARNING: When connecting the included relay through high-voltage wiring, you must take appropriate precautions. Handling, testing and operating highvoltage equipment and wiring can be dangerous and possibly fatal when safety rules are not followed. If you have no experience working with or are not confident working with high-voltage equipment, wiring or circuits, then DO NOT attempt to install the included relay yourself and instead seek the assistance of a licensed electrician. When working with high voltage equipment and wiring: - ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE CIRCUIT from its power source prior to performing any work on the circuit. - DO NOT TOUCH ANY COMPONENTS ON THE EXPOSED RELAY when the circuit is connected to a power source as certain traces on the board carry high voltages. We recommend that you first place the relay into the included enclosure and assemble the enclosure before turning on any associated circuit. - COVER ANY EXTERNAL WIRE CONNECTIONS with electrical tape or appropriate caps / connectors. - REVIEW YOUR LOCAL ELECTRICAL CODE AND REGULATIONS to understand if you need to have a licensed electrician complete the high voltage circuit and install high voltage wiring or equipment. 5 Installation Instructions III. Wire in Relay 1. Remove the cover from the Lockitron case. CH4 9V DC NO COM NC USB 2. Ensure Jumpers 1 and 2 (J1 & J2) are in the correct positions. J1 should be set to position B so the circuit knows to use external power. J2 should be set to position A so the circuit knows it s using 9V relays. J1: A - Use USB bus voltage (5V) B - Use external power source (9V) J2: A - 9V DC Relays B - 5V DC Relays COM NC NO CH4 CH4 B J1 A B J2 A USB 9V DC Relay Rating: 10A 110V AC / 24V DC (Resitive Loads) - 5 -

6 Installation Instructions IV. Complete the Circuit If you have already installed an access control system or strike, then remove power from the system. In the case of an access control system, attempt to locate an available REX or Request to Exit input where you can wire in the appropriate hot and neutral wires. (Wires not included.) If your buzzer or current strike does not have a REX input, then you should locate the circuit connected to the buzzer s button. Remove power to this circuit and insert the Lockitron relay in parallel with the buzzer button. When you have completed the circuit, ensure that there is no exposed wiring and that all connections are well secured to their terminals. Replace the relay enclosure. ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE VERIFIED THE WIRING OF THE CIRCUIT SHOULD YOU PLUG IN THE POWER SUPPLY. Note that the power supply being used by the electric strike is not supplied in this kit. Note that for a single door installation, you must wire into the Channel 4 relay. In the case of a fail-secure lock or strike, wire into the NO or normally open terminal and the COM terminal. When working with AC mains power, it is highly recommended to interrupt the NEUTRAL wire as opposed to the HOT wire. Plug in relay Plug the Lockitron relay into the Lockitron server via the provided USB cable, then plug the relay into a standard wall outlet using the included 9V DC power adapter. Lockitron Allow your Lockitron server a minute to recognize the relay. Then complete the registration steps listed below to use your Lockitron. WARNING: An improperly wired circuit, relay or other high voltage equipment may cause electrocution, death, fire or other personal and property damage. Please refer to the full disclosures above and verify your circuit before applying any current to it or connecting the relay. If upon registering your Lockitron the relay is not functioning and you are unable to release the strike via the Lockitron Dashboard then immediately remove power from the circuit, unplug the relay from both its power supply and its USB cable and verify the circuit

The page should automatically detect your serial number. Once you have agreed to the Terms and Conditions, just enter your information and hit Register. If your serial number is not automatically detected, it is possible your mini-server could not connect to the internet. Please verify the LEDs next to the ethernet are illuminated and blinking and that the cable is fully inserted. The welcome screen on your Lockitron dashboard will guide you through setup on your smartphone. VII. Enjoy Lockitron! 9 Using the Dashboard Granting virtual keys If you would like to invite other users to your Lockitron, you can grant virtual keys via your dashboard at (you must be logged in to visit your dashboard). To get started, click on the Manage Keys link in the bottom right hand corner of your listing. A list of currently issued keys will appear. Here you can invite other users by entering their address, desired start and expiration time of their key (leave blank for no expiration) and whether or not you want to give them administrative privileges to invite and delete other guest users. You can delete users by clicking on the Delete link next their listing. Changing lock information To modify the name of your lock, simply click on the name, enter a desired new name and click Submit. To change the timezone of the lock, click on the Edit link next to its current timezone. Changing personal information If you want to edit your own personal information such as name or , click on the Settings link at the top of the page. You can also add premium services such as text-message access which allows any phone to use your Lockitron without an internet connection by going to the settings page

10 Smartphone Setup Adding Lockitron to your smartphone Out of the box, Lockitron supports any internet enabled phone with a browser. The best place for information on setting up your smartphone with Lockitron is the welcome dialog accessible under the green Learn more link on your dashboard. iphone For iphones with ios 3.1+ we offer the Lockitron app, available in the App Store for free. Simply search for Lockitron, install the app and log in with your Lockitron account. If you have an older iphone, we recommend you use the Lockitron mobile site, Android 1. Load and log into your account 2. Touch the bookmark icon in the top right of your screen and confirm the bookmark 3. Touch and hold the bookmark icon in the bookmarks list 4. Select Add shortcut to Home - return to your home screen to find the bookmark Other Smartphones (i.e. Blackberry, Palm, Windows Mobile) Lockitron is accessible for any internet enabled smartphone at lockitron.com. We recommend that you bookmark on your smartphone for faster access to your Lockitron keys. 11 Troubleshooting Problems with your Lockitron? Below we have listed some of the most common problems that you might experience with Lockitron. For the most up-to-date information, visit the support page in your dashboard at Otherwise, if you need additional assistance, please us at Lockitron isn t locking or unlocking when sent a command If your Lockitron isn t consistently responding to your commands, the first step in diagnosing it is by using the Lock and Unlock buttons on the Locks tab. Click on one of the buttons to test the Lockitron - if the button flashes red after you click on it, then your Lockitron is offline. The most likely cause for this is that the Lockitron has been unplugged from a power source or its internet source. Check to see that the Lockitron is plugged in by seeing if at least of the lights on the top of the server unit is on or flashing and that one or both of the lights next to the ethernet jack are flashing. If the Lockitron is fully powered up and plugged into a working internet connection, yet the button still flashes red after clicking the Lock or Unlock buttons, then your should try unplugging the server from power briefly, then plugging it back in. Wait at least one minute, then repeat the above steps. If after all of this Lockitron still isn t working for you, we recommend that you contact us and we can check it out from our end! My buttons flash green, but it still doesn t work! If your Lock and Unlock buttons in the control panel flash green, but your Lockitron still does not respond, then your Lockitron relay might be unplugged from either its USB cable, power supply or circuit. Ensure that your Lockitron relay is properly plugged in and that the relay is properly completing the circuit with the strike and power source. If you need to reconnect the Lockitron server to the relay or repair the circuit, ensure to take appropriate precautions and disconnect all power sources first. Watch for unplugged cables If the Lockitron mini-server is installed under a desk or in a high-traffic zone there exists a greater chance of accidental unplugging. If the Lockitron is either unplugged from the wall or if its the relay is unplugged, it will no longer function. We recommend that you install Lockitron in a place where it is more difficult to unplug accidentally

If you are using Internet Explorer, we recommend that you upgrade to the latest version ( IE 8 ) or install one of the above browsers. Beta Features There are several features that as of the writing of this manual are considered to be in a beta testing phase, and thus might not function as fully expected. These include a free logging functionality that is available on the Analytics page and will list the three most recent logs from your door lock. Another feature is our text message access that is available on the Settings page for a small monthly fee. This allows you to unlock or lock your door from any text message enabled phone as well as issue and revoke keys.
