This provides an ideal wire-saving system using open network communication with PLCs to efficiently transmit a small number of I/O signals scattered throughout user s remote locations. 115 (4.53) 1. Outview The R7L Series is provided with various types of modules for analog input, analog output, contact input and contact output. Extension modules can be connected to all basic modules. Features (1) Compact size Base module: 115 (W) x 50 (H) x 54 (D) mm (4.53 x 1.97 x 2.13 ) (See Figure 1) Extension module (16 points): 94 (W) x 50 (H) x 54 (D) mm (3.70 x 1.97 x 2.13 ) (See Figure 2 [a] ) Extension module (8 points): 65 (W) x 50 (H) x 54 (D) mm (2.56 x 1.97 x 2.13 ) (See Figure 2 [b] ) 94 (3.70) mm (inch 54 (2.13) [a] Extension module (16 points) 65 (2.56) (2) Two-piece terminal block The basic module uses a 2-piece design for its communications/ power supply terminal block and I/O terminal block, providing superior maintainability by allowing either terminal block to be replaced without the need to disconnect any wiring. Alarm Output Functionality input analog values. The R7L provides functionality for generating discrete alarm outputs for each of these values for transmission over the network. Each type of output can also be sent to other modules. In addition, discrete alarm outputs can be combined with an LED display function block to display the alarm status on the basic module s LEDs. Scaling Zero and span for analog values can be changed, as can the type of network variables. This functionality can be used to convert temperature data from a thermocouple input module into percentage data. Extension module connectivity Analog and discrete signals can be mixed by combining a basic module with an extension module. For example, it is possible to output an alarm signal from an analog input module to an extension discrete output module. Number of ON counts or accumulated time of ON status for discrete input function. Because all basic modules can be connected to an extension discrete input module, they provide pulse counts and ON time accumulation functionality. In addition to counting ON numbers and ON times of Contact input via the network, it is possible to directly count ON numbers and ON times for Contact input terminals which are not connected via the network. Counting up to a maximum of 999,999,999 is available. Network variables can be used to change the count logic from change from off to on to change from on to off. The R7L also provides network variables that can control count operation, making it possible to control count operation from an external device. 2

SALES TOPICS Visiting M-System A training program for Chinese local sales staff was held from Jan. 12th to 15th at Osaka. China is the fi rst country in Asia where M-System has its overseas representative office. The Chinese office was founded in Now all fi ve staff are Chinese and four of them are employed in Shanghai. From this point of view, Chinese market seems to be most advanced in localization among M-System s global business operation. 3

4 This time Miss Liang and Mr. Jin from Shanghai office attended the training. Together with them were Mr. Yu and Mr. Luo from our distributor Kingbow. The training was tending to broaden product knowledge and exchange information with our Japanese colleagues. The program consisted of product introduction, factory visiting, exchanging market information with Japanese sales people. The target of this training seemed to have generally achieved. Besides technical stuff, the following were in their short term stay. 1) Factory visiting. Got a concrete image on ordering process and manufacturing process. Surprised to see that all the process being managed and controlled by computer. Even Zero/Span adjustment are done by robot. 2) Get an idea on how quality being maintained during manufacturing process and how lead time being achieved with above 600 small orders per day. 3) Kyoto Techno Center: sophisticated test devices. Had a feel about M-System s efforts on R&D and QC. 4) Some feeling about Japanese hard working spirits. The office buildings around their hotel were lighted far into night. The schedule was very tight but still every body got a chance to enjoy it. It was fruitful as one put it by joking: We didn t expect to get much from Japan under this economy recession and especially when Yen is record-level expensive. But we did get a lot to bring back. We all know what it means. There is no doubt that the confi dence they acquired during this stay will benefit in future for a long time. 5 Signal generator using M2MS We are looking for a simple Generator to output analog signals proportional to the set points of external contact ON signals. Do you have such a product? We propose a solution of using our Potentiometer Transmitter (model: M2MS). Per drawing #2, it can output 5 set points of analog signals per 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%.
