17 CHAPTER 2 Operation and Maintenance 7. Cleaning / Preventive Maintenance It is important to keep the bill path, rollers, and belts clean. The sensor lenses are transparent, and made of polymer material. Handle them with care. To clean the lenses, use a lint-free cloth and mild non-abrasive detergent such as liquid dish soap mixed with water. Do not use alcohol or thinner for cleaning. Note: JCM does not recommend cleaning cards, cleaning pads, or cleaning solutions of any kind. Preventive Maintenance (P/M) Do periodic P/M on the acceptor s head to ensure proper operation. Use compressed air to blow out the paper fibers and other debris that builds up over time. Check the belts and all moving parts for wear and proper positioning. If the unit does not operate properly, it can cause bill jams. After completing the P/M, Auto-Calibration is recommended (Refer to Chapter 7). 2-7

32 CHAPTER 6 Trouble Shooting 1. Trouble Shooting General Symptoms / Error messages Bill Acceptor is not working (does not take any bills). Standby LED (green) does not light when using faceplate. Red LED is flashing when using faceplate. Faceplate light is always off. Bill is jamming often. Possible Causes No external power is applied to the bill acceptor (+24VDC, GND). Wrong or inappropriate connections. Corrupted software. CPU board failure. All denominations are inhibited by dipswitch (all switches are ON). All denominations are inhibited by command from host controller. Bill acceptance is inhibited in all 4 directions by command from host controller. Faceplate LED board or harness failure. Bill is jammed inside the acceptor. Bill cannot be dispensed due to the limited space below or behind the acceptor. No connections on the signal source. LED board or harness failure. Drive belts are dirty or damaged. Pressure roller spring is loose or missing. Foreign object in the transport path. Bill is wider than 77mm or narrower than 62mm (out of SEB-404 specifications). TL unit is not securely fixed to the SEB. Corrective Action Verify that the 24 VDC and ground are connected to appropriate pins on the main connector. Check the connections of all harnesses and connectors. Check for any bent, missing or damaged pins in the connectors. Download the correct software. Refer to chapter 7 for download instructions. Refer to the page 6-5 Performance Test and conduct Initial Operation Test. If the test result is NG, replace CPU board. Make sure to calibrate the sensors after CPU board is replaced. Enable the denominations by setting dipswitches OFF. Enable the denominations by sending command to bill acceptor. Enable the bill acceptance directions by sending command to bill acceptor. Replace the faceplate. Open the bill acceptor and remove the bill. Remove the bill and clear the bill exit to keep enough space for bill dispensing. Check if the faceplate harness is security connected to the side connector. Replace the faceplate. Clean the drive belts and the pressure rollers. Replace as necessary. Check the pressure roller springs with finger and replace as necessary. Clean the transport path to remove the foreign object. Use only bills within SEB-404 specifications. Firmly fix the TL unit with the SEB to keep the transport path flat. 6-2

33 CHAPTER 6 Trouble Shooting Symptoms / Error messages Possible Causes Corrective Action Low acceptance rates. All bills rejected. Motor keeps running. Cannot enter the test mode. (Faceplate green LED does not flash.) Dirt and stain on the rollers and lenses. Sensors need to be calibrated. The unit has been disassembled and the calibration is not done after it is reassembled. Using wrong software or old version software. Bills are not to be accepted in this software. Narrow bills (ex. 5 Euro bill) which should be put in the center position are inserted to the right or left. Sensors lenses are loose or missing. Various causes Wrong software (different currency). The bills are not to be accepted in the software. Wrong dip switch settings. Bill acceptance is inhibited by the command from host controller. Various causes. Wrong dipswitch setting. Dip switch failure. Clean the transport path. Refer to page 2-6 for cleaning. Follow the instructions on chapter 7 to calibrate the sensors. Make sure to calibrate the sensors after re-assemble the SEB. Make sure if the programmed software is the latest version and it supports the bills you wish to be accepted. Check the specifications, and make sure the bills are to be accepted in the software (check denomination / issuing year). Insert the narrow bills in the center position. Sensor lenses need to be placed in position. Contact JCM. Refer to the page 6-5 Performance Test and conduct Bill Acceptance Test to find possible causes. Download correct software. Make sure the bills are included in the specifications of software (denominations / issuing year). Enable the denominations by setting dipswitches OFF. Enable the bill acceptance by the command. Refer to the page 6-5 Performance Test and conduct Bill Acceptance Test to find possible causes. Bill acceptor cover is open. Close the cover firmly. Foreign object or jammed bill is in the transport path. Motor failure. Remove the foreign object or jammed bill, and close the cover. Refer to the page 6-5 Performance Test and conduct Forward/Reverse Motor Rotation Test. Set the switch #8 ON, and then supply power to the SEB. Refer to the page 6-5 Performance Test and conduct Dip Switch Test. 6-3

34 CHAPTER 6 Trouble Shooting Calibration Symptoms / Error messages Cannot start the ADJxxx.exe program by double-clicking. Communication Error. Calibration Error. Possible Causes Dosvga file is not saved in the same directory. Windows XP is used. The program files are corrupted. Dip switch setting of SEB is not correct. Dip switch setting of VM-124 is not correct. Dip switch failure. Wrong reference paper. Corrective Action Save both ADJxxx.exe and Dosvga files in the same directory in your PC. Our calibration program does not support Windows XP. Use Windows 95/98/Me/2000. Ask JCM for the correct programs. Set the Dip switch (1-7 OFF, 8 ON) of SEB, and turn on the power of VM-124. Refer to the chart on the bottom of VM-124 for correct dip switch settings. Refer to the page 6-5 Performance Test and conduct Dip Switch Test. Follow the instruction on the ADJxxx.exe program and use correct reference papers. Download Symptoms / Error messages Cannot start the DWN.exe. Error message appears during download. RX TIME OUT error appears. Download is complete, but checksum Mxxxx is not the same as the checksum on top of the monitor. Possible Causes Wrong parameters. Windows XP is used. The program file is corrupted. Wrong download program. Dip switch setting of SEB is wrong. Dip switch setting of VM-124 is not correct. Communication is not established between PC and bill acceptor. Download is not successful. Corrective Action Enter correct parameters. Refer to chapter 7 for instructions. Our download program does not support Windows XP. Use Windows 95/98/Me/2000. Ask JCM for the correct program. Make sure to use Dwn.exe. Use the command F to start downloading. Set the Dip switch of SEB (1-4 OFF, 5-8 ON), and turn on the power of VM-124.
