1 Hubbell s FCR series of rack mounted enclosures are the ideal solution for installations requiring fiber patching or fiber slack storage within a 19 or 23 wide rack or cabinet (unit comes with use adjustable mounting brackets). These are modular enclosures so they ship with NO fiber connectors installed. To complete the installation the customer simply needs to order the splice trays (max 2 x 10 trays), FSP adapters, or MTP fiber cassettes they need. The modular design maximizes installation flexibility as the customer can populate the unit based on their needs they don t have to work around a pre-configured enclosure and modify their installation to suit! The FCR series enclosures feature quick release latches on the front cover (which can be locked by simply adding the FLOCK1 or FLOCK2 optional lock kit). It also has a front pull-out shelf and removable top cover making it VERY easy to access the connections inside to complete installation or add/remove connections in the future. These enclosures also feature built-in tie downs for patch cords / cabling as well as a tinted, removable cover to protect the connections on the front of the panel. These enclosures are constructed from 16 gauge cold rolled steel and have a durable black powder coat finish which will keep it looking new for years to come! They are offered in 4 sizes which will accept 6, 9, 12, or 15 FSP adapter panels or MTP series fiber cassettes (FCR350SP54R does not accept the MTP cassettes). This allows the customer to choose the size that s right for the application but also allow for future expansion if necessary! 2

2 The FPR series of rack mounted panels are ideal for installations where the customer only needs a few fiber connections and has limited rack space. They are all 1U high and the adjustable mounting brackets allow them to be used in either 19 or 23 wide racks and cabinets. These panels come in 2 styles pre-loaded or modular. The pre-loaded panels come ready to use and fully loaded with fiber adapters. They will accept either 12 or 24 fibers either SC-style or ST-style (cannot mix styles in the pre-loaded panels). These are ideal for customers who are using 1 type of connection and don t want to mess around with a modular set-up. For customers who want a little more flexibility or need to be able to mix different types of fiber connectors within the panel the FPR3SP modular panel is the perfect solution! This panel accepts all of the FSP series modular adapter panels (max 3 panels) so the customer can mix and match to get the combination of connections they need! The FPR series panels feature a swing-out fiber drawer (hinged on left side) which provides easy access to cables and connectors. It also features a splice tray mounting stud which accepts two 7 or 10 fiber splicing trays (should the customer require the ability to splice fibers rather than using connectors to mate patch cables). 3

3 Some fiber installations need a little extra space where fiber terminations and splice trays can be organized and managed. That s where Hubbell s Fiber Interconnection Products come in! Hubbell offers two styles of product each with their own little features. The FEUR series of interconnection shelves are offered in 3 styles 1) pre-loaded with fiber adapters, 2) punched with cut-outs for 3 FSP adapters, or 3) completely blank. The pre- loaded units come with either 12 or 24 multimode connections. The slide-out tray includes 2 cable management clips which are used to spool extra fiber (known as slack loops) and organize cables. The fact that the tray slides out makes it much easier to access the cables inside the unit. FEUR shelves are designed to fit 19 racks but can also be installed in 23 racks thanks to the adjustable mounting brackets supplied with every unit! They do the same basic job as the FEUR shelves, but are a little more flexible and more cost effective. They are designed to fit 19 racks / cabinets and are offered in 4 sizes (1, 2, 3, or 4U high), are completely modular, and will accept the FSP adapter panels, MTP cassettes, or fiber splice trays! These units feature a front mounted cable organizer and have a completely open design to allow easy access to cables and connections. They also feature vertical cable feed-throughs which allow multiple panels to be stacked on-top of each other while allowing cabling to run between the trays without having to run the cable out of one tray, into a vertical cable manager, and then back in to the next tray! Optional front and rear covers are available for customers who want to limit access to the cables or keep dirt and debris from collecting on the tray. 4

4 Many fiber installations ti require the ability to splice fibers together. th This may be the result of accidental damage to the cable or it may be part of the design of the installation. Either way Hubbell offers customers options. For installations where a large number of splices need to be made Hubbell s FCR350E fiber splice enclosure is the route to go. These enclosures hold up to 6 splice trays allowing for up to 144 fibers to be spliced in one rack mount enclosure! These enclosures feature gasket-less internal routing knockouts and include cable management hardware (cable ties and adhesive backed D clips) for routing of cables. They also have a slide out drawer which makes accessing the cables and splice trays much easier! For installations where only a few splices need to be made or where rack space is limited Hubbell offers the FSS01S rack mounted Splice Shelf. This shelf accepts up to 2 splice trays. It features a swing-out drawer for easy access to cables and splice trays and comes complete with cable management hardware (cable ties and adhesive backed C clips). Hubbell Splice Trays are available in 7 (holds up to 12 splices) and 10 (holds up to 24 splices) sizes. We offer 2 methods of splicing fibers fusion or mechanical. Fusion splicing of fiber cables involves special tools which basically melt the two ends together creating a near perfect connection in the fiber. Mechanical splicing involves special parts (not supplied) which mechanically align the two fiber ends and hold them in place. Whichever method the customer chooses we have the tray to meet their needs all they have to do is supply the equipment and skills to make the splices and we ll keep them organized! In addition to the splice trays Hubbell offers a special adapter bracket which fits in place and allows the customer to install up to two FSP adapter panels thus allowing them to convert a splice shelf / enclosure to fiber connection panel / enclosure! This comes in handy should the installation ti needs change down the road. If the customer no longer needs a splice shelf / enclosure they can convert the existing unit to accept adapter panels rather than having to remove it and buy a new product! 5

5 The OptiChannel line of wall mount cabinets are ideally suited for use in remote areas (areas outside the telecom room / closet) where the customer only needs to make a few fiber connections and doesn t have space for a large enclosure (like the ReBox) or an equipment rack. All of Hubbell s wall mount cabinets are modular and accept the FSP series adapter panels as well as splice trays (FTU1SP and FTU2SP do not accept splice trays). Hubbell offers two styles of cabinet double or single door. The double-door units accept the FSP adapter panels and the part number tells you HOW MANY panels it will accept (FCW4SP 4 panels, FCW12SP 12 panels). This style of cabinet has a lockable door on the technician side. This prevents unauthorized access to the main connections within the enclosure. The second door provides access to the user side and protects the patch cord connections on the side of the enclosure. It too can be secured with an optional key lock kit. The single door units will accept 1, 2, or 4 FSP adapters depending on which size of enclosure the customer buys (the part number indicates the number of FSP adapters the enclosure will hold... FTU1SP, FTU2SP, FTU4SP). The FTU4SP will also accept up to two 7 splice trays. The front cover extends past the side of the box where the FSP adapter panels mount to provide protection to the patch cords which are connected to the outside of the cabinet (the user connections). In order to access these connections the user must open the door of the enclosure exposing the main connections inside the enclosure. The cover has a basic ¼ turn latching system but can be equipped with an optional key lock kit (FLOCK1 or FLOCK2) for added security. Hubbell offers two key lock kits. The FLOCK1 comes with a key which also works on the technician side lock. The FLOCK2 is keyed differently, preventing users from having a key to the technician side of the enclosure. 6

6 To go along with all the various modular panels and enclosures Hubbell offers we have the FSP adapter panels. These panels are the heart and soul of the OptiChannel modular system and allow customers to tailor Hubbell s products to suit their needs both now and in the future. They also make it very easy to change the installation around should those needs change! The FSP adapters come in a variety of styles based on the TYPE of fiber connection (ST, SC, LC, FC, or MT-RJ). The TYPE of connection determines the physical size and shape of the adapters used on the panel. The physical size and shape of the adapter determines how many can be placed on a single FSP panel. There are 3 basic configurations Simplex, Duplex, and Quad but you can also get highdensity duplex and high density quad. Simplex and Duplex are self-explanatory simplex adapters accept ONE fiber, Duplex adapters accept TWO fibers per adapter. Quad adapters will accept 4 fibers per adapter (so 12 fibers on the standard panel, 24 on the high-density version). Quad adapter configurations are only offered on LC type adapter panels because the LC connectors are the smallest in physical size. The number of adapters varies depending on the TYPE of fiber connection but you basically will see 6 or 8 simplex adapters per panel or 3 duplex adapters, or 3 quad type adapters. High-density panels will have 6 duplex (SC only) or 6 quad adapters (LC only). Other than the TYPE of fiber connection there is one other factor in choosing the right FSP adapter panel the type of optical transmission. There are two types single mode and multimode. These concepts will be explained in another module. For now all you need to know in order to pick the right adapter panel for an application is that the material the adapter is made from determines what transmission type it can be used for! Phosphour bronze adapters can ONLY be used for Multimode connections. Zirconia Ceramic adapters can be used for BOTH Single and Multimode... So when in doubt offer the Zirconia adapter! Note: Hubbell offers a variety of housing colours on the adapters. This allows the customer to colour code the various connections for quick, easy, VISUAL identification of the connections when trouble shooting or doing an add/replace. Hubbell also offers blank panels for filling unused spaces as well as unloaded panels which have no adapters installed in them. This allows the customer to mix and match different types of adapters (ie LC and SC) in one panel if they only need a few of each! 7
