2 1 The Voltage Monitor series reads battery bus status, detects out-of-limit conditions, and provides alarm indications at precise user settings. All models feature local digital display of conditions and contact outputs, as well as Ethernet connectivity to transmit voltage levels and alarms. Each Monitor can be set to a fixed IP address, or can have an address assigned by a DHCP server elsewhere on the network. The color touchscreen displays status of the voltage and enables input of user settings. The settings screen may be activated by one touch. Trigger limits may be set, along with desired delay and the Monitor s Ethernet IP Address. The Ground Fault Monitors (GFM) read offset voltage from ground, and alarms for ground faults. The Voltage Monitor (VM) reads DC voltage level, and alarms for voltage levels outside of the user settings. The Voltage Ground Monitor combines the functions of the GFM and VM models into a single unit. The Digital Monitors are designed for quick installation on walls, panels or 48mm DIN rails. 3 3 Operation The VM contains a small DC-DC converter power supply to provide regulated 5Vdc power to the rest of the unit. The input voltage and ground voltages are scaled by resistor dividers to reduce the voltage to logic levels. These low-level voltages are measured by the microcontroller s on-board 10-bit ADC. The chip s firmware programming detects trigger conditions and controls the output relays through digital outputs. The microcontroller also drives the touchscreen, and sends data to a Ethernet controller chip for transmission from the Monitor s LAN port. When power is applied to the Monitor, the firmware reads the stored settings from the microcontroller s on-board EEPROM, and begins monitoring. The touchscreen displays the under and over voltage trigger level setting and the Monitor s IP address. If overvoltage or undervoltage alarm occurs, voltage read out will change from green to red and the word UNDERVOLTAGE or OVERVOLTAGE will appear on screen below the voltage display. 4 Setting the Voltage Monitor All models of the Voltage Monitor are shipped with default settings entered. If different settings are desired, they can be changed by tapping the Setup button on the touchscreen. The display will change to the settings screen, where the setting to be changed can be selected. The procedure is similar for all settings. All monitor alarms are disabled when in any Settings screen. CALIBRATION Monitors with voltage level alarms can be calibrated (ground fault alarms in the VGM and GFM are pre-calibrated). To calibrate the voltage sensing of the monitor will require either a calibrated voltage source or a calibrated digital voltmeter. To calibrate the monitor, apply power to the unit for at least ten minutes. With a known voltage level applied, press the Setup button on the screen. When the Setup screen appears, select Calibrate. The Calibration screen will appear. The voltage readout will be white, and changing more rapidly than when the Monitor is online. VM - 2

4 Tap the + and - buttons until the display readout matches the applied voltage. Press Save to keep the new calibration. Cancel will delete the new calibration and return the unit online, and Default will return the Monitor to its internal default calibration. OVER is the overvoltage alarm level setting. In the Settings screen, tap the black window displaying the current OVER setting. The screen will change to a numeric keypad. Input of the desired value will display as it is being typed. The Clear button will erase any typed number and restart the number entry. The Cancel button will exit the Over Limit screen and return to the Settings screen. The Save button will save the newly entered value and return to the Settings screen. UNDER is the undervoltage alarm level setting. In the Settings screen, tap the black window displaying the current UNDER setting. The screen will change to a numeric keypad. Input of the desired value will display as it is being typed. The Clear button will erase any typed number and restart the number entry. The Cancel button will exit the Under Limit screen and return to the Settings screen. The Save button will save the newly entered value and return to the Settings screen. DELAY (S) is the time delay setting for all alarms. it is set in seconds. In the Settings screen, tap the black window displaying the current DELAY setting. The screen will change to a numeric keypad. Input of the desired value will display as it is being typed. The Clear button will erase any typed number and restart the number entry. The Cancel button will exit the DELAY screen and return to the Settings screen. The Save button will save the newly entered value and return to the Settings screen. IP ADDRESS is the Ethernet IP address of the Monitor. It is set in nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn format and can be any legal IP address. In the Settings screen, tap the IP ADDR button. The screen will change to a numeric keypad. Type the desired value. The new value will appear as it is typed. The Clear button will erase any typed number, and restart the number entry. The Cancel button will exit the Delay screen and return to the Settings screen The Save button will save the newly entered value and return to the Settings screen. EXIT will return from the Settings screen to the online display. If the Monitor is in setting screen for 60 seconds without any button being tapped, the monitor will return to the monitoring screen using the last values saved. VM - 3

5 5 Installation The VM-100 is designed to mount on a surface or panel, or on a 35mm DIN rail. A stainless steel spring clip is provided for panel mounting, and a plastic mounting clip for mounting on DIN rails. Panel or Wall Mounting To mount the VM-100 to a panel, the spring clip must be mounted to the panel, and the VM-100 snapped onto it. Refer to the dimensional drawing of the clip. Locate and drill two holes in the panel for mounting the clip. Be sure to allow enough clear space around the clip for the VM-100. It is recommended that the holes be tapped for UNC hardware if mounting on a metal panel. When the clip is securely mounted, install the VM-100 by locating the two narrow slots on the back of the case. Slip the top slot onto the upper tab to the spring clip, and push the unit firmly upward until the lower slot lines up with the lower tab of the clip. While the lower tab and slot are lined up, press the VGM- 100 onto the clip until it snaps into place against the panel. Attempt to move the VGM-100 to ensure that it is securely mounted. The VM-100 may move slightly on the clip but should not come away from the panel. To disengage the clip, it may be necessary to gently pry the bottom of the unit away from the panel while applying downward pressure to unsnap the clip. VM - 4

6 DIN Rail Mounting To mount the VM-100 to a 35mm DIN rail, first attach the included DIN rail clip to the back of the unit using the three screws provided. NOTE: These screws are 6-32 x 5/16 UNC flathead screws. No other hardware size should be used. Use of any other size or length of hardware may come into contact with internal components of the unit and may void the warranty. With the DIN clip attached, place the VGM-100 against the DIN rail and slide it downward until the clip engages the rail. Then press the VGM-100 downward to compress the springs of the clip and clear the lower tabs of the clip on the rail. Slowly release the downward pressure until the lower tabs of the DIN clip engage the rail. To remove from the DIN rail, press the unit firmly down to compress the springs while pulling the bottom of the unit away from the rail. VM - 5
