1 Lucent Technologies Data Sheet , Issue 1 AnyMedia Access System Release 1.1 DTP500 Communication Interface Unit (CIU) 1 Overview The communication interface unit (CIU) has no service-affecting functions but it is required for a lot of operations-related functions. Therefore its use is required in all AnyMedia Access System applications. Figure 1 depicts the plug-in faceplate, Figure 2 shows the pinning of the CIT port, the location of the jumpers on the CIU is illustrated in Figure 3. Table 1 to Table 3 list the functions and colors of the LED indicators, the buttons, and connectors. The jumper settings for the different station clock configurations are listed in Table 4, Table 5 contains the power consumption of the plug-in. 2 Features and functions The CIU plug-in: Supports local craft and operations system interfaces Supports local test access Reads shelf inventory pins Provides storage of LAN media access control (MAC) address Provides a station clock interface Provides a TAP100-connected LED TC to signify that the test bus relays are active Provides a faceplate LED ACTIVE to indicate when pack is in operation Provides drivers and a backplane interface for the 10BaseT LAN to connect the GSI Acts as a buffer/level translator for layer 1 of the LAN interface, passing the data and control signals to the active COMDAC Provides a faceplate connector CIT to connect the GSI Provides detectors for eight miscellaneous alarm inputs (08.98) 1

2 Provides three office alarm relays Provides an alarm cutoff button ACO to cut off the alarm indication via the three office alarm relays Provides a faceplate test jack CHAN/MON for bridging access (monitoring mode, i.e. the operator can listen in to an existing call) and faceplate test jacks CHAN/MON and DROP for full-splitting access (to the drop side, i.e. toward drop and end-customer equipment and to the channel side, i.e. toward the AP). Supports enhanced inventory Provides an LED test button LED TEST to support testing of plug-in LEDs Includes built-in self-tests (BISTs) and fault diagnostics. 3 Description The CIU contains a connection to the test access path B (TAP-B) connector on the backplane. TAP-B is one of the two metallic test access paths, consisting of two pairs which provide both internal and external metallic test access to the ports and drops of the application packs. The CIU supports testing for POTS services by providing a relay hardware for connecting the general purpose bus (GPB) and the TAP-B. Via this connector the TAP100 will be connected to the AnyMedia Access System for subscriber line measurement. Local test access is supported via test jacks under provisioning and control commands sourced from the GSI. The CIU supports a 9-pin D-sub female faceplate connector CIT for support of a local GSI. This interface is configured as data communications equipment (DCE). It is buffered on the CIU and sent directly to the host processor on the active COMDAC (layer1). The CIU has a faceplate push-button for LED test which will cause all AnyMedia shelf LEDs to light temporarily when pressed. 2 (08.98)

The synchronization clock can be provided to the backplane connector via coaxial pair cables with 75 Ω resistive or via symmetrical pair cables with 120 Ω resistive. By means of two jumpers on the DTP500 the station clock interface can be configured for both cable types. Jumper MP4 on header P4 selects between 75 Ω and 120 Ω load resistance. Jumper MP5 on header P5 selects between matched impedance (MI) and high impedance (HI) load. Table 4 shows the location of the two jumpers on the circuit pack and in table 2 the jumper settings for the different cable types are summarized (08.98) 5
