Evolution of Active Learning at Portland State University Emily Hanson, James Hatfield, Brian Myers
Standard Classroom Setup Extron MLC 226 Controller Extron IN1608 Switcher Inputs: PC Blu-Ray Player Doc Cam HDMI VGA & 3.5mm RCA
School of Business Room 390 Request from client: a collaborative space with maximum amount of whiteboards Clear front of room for a more traditional feel We offered functionality to send professors screen to other locations
Technology Mitsubishi WD380U-EST short throw projectors x4 Group stations were BYOD Instructor station had resident computer & Doc Cam Extron MLC 104 IP Plus, with: Network HDMI VGA & 3.5mm RCA 3 locations could select the primary location as an input option, fed to the projector from either an Extron VGA 1x4 DA, or a Kramer HDMI 1x4 DA
Reception Students loved the room and requested more similar spaces
Millar Library Sandbox
First test of openly accessible collaborative design
Previous Millar Library Lab Configuration Individual PC workstations, as well as several printing stations. No space for students to bring in laptops.
Adjacent Lounge Fixed furniture without resident technology
Redesigned Space

Space was designed to accommodate both individual and group work. Furniture is moveable.
Reception
Millar Library 96 One of three rooms using the Extron TeamWork Systems 4-6 users at a time, one of which is in use for a resident PC One Analog VGA & 3.5mm Input also provided, the remaining inputs are HDMI
Millar Library Third floor Resident PC without touch or wireless connectivity Power outlets on floor and tables
Millar Library 390 The PC and Sharelink are connected via an Extron USB Switch so that the Jtouch touchscreen and USB hub can be used for both inputs. The final Input on the MLC is for the built in Whiteboard of the JTouch. Extron MLC 104 IP Plus HDMI Input Resident PC Extron ShareLink Display is an InFocus JTouch
Fourth Avenue Building Room 10
Features Engineering Department asked us to design a collaborative space with the Epson Brightlink whiteboard. Requested as many whiteboards as possible paired with modular furniture
Technology We used an existing space with a standard classroom setup and added a 1x4 HDMI DA to support sending the instructor station to four breakout locations Each breakout location has an Extron MLC 104 IP Plus controlling an Epson Brightlink 1410Wi interactive short throw projector We provided two USB connections so that students could connect laptops and take advantage of the interactive options of the Brightlink projectors

Market Center Building Decision Theater
Market Center Building Room 123 Request: Large display to support a high powered PC for data analysis It was also decided that the room should function as both a collaborative classroom and data processing center. The room was part of a larger project, attaching meters to gas, water, and power in several campus buildings, all feeding data to be accessed in the space
The primary display is made up of 3 InFocus 80 MondoPads being fed by an Extron DTP CrossPoint 108 4K Matrix switcher. Each MondoPad also contains its own resident PC with software for video conferencing, wireless connectivity, and annotation.
The Matrix Switcher can send any input to any of the 3 primary displays, or extend the resident PC at the podium and maintain touch control across all three displays.
There are 4 breakout locations in the room, each controlled by an Extron MLC 104 IP Plus. Each breakout location is a 70 Mondopad, and the primary podium can send any of its inputs to all 4 breakout locations simultaneously. The breakout locations have all the features of a Mondopad, as well as an HDMI and VGA & 3.5mm input.
An Extron TLP 1000MV connects to an Extron IPCP 505 control processor to control the system.

Lessons Learned and Next Steps Fully test BYOD solutions Establish support models Set campus wide design standard Solicit user feedback and design accordingly
