4 1.GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS The KCA1100 MKII Series LED Remote Display provides high-visibility and sixdigit display capability for use in a wide variety of applications. This manual provides general installation and configuration instructions for the KCA1100 MKII. The stainless steel waterproof enclosure enables the KCA1100 MKII to work in rugged environments. The detachable sunlight shelter makes the display suitable for both indoor and outdoor uses. The specially designed brackets make it possible and easy to install the KCA1100 MKII in different places such as on the ceiling, on the wall and on a pole etc. WARNING Some procedures described in this manual require work inside the display enclosure. These procedures are to be performed by qualified service person only. 1.1 WORKING ENVIRONMENT 1. Temperature: -10~40 2. Humidity: 95%R.H 3. Power supply: AC90V~260V 50-60Hz 4. NET: When enabled, the following six digits show net weight. MOTION: When this indicator lights, it means the current load is not stable. t: Measuring in tonnes kg: Measuring in kilograms 2.INSTALLATION 2.1 CONFIGURATION OF DATA COMMUNICATION The KCA1100 MKII has three kinds of communication: RS232/485, 0~20mA current loop and serial synchronous protocols. Open the cover plate at the bottom left side of the KCA1100 MKII and pull down the board, as shown in this figure. You can configure the communication protocols by changing dip switches SW 1, JP1 and JP2. 5

6 1. RS232 Protocol:(factory default protocol) Set SW 1(red), JP1 and JP2 as for RS232 communication. 2. RS485Protocol: Set SW 1(red) JP1 and JP2 as for RS485 communication. 3. 0~20mACurrent Loop: Set the SW 1 as for 0 ~ 20mA Current Loop Communication Note: When using 0-20mA current loop communication protocol, you need to power on the KCA1100 MKII first and then power on the indicator connected to the display. 2.2 POWER CABLE CONNECTION N: Neutral G: Ground Wire L: Active 6

7 2.3 COMMUNICATION TERMINALS CONNECTION The connection between the indicator and KCA1100 MKII remote display are different according to the different communication mode. 1. 8 2.4 ON-SITE INSTALLATION The KCA1100 MKII Remote Display can be installed on a wall, a pole or hung from the ceiling. The installation dimensions are: KCA1100 MKII Installation Dimensions Please refer to the suggested installation example as follows. KCA1100 MKII 8

9 3.WORKING MODE W hen the KCA1100 MKII is powered on, it enters self test mode. This is the Software version F I. 5. O. 10 If the KCA1100 MKII is connected and configured correctly, it will display the data coming from the indicator about 5~15 seconds after self test If there is anything wrong with the connection to the indicator, or wrong data from the indicator, the display will display Err - to. 12 4. MULTIPLE DISPLAY COMMUNICATIONS This feature is an optional function of KCA1100 MKII Remote Display. Please note that if you need this function, you will need to inform our Company of your purchase order to make sure this optional function is installed in the factory. With this function, you can send and display different messages onto multiple KCA1100 MK11 Remote Displays that are linked with one cable. 3.1 SETTINGS OF SW2 For multiple displaying, please set the SW2 as: SW ID OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF *** OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF ON 01 OFF OFF OFF OFF ON OFF 02 OFF OFF OFF OFF ON ON 03 ON ON ON ON ON OFF 62 ON ON ON ON ON ON *** Here, the ID can be coded from 01 to 62. 13 5. CONFIGURATION Scale selection is performed by selecting various positions on the rotary switch (S2). 14 6. SERIAL COMMUNICATIONS PARAMETERS Dip switches are used to select the required communications parameters. If the switches are changed too quickly, prior to the display completing the update, the incorrect parameters may be selected. If unsure, please press the reset button or turn the power OFF/ON. 7. UNITS OF MEASURE The KCA1100 MKII has the ability to display kg or t. To display t ensure the jumper is installed across J2 on the top of PCB. To display kg remove the jumper from pins J2 on the top of PCB. 14

15 8. EXPLANATION OF PC MODE 1 1. PC Mode 1 allows alpha and numeric messages to be sent from a PC to the KCA1100 MKII 2. If a message is sent to the KCA1100 MKII that is six characters or less, then this message will be displayed statically. 3. If a message is sent to the KCA1100 MKII that is seven characters or more, then this message will be scrolled. 4. The message to be displayed is to begin with a STX character (02 Hex [$02]), and end with an ETX character (03Hex [$03]). A typical message being sent to the display would be [$02] 12.34[$03] This would result in being displayed on the KCA To clear the display you can send either of the following: a. [$02][$03] i.e No characters just a STX and ETX. b. [$02]^^^^^^[$03] Where ^^^^^^ = spaces. 6. Due to limitations of using seven segment displays, some characters can not be displayed. Some characters will be automatically converted into lower or upper case to allow the message to be displayed. Example: Darren is displayed as DArrEn 7. The available character set is: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 A,b,C,c,D,d,E,F,g,H,h,I,I,J,j,K,k,N,O,o,P,R,r,S,T,t,U,u,Y,Z. 9. POWERUP WITH NO PARAMETERS DISPLAYED This option will allow the display to power up and instantly display a weight instead of doing a display test and then displaying the configurable parameters. To change this press the SETUP button on the Daughterboard PCB, the display will show StArtuP On or StArtuP OFF. When set to StArtuP On a display test and the configurable parameters will be displayed when power is applied. When set to StArtuP OFF a weight will be displayed immediately after power on. 10. SETUP PCB FOR KCA1100 OR KCA1100 MKII The same PCB Assembly is utilised for the KCA1100 and the KCA1100 MKII. To program the PCB for the correct model remove J3 and set rotary switch to position 0. Press the Setup button on the daughter board PCB to select: Type 1 for KCA1100 or Type 2 for KCA100 MKII. 15
