In fact, the Collins/Sikorsky alliance has resulted in the development of a common cockpit that can be used across all three major Sikorsky helicopter platforms. The creation is a true pilot s cockpit; it evolved through direct input from Sikorsky s aircrew. Collins made the investment to develop common architecture to provide Sikorsky with reduced development time, reduced pilot workload, improved reliability through reduction in display assemblies with complete training and service support. Sikorsky S-70A Rockwell Collins provides the experience and breadth of rotary wing solutions, as well as global support required for today s avionics upgrades. orking with Sikorsky, Rockwell Collins developed common cockpits in the Turkish Navy S-70B and Turkish Army S-70A by providing advanced components such as four smart 6 x 8 multifunction color displays and flight management controls. This baseline led to substantial space savings in the Austrian configuration including reducing the width of the instrument panel by 6 inches to provide improved pilot field-of-view. The number of instruments was reduced by 32 percent, reliability was improved by 237 percent and cockpit maintenance costs were decreased by $47 per hour when compared to the round dial UH-60L. Rockwell Collins navigation and communications components designed for this architecture meet commercial certification standards while being ruggedized for military configurations. By working together, Rockwell Collins and Sikorsky were able to develop a better product while achieving a substantial savings in operation, training, parts and logistics. 1

3 Sikorsky S-92 The S-92 is Sikorsky s newest medium-lift helicopter with a design that draws from a lineage of international S-70A and S-70B Naval Hawk helicopters. The cockpit has evolved to elements of an open systems architecture through integration of a power PC processor for its five new portrait 6 x 8 multifunctional flight displays. This is the first step toward a complete, open systems architecture in Sikorsky helicopters, and represents a major step in reducing overall costs, system weight and improving performance capabilities. Boeing CH-47 After proving itself in countless military, humanitarian relief and nation-building operations throughout the world, the Boeing CH-47 Chinook remains the U.S. Army s most versatile cargo helicopter. To ensure the long-term effectiveness of the CH-47, Boeing selected Rockwell Collins to provide state-of-the-art components for an improved avionics system, including two smart 6 x 8 tactical multifunction displays and four 5ATI flight displays. Bell AH-1Z Front Back The AH-1Z Cobra Attack Helicopter cockpit contains two large 6 x 8, high-resolution color multifunction displays (MFDs) in each crew station as well as two 5ATI Flight Management Displays. The large displays provide primary flight, digital map and engine instrument, cautions and advisory information. The UH-1Y Huey cockpit provides four Collins multifunctional displays common to those installed in the Cobra. The MFD-268 is a set of 6 x 8 high resolution, color, AMLCD displays in both portrait and landscape orientations. These displays support legacy military and commercial interface standards such as MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429 data buses, as well as RS-170, RS-343, PAL and STANA 3350 video. The display is designed to support legacy analog interfaces for retrofit applications as well as digital ARINC 429 and ARINC 453/708 interfaces. The display supports an extensive library of formats including ADI, HSI, Combined PFD, ARC, Map and Hover, as well as TCAS and TAS. TS versions of the FDS-255 are available. A flexible open architecture approach easily accommodates technology upgrades to meet rapidly changing requirements. HIDSS The Comanche Helmet Integrated Display Sighting System (HIDSS) employs a two-piece design, using modules containing the high value 35 x 52 degree FV binocular optic, high resolution AMLCDS (1280 x 1024 SXA), magnetic tracking sensor for the associated drive, part of the weapons and electro-optics systems. LITE EYE Kaiser is also currently developing a low cost, lightweight Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) with Head Tracking System (HTS) Lite Eye. The pilot will be able to detect targets of opportunity by slewing the sensor for targeting and interdiction. Primary flight data is also presented on a single monocle for day and night flight with the AN/AVIS-7 light intensifiers. The use of multifunction displays offers improved cockpit control and enhanced mission performance. 4

6 FLIHT DECK CNTRLS The latest addition to the Collins Control Display Unit CDU family is the color CDU The CDU-7000 retains all the popular features of the CDU-900 series CDU while providing powerful new capabilities. The CDU-7000 provides the features of the military control and functionality with commercial ARINC 739 compatibility. An embedded military P(Y)-Coded lobal Positioning System (PS) receiver/processor is an available expansion module for the CDU-900. The CDU-7000 will fit in the same panel space as the CDU-900. The pc cards are programmed in a standard PCMCIA card slot of a computer running Microsoft indows 95 operating system with the Mission Planning round Station software. Rockwell Collins has a long history of human computer interface in flight deck controls for both military and commercial applications. Integrated Hand Controller The Integrated Hand Controller (IHC) gives the operator eyes-up control of display and flight management functions via user-friendly pull-down menus. Eyes-up control of mode functions is a significant contribution to improved situational awareness. 5

Advanced features include digital signal processing technology to provide Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) in an exceptionally light and compact system. Its powerful 200-watt control is provided from either a dedicated control head or the CPU family of flight deck controls. peration enables effective over-the-horizon long range communication. ARC-220 The Rockwell Collins ARC-220 Nap-of-the-Earth (NE) aircraft communications system is an easy-to-operate, multifunctional, full digital signal processing high frequency radio for rotary wing tactical airborne applications. Embedded Automatic Link Establishment with linking protection, Electronic Counter-Counter Measures (ECCM) and combined ALE-ECCM capability are provided in both voice and data modes of operation. HF Messenger TM HF Messenger enables users to send and receive s with data files between personal computers connected to the Internet and remotely located or mobile personal computers without access to the infrastructure. The link is made with modern, state-of-the-art HF radios and high-speed data modems. Users of HF Messenger need no experience in radio operation or control, as HF Messenger hides all radio functions from the users while it flawlessly and automatically sends and receives the data from pc to pc. ARC-210 The ARC-210 V/UHF radio includes VDL Mode 2 capability for ICA SARPS compliance and is upgradeable to Mode 3. Existing capabilities include 8.33 KHz channels, Have Quick I/II, SINCARS, maritime frequencies and UHF DAMA SATCM. Airborne Data Link Processor (ADLP-100) The ADLP-100 is an airborne qualified, 1/2 ATR VME chassis, that provides the capability to receive, process and transmit Link 11 messages in accordance with STANA It also implements a correlation function between local and remote (Link 11) tracks. The ADLP interfaces to the MFD-268 based mission computer on the A/C through a MIL-STD-1553 interface for the exchange of track and AS, as well as command and control information. MDM-2202 The MDM-2202 is an airborne qualified, 1/4 ATR Data Terminal Set that implements the Link 11 waveform and protocol to allow the A/C to communicate over a Link 11 network. It supports both Conventional Link 11 (CLE) as well as Singletone Link 11 (SLE) waveforms. Collins voice and data radio equipment provides a full range of line of sight and long range communications. 6

8 SENSRS AND SYSTEMS Rockwell Collins navigation products provide protected VR/ILS operation and precision instrument approach capability. ARN-147 A standard receiver for VR/ILS, lideslope and Marker Beacon, the ARN-147 is installed in all C-130, C-141, UH-1N and UH-60 aircraft. Existing ARN-147s are upgradeable to meet ILS FM immunity requirements. New units are FM immune. ARN-149 The ARN-149 system provides Automatic Direction Finder (ADF) functions in a set that consists of a receiver, control, antenna and mount. The U.S. Air Force and Army currently use the ARN-149 in fixed and rotary wing aircraft. DF-430 Tactical Direction Finder The Rockwell Collins DF-430 is the newest generation of automatic tactical V/UHF direction finders. Thanks to its synthesized embedded receiver, the DF-430 covers the MHz AM/FM frequency band (including sonobuoy operation). As external receivers are no longer required, the DF-430 can be operated as a full stand-alone direction finder/tpi receiver. The DF-430 has been designed as a dual bus (MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429) remote controlled sensor composed of one DF antenna (ANT-430) and one receiver and processing unit (RPU-430). PS Embedded Module Collins NDI EM product line represents our commitment to the military PS market. The EM IV, our newest generation embedded receiver, was designed as a drop-in replacement for EM III and maintains form, fit and function backward compatibility. EM V is under development and offers SAASM. ARN-153 The ARN-153 is compatible with all standard TACAN digital and analog interfaces. It s also compatible with MIL-STD-1553B optional bearing computation to any TACAN capable of air-to-air DME operation. Navigation and sensor equipments are integrated into the avionics systems and controlled on the 1553 bus. 7

9 PRCESSIN CENTER/MISSIN CMPUTIN KC-135 ATM IPC Rockwell Collins is investing to reduce the size of its KC-135 Integrated Processing Center (IPC) and to certify it to helicopter environmental standards. The new system builds off the original IPC design, which is nearing production for the KC-135. The system provides greater flexibility and modularity. The IPC uses a Motorola Power PC processor. The software architecture can be partitioned such that dissimilar functions are not commingled. Because of this, military mission and civil flight management functions can be independently upgraded without the need to re-test unmodified functions. Rotorcraft Qualified IPC Type 1 6U Module The IPC modular hardware, designed to open systems standards aircraft grade IEEE 802.3, allows Line Replaceable Mode (LRM) replacement at the operator level. The IPC s scalable design is proportioned to support embedded processing for functions such as Terrain Awareness, Digital Map, Autopilot, Communication Management and Head-up and Helmet-Mounted Displays. The IPC Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN) and PSIX compliance/arinc 653 software environment uses a layered architecture based on non-proprietary commercial standards. It supports software applications and hardware modules developed by third parties and the modular design, coupled with plug-in card sets, providing mission capabilities and ease in executing future growth requirements. The new, rotorcraft qualified Integrated Processing Center will be available in two versions, Type 1 and Type 2. The Type 1 version accommodates a 6U compact PCI and the Type 2 version accommodates a 3U compact PCI. Both versions will host an integer number of cards that are based upon multiples of the standard pitch of 0.9 inches. The IPC features Ethernet connectivity and communicates internally via a compact PCI backplane.
