2 Description Performance and Scalability The RE-100 Remote Expansion Enclosure interfaces directly with the advanced memory controller of xseries 360 servers to provide high-speed, PCI- adapter expansion capability. Either the standard 3.5 M remote I/O cable or an optional 8 M Remote I/O Cable Kit can be used to connect the RE port of the host server to the remote expansion enclosure. Currently, one RE-100 Remote Expansion Enclosure can be attached to an xseries 360. The standard RE-100 Remote Expansion Enclosure configuration includes six, full-length, 64-bit Active PCI- slots controlled by three primary PCI- buses. Each primary PCI- bus controls two slots. One slot can contain a 133 MHz adapter, or both slots can contain two adapters with rated speeds up to 100 MHz. This design point supports: Three PCI- adapters running at 133 MHz Six PCI- adapters running at 100 MHz From 6 to 12 additional PCI- adapter slots can be added to the xseries 360 through installation of an RE-100 Remote Expansion Enclosure and optionally available Remote I/O PCI- 6-slot Expansion Kit.
