5 Introduction The DHCOM Premium Developer Kit 2 (PDK2) is a general development board for computer modules compliant with the DHCOM standard. A flexible extension interface also allows a touch-screen and a separate expansion board to be connected. This modular system offers a wide range of applications for the user. By selecting the appropriate DHCOM standard module, the required system performance is scalable. The customary board support packages for Linux, Android and WinCE are available. The user can fully concentrate on developing applications. Here too, DH electronics is able to support customers with its extensive know-how and user-friendly development environments for DHCOM platforms. As a one-stop provider, DH electronics would also be pleased to supply, upon request, a customised, ready-to-ship solution. 10 2.1 DHCOM (U27) Any DHCOM standard module can be plugged into the SODIMM-200 connector DHCOM power supply voltage It is possible to choose the supply voltage for the DHCOM standard module: If the resistors R106 and R107 are placed, the module is supplied by 3,3 volt (default) If the circuit under resistor R106 is ripped and resistors R104 and R105 are placed, the module is supplied by 5,0V. Beware: Do not place R106, R107 AND R104, R105 at the same time. This will destroy the development board. R06 - User Manual.docx Page 10 / 62

11 2.1.2 DHCOM current consumption measurement (X43) The PDK2 offers the possibility to measure the power consumption of the DCHOM standard module. If you want to measure the power consumption follow these instructions: Unplace resistor R311 Rip the short circuit under R311 Place resistor R311 again Measure the supply voltage of the DHCOM standard module Measure the voltage on header X43 P_dhcom = (voltage on X43 / 2) * supply voltage of the DHCOM Example: Supply voltage of the DHCOM = 3,31V Voltage on X43 = 0,94 P_dhcom = (0,94/2)*3,31 = 1,56Watt Description Pin Name IO Type Pin Number Ground GND PWR 1 Output Voltage OUT PWR 2 Table 2: Power measurement connector R06 - User Manual.docx Page 11 / 62

12 2.2 DHCOM-X (U38) Some DHCOM modules support the DHCOM-X standard. The DHCOM-X standard provides additional high speed interfaces. 2.3 SD Card slot (X1) The PDK2 provides a 4 Bit Push-Pull SD Card Slot X1 for data storage. Per default the voltage is 3.3 V. The PDK2 offers a level shifter for the SD Card signals. Because of this you don t have to consider the signal voltage of the SD Card interface of the DHCOM Standard Module 2.5 CAN Interface (X4) The PDK2 offers the connector X4 for CAN communication. Onboard is a galvanically isolated CAN transceiver that meets the specifications of the ISO standard. R06 - User Manual.docx Page 12 / 62

The Bluetooth and Standard UART are only with TTL voltage level available whereas the Full Function UART is with TTL voltage level and RS232 voltage level available. To connect UART2 and the UART3 with your host PC you can connect a TTL to USB cable (e.g. FTDI TTL-232R- 3V3) UART1 UART1 supports modem-control capability. The PLD is connected to a 24MHz crystal. The 16bit address bus and 16bit data bus from the DHCOM Module are connected to the PLD. Also the chipselects CS_A, CS_B, CS_C, CS_D and CS_E and the control signals WE (write enable) and OE (output enable) are routed to the programmable logic device. Additionally the GPIOs I, E, F, H and D are connected to the PLD. A free programmable status LED LD1 is also available. In order to program the PLD you have to establish a JTAG connection to the PLD via the connector X10. To write your own VHDL-code you can use the isplever Classic Software from Lattice ( You also need a programmer (e.g. HW-USBN-2A from Lattice) to deploy the VHDL-Code on your PLD. R06 - User Manual.docx Page 14 / 62

15 With the PLD IO connector X11 it is possible to tap the in- and outputs from the CPLD and connect new peripheral devices (e.g. SRAM). A Demo VHDL-code can be found under Per default the CPLD is programmed to route the address- and databus directly to the PLD IO connector X11. E.g.: If you don t want to connect the UART3 data lines with the UART3 connectors you have to open the Jumpers for the UART3 Interface and no signals will be routed from the SODIMM-200 connector to the UART3 connector. For standard use all signals are jumpered. With this configuration you can use all available interfaces. It is possible to design a printed board and connect this to the Jumper-Field in order to get access to the different functions (e.g. RS485-interface, I²C-ADC ). If the DHCOM GPIOs GPIO_A to GPIO_I are not enough it is possible to use the Camera Interface Pins as GPIOs. The numbers of available GPIOs increases from 9 GPIOs to 23 at most. The number of additional available GPIOs is depending on if the Camera Interface is available on the DHCOM module and how many data lines are available. 32 2.19 GPIOs The following diagram shows the available GPIOs and their different functionality. Figure 6: GPIO routing a) First in order to ensure interoperability the GPIO signals are routed to the jumper bridges. b) From the jumper bridges the GPIO signals are connected to the levelshifter. c) From the levelshifter the GPIOs A, B, C and D are routed to the Buttons and to the display. Additionally GPIO D is connected to the PLD and GPIO G is connected to the display. d) The GPIOs E, F, H and I are connected to the PLD and to the display connector too. Complementary the GPIOs E, F, H and I are connected to a buffer too. From these buffers the GPIOs can be used as outputs only. e) The GPIOs E, F, H and I are routed after the buffer to the LEDs. GPIO E, F before the buffer. GPIO I at the display connector can be used just as output! R06 - User Manual.docx Page 32 / 62

33 2.20 Reset-Button (RESET1) In order to reset the system you have to press the reset button RESET Power supply The voltage supply for the PDK2 is 24V ±10%. Board regulators generate three supply voltages: 1,5V/700mA 3,3V/5A 5V/5A The power consumed by the PDK2 largely depends on the core module used and the peripherals connected to the USB ports. The PDK2 supply voltage is connected either to the 2-way connector X23 or to the connector X24. The pin assignments of both connectors are shown in the following figures: Figure 3: Pin assignments of connectors X23 and X24 The following Phoenix plugs may be used as connectors for the voltage supply connector X23: Art. Depending on the used DHCOM the goldcap is able to back up the time and date information for 2 weeks after full charging the goldcap. R06 - User Manual.docx Page 33 / 62

34 2.23 Cooling concept DHCOM core modules with high end CPUs like i.mx6 must be preserved from thermal damage if they are running at full load.
