1 Chipkin Automation Systems A member of BACnet International CAS CAS Gateway: Inovonics DMP XR500 to BACnet- IP and Modbus-TCP Description The CAS Gateway connects to a daisy chained pair of XR500 wireless receivers through an RS485 port using the EchoStream protocol. The CAS extracts Inovonics end-device information then maps it to BACnet-IP and Modbus-TCP networks. Each XR500 will appear as a device on the BACnet-IP and the Modbus-TCP network. End-device properties such as Alarm1 and Device UID are mapped as BACnet objects belonging to the XR500 BACnet device. On the Modbus-TCP network end-device properties are mapped to input registers belonging to the XR500 Modbus device. End-device properties are record in log files which can be extracted using web APIs like JSON, XML, and REST. Hardware Specs. 3 EchoStream to BACnet-IP / Modbus-TCP Mapping End-device properties The following properties are mapped from Inovonics end-devices to BACnet objects and Modbus registers: Device Properties Human-Readable Device Type ( ie Double-Button Necklace Pendant) Device Product Code (EN1215EOL, EN1224, etc) Device UID Status/Alarm flags Alarm0 Alarm1 Alarm2 Alarm3 Low Battery Reset RF Jammed Tamper Warning Link Failure Line Power Loss Clean Me Status-changed Supervision Connection Status RF Signal Level percentage. Signal-Level/Margin of Repeaters Inovonics end-devices do not implement every available status/alarm flag. Only flags implemented by a device are mapped to its BACnet-IP / Modbus-TCP properties. For example an EN1223S single button pendant will only map Alarm0, Low Battery, Supervision, Status-changed, and Reset flags to BACnet-IP / Modbus-TCP. These are the only flags the EN1223S implements. Keeping superfluous properties out of building control networks increases network efficiency and simplifies configuration. Page 3 of 6

4 Configuration Via Web Page. Configure IP settings, end-device registration, end device labeling, logging, and other parameters. End-device Registration The CAS is a protocol gateway not a network coordinator. It does not perform any special behavior when an end-device reset flag is detected. Reset flags are mapped as BACnet / Modbus properties like any other flag (battery alarm, tamper alarm, etc). A BACnet / Modbus controller can be programmed to perform a special action when reset flags are detected. End-devices are not automatically registered to the nearest XR500 when the reset button is pressed. The CAS configuration web page presents a list of all end-devices within range of the XR500 it is connected to. An operator can choose to register enddevices to XR500 from this list. Only registered end-devices are mapped to BACnet / Modbus. It is possible for one end-device to be within range of multiple XR500. This means one end-device can be registered to multiple XR500 if an operator is not careful to avoid this. The result will be multiple objects on the building control network representing the properties of the same physical end-device.
