9 SKELEC s Dilemma An automatic load shedding panel trips the main feeders in a semi -controlled way if a fault is seen on the T&D network The grid is returned manually once the faulty feeder has been isolated, following instructions issued by the Power Station Control (PSC) T&D personnel reconfigure the network manually, opening RMU s and single switches in the field to sectionalize the fault Feeders are brought back on line manually according to load and generating capacity. Additional generators are started and synchronized as required. T&D personnel manually reconfigure the network again once the fault has cleared, following instructions issued from PSC to restore power to the entire network The whole process is very problematic and often results in further outages as load is returned too quickly for the generators to react to the increased demand.
