6 Introduction Pilz more than automation Applications within plant and machinery construction, more specifically in process engineering and technology are characterised by a high level of automation, which in turn requires a high level of safety for man, machine and the environment. As the leading supplier in conventional safety technology the PNOZ has become synonymous with the emergency stop relay Pilz uses the knowledge and experience gained over more than years to the development of safety technology for the future. The P-range of programmable safety systems has set new standards. A powerful and extensive hardware platform, together with application-specific software enables economical and universal solutions to safety-related applications. Decentralisation and networking in safety technology with afetybu p, the safe bus system, opens up a whole new world of safety technology. Take advantage of the benefits of standard networking as well as the opportunity to integrate complex field modules for a safe networking of your plant. To fulfil the different requirements for safety in plant and machinery construction or processing engineering, Pilz can provide individual, customised concepts to suit your application, support at every stage of the product life cycle and a wide, flexible range of additional services. Pilz customers know that you can, indeed should, expect that little bit more. That s why, if you have any questions at all about the described application examples, please do not hesitate to contact us. Expect more. Pilz more than automation. Technical solutions In principle the application examples can be used with other systems from the Prange and not just the system described in this manual. If you wish to use other P systems together with the application examples, we recommend you take into account the special features of the particular P, the different programmable modules and applications available (selective shutdown, afetybu p). These special features can be found in the relevant operating manual. The application examples provide an overview of the application areas for P safety systems. The user must read and use the documentation relating to the specific safety system and any modules or software blocks from the MB system (Modular Block ystem) which may be integrated in the application. The definitions of the categories in accordance with EN 9- must be regarded as guidelines and will depend on the application area and its respective regulations. Other classifications are also possible. Exclusion of liability Great care has been taken in putting together our Applications Manual. It contains information about our company as well as products and services. All statements are made with the best intentions and to the best of our knowledge and belief. However, we cannot accept liability for the accuracy and entirety of the information provided, except in the case of gross negligence. In particular it should be noted that statements do not have the legal quality of assurances or assured properties. 7

9 Emergency top Applications Category, EN 9- P Emergency stop monitoring Features Dual-channel redundancy Manual reset when the P is started up or cold started Manual reset when emergency stop button is released Failsafe standard function block used: B (E_TOP) Description Emergency stop function In this example the safety system monitors the E-top button contacts and. In the user program a failsafe standard function block B is assigned to each emergency stop button. B detects if the emergency stop button was pressed, whether incorrect input signals are present or contact synchronisation time was exceeded etc. If the emergency stop button is pressed or an error occurs, the enable output FG of the corresponding B is turned off immediately. The enable output FG will also be turned off if the P switches to TOP or when the P is started up. The signals of both enable outputs FG must be evaluated by the user program and lead to an appropriate reaction. The data word in DB of B which corresponds to the NR number will contain the error information explaining why FG was turned off. How the error is reset will depend on the operating mode being used. The parameters for the B blocks in this application example have been assigned so that when the P is cold started (P switched off and on), started up (P TOP-RUN) or after the emergency stop button has been released, a reset must be carried out by pressing (/-pulse edge at EIN). This means that the output parameter FG of B will be turned on. Rating to EN 9- Depending on the application area and its respective regulations, this connection example is suitable for applications up to and including category in accordance with EN 9-. Reason: Redundancy via dual-channel emergency stop button As both contacts on the emergency stop button are connected to different test pulses, all short circuits are detected, unless the contacts are bridged (cable from the test pulse output to the contact and the cable from the contact to the input). In the user program, a failsafe standard function block B is assigned to each rip cord switch. B detects if the assigned rip cord switch was pressed and also detects incorrect input signals, e.g. a reset button constantly operated. If the rip cord switch is operated or an error occurs, the enable output on the corresponding B is switched off immediately. In the user program, the failsafe standard function block B 7 is assigned to the N/C contacts K and K B 7 is used to monitor the feedback loop and drive the relays. A /-pulse edge at the input parameter Ein of B 7 (button ) will switch on the relay driven by output K and a /-pulse edge will switch off the relay. B 7 has extensive fault detection properties. Errors are detected such as RFK remains open and RFK remains closed. If an error occurs the enable FG and the relay driven by output K of B 7 are turned off immediately. Both contacts are also turned off if the P switches to TOP or the P is switched on. The signal at the enable output FG can be evaluated by the user program and lead to an appropriate reaction. Rating to EN 9- Depending on the application area and its respective regulations, the connection example is suitable for category applications in accordance with EN 9-. Reason: Redundancy via dual-channel feedback loop As both relay contacts are connected to different test pulses, short circuits are detected unless the contacts are bridged (cable from the test pulse output to the contact and the cable from the contact to the input). The data word in DB of B 7 which corresponds to the NR number will contain the error information explaining why FG was turned off. If an error occurs, once the error has been rectified a reset must be carried out by pressing (/-pulse edge at Ret). This means the enable output FG of B7 is turned on. Output K can also be turned on through the E-TOP enable flag (M 7.). Rating to EN 9- Depending on the application area and its respective regulations, the connection diagram is suitable for category applications in accordance with EN 9-. Reason: An internal short circuit on the outputs in the IMATIC 7 module cannot be excluded. This error will not be detected because the outputs are not uploaded. ticking or welding of contact K will not be detected. Blocking of valve Y will not be detected. 105 ensor Applications Category, EN 9- P Monitoring AOPD muting Features Dual-channel redundant AOPD Manual reset when the P is started up or cold started Reset lock Failsafe standard function block used B 7 (MUTING) Description Monitoring AOPD muting In this example the safety system monitors the muting of an active optoelectronic protective device (AOPD). Muting is a temporary suspension of the AOPD safety function. It is used when conveyed material (e.g. palettes) must pass through the protected field. Muting is started and ended using muting sensors, which must be positioned before and after the AOPD. In this example there are two sensors ( and ) arranged in sequence and are used for muting when entering the danger zone. Two additional muting sensors ( and ) are positioned at the same height to the left and right of the AOPD and are used for muting when leaving the danger zone. Muting stauts is displayed using lamps. In the user program, the failsafe standard function block B 7 is assigned to the short-circuit protected semiconductor outputs on the AOPD and the muting sensors. B 7 detects if a protected field is broken (AOPD interrupted while muting is not active), and incorrect input signals such as non-feasible signals of the muting sensors. If the protected field is broken and this was unauthorised or an error occurs, the enable output ENBL of B 7 is turned off immediately. The enable output ENBL is also turned off when the P switches to TOP. The signal at the enable output ENBL must be evaluated by the user program and lead to an appropriate reaction. The data word in DB of B 7 which corresponds to the NR number will contain the error information explaining why the ENBL was turned off. In this application example, the parameters for B 7 have been assigned so that when the P is cold started (P switched off and on) or when it is started up (P TOP-RUN), a reset is required by operating a key switch (/-pulse edge at RET). This means the ENBL of B 7 will be turned on. If the AOPD is interrupted and this was unauthorised, the protected field must be cleared (reset) and acknowledged. 109 ensor Applications Category, EN 9- afetybu p Monitoring AOPD muting Features Dual-channel redundant AOPD Manual reset when the P is started up or cold started Reset lock Failsafe standard function block used B 7 (MUTING) Description Monitoring AOPD muting In this example, the P on the safe bus system afetybu p monitors the muting of an active optoelectronic protective device (AOPD). FB is used to check for a break in the lamp s filament. If the filament is broken, FB s enable output FG will be reset. When the fault has been rectified, the enable output can be reset by operating the key switch. Rating to EN 9- Depending on the application area and its respective regulations, the connection example is suitable for category applications in accordance with EN 9-. 143 Actuator Applications Category, EN 9- P Driving/monitoring a press safety valve Features Dual-channel redundancy Monitors valve postion Failsafe standard function block used: B (PV_) Description Driving and monitoring function In this example the safety system controls and monitors a press safety value (dual valves). In the user program the failsafe standard function block B is assigned to the press safety valve. B controls the valves via outputs Y and Y. Valve output Y switches one P cycle later than Y (short circuit detection). A separate input ( and ) is available for each valve to acknowledge the valve position. B monitors the operating pressure of the compressed air supply (input parameter AIR). The input frequency of the valve coils can be determined via input parameter Onq. If the acknowledgements from and occur via switch contacts, these must be supplied with test pulses via the P (Onq = ). If the acknowledgements from and occur via initiators, the signal lines from the initiators must be carried in separate cables. This will ensure that a short cannot occur between the two signal lines (Onq = ). Different reaction times can be set at B for switching on and off (TOn and TOff). This is necessary as the reaction time of the safety valve during switch off determines the stopping time of the press on an emergency stop. The stopping time determines the safety distance to the tool. The valve is switched on via a /-pulse edge at input parameter Ein of B, and switched off via a /-edge. B has extensive fault detection properties. The B automatically detects incorrect valve positions etc. If an error is detected, the enable output FG and the valve outputs Y and Y of B are turned off immediately. The outputs are also turned off via the command witch-off (/-pulse edge at EIN ), when the P swtiches to TOP and when the P is switched on. The signal at the enable input FG must be evaluated by the user program and lead to an appropriate reaction. The data word in DB of B which corresponds to the NR number will contain the error information explaining why FG was turned off. If an error occurs, the error must be reset by pressing (/-pulse edge at Ret) once the error has been removed, so that the enable output FG of B will be turned on again. Errors can only be reset if the valve is in its start position. 151 Actuator Applications Category, EN 9- P Monitoring the operating range Features Dual-channel redundancy Automatic reset when the P is started up or cold started Automatic reset when the protected area is clear Failsafe standard function block used: B (T_K) Description Monitoring the operating range In robot cells that include manual work areas, for example, situations must be prevented in which a person occupied in the manual work area could be injured by the robot as it continues to work in parallel. For this reason, the robot s main axis is fitted with zone interrogators. These are generally cam tracks, which are polled via end switches. When everything is in order, i.e. the robot is outside the protected manual work area, the end switch supplies a -signal. In this example, the safety system monitors the two non-contact proximity switches and. B shuts down if or switches to. If one channel switches from -- while the other channel shows a constant, B will detect this as an error. How the error is reset will depend on the operating mode that is set on B. The parameters for B in this application example have been assigned so that an automatic reset will occur when the P is cold started (P switched off and on), started up (P TOP-RUN after a fault has been rectified) or after signals at both inputs have switched to. This means that output parameter FG of B will be turned on. 155 Actuator Applications Category, EN 9- P Monitoring a frequency converter Features Dual-channel Failsafe standard function block used: B7 (RFK_K) Description Frequency converter monitoring function In this example the safety system monitors the two main contactors that separate the frequency converter from the drive. For stop category, the potentially dangerous movements must be brought to a halt before the hazardous areas can be reached. If a safety gate is opened or another safety device is activated, auxiliary contactactor K is used to control the drive M down to standstill via the frequency converter A. The drive is then isolated from the frequency converter. If necessary, a brake must be used if there is a long overrun. The programmable safety system monitors the contacts on both contactors K and K7. In the user program, the failsafe standard function block B 7 is assigned to the N/C contacts K and K7. In addition to monitoring the feedback loop, B7 also drives the contactors. Output K, which drives the contactors, is turned on with a /-pulse edge at input parameter Ein of B 7 (flag. enable delay), and off with a /-pulse edge. B 7 has extensive fault detection properties. Errors are detected such as RFK remains open and RFK remains closed. If an error occurs the enable FG and the relay driven by output K of B 7 are turned off immediately. Both outputs are also turned off if the P switches to TOP or the P is switched on. The signal at the enable output FG can be evaluated by the user program and lead to an appropriate reaction. The data word in DB of B 7 which corresponds to the NR number will contain information explaining why FG was turned off. If an error occurs, a reset must be carried out by pressing (/-pulse edge at Ret). This means the enable output FG of B 7 is turned on. Output K can be turned on again by enabling the E-TOP flag. Rating to EN 9- Depending on the application area and its respective regulations, this connection example is suitable for category applications in accordance with EN 9-. Reason: Redundancy through dual-channel shutdown route The relay contacts connected in series are supplied with test pulses, so all short circuits will be detected. Exception: if both contacts are bridged simultaneously (cable between test pulse and contact with cable between contact and input). All shorts across contacts and short circuits to VDC are detected. In the user program, the failsafe standard function block B 9 is assigned to the enabling switch. B9 detects if the N/O contact on the enabling switch is defective, and also detects faulty input signals, such as a reset button that is constantly operated. If the enabling switch is fully depressed (E-TOP) or an error occurs, the enable output ENBL of B 9 is turned off immediately. The signal at the enable output ENBL can be evaluated by the user program and lead to an appropriate reaction. The data word in DB of B 7 which corresponds to the NR number will contain the error information explaining why ENBL was turned off. How the error is reset will depend on the operating mode that is set on B 9.
