3 Concept Summary Detect cars going in and out of N lot System will add or subtract from the count to give a new count If available spaces reaches 0, the lot status indicator will blink red When available spaces is above 0, the lot status indicator will blink green User can retrieve lot data via SD card Lot size will be programmable and resettable Numpad and display will allow system control by user System runs off grid on solar and wind power

17 Electrical System Overview System requires >99% uptime Solar panel and wind turbine provides power redundancy with battery backup Primary 12V power rail supplies energy for indication systems Secondary power rails provide power for microcontroller (8V) and sensor electronics (5V) Also provides physical interconnections for data transmission between sensors and user interface

18 Electrical System Overview Indication Components LED Blinking Circuit show status of the parking lot 7 Segment Display show the number of available spots LED Blinking Circuit Function Light up green LEDs when there is at minimum one free spot in the lot (the lot is open) and switch to red LEDs when there are no free spots left (the lot is closed) 7 Segment Display Function Show the number of available spots left in the parking lot, based on the data sent from microcontroller

Set lot capacity 8. Free function 3. Set current lot usage 9. About parking monitor 4. Close lot (RED) 5. Mount SD card Testing will be done to refine 6. Eject SD card this user interface.

30 Software Testing Results No breakpoint functionality available: Maria Mole IDE was used AVR plugin for Visual Studio is recommended LED s were used to check output signals. Road tube sensors: Triggered interrupts correctly by the sensors. But cars inconsistently triggered the sensors.

31 Software Testing Results SD Card, Real Time Clock: Getting these modules working was more difficult than anticipated. Priority was given to core functionality. LCD and Number pad for data entry: Priority was given to core functionality.

33 Improvements/Future Work Make solar panel mount lighter Develop better way of securing road tube to road Make less likely to cause tripping. Move closer to crosswalk / sidewalk. Monitor indicator and seven segment display for rust from humidity possibly put in a breather hole Add wireless connectivity, or finish user interface.
