Designed to emulate a simple keypad, the LCC s minimal functionality bars it from operating as a standalone controller, and its installation in a system does not supplant CDS control. Rather, Waters designed the LCC to prepare system modules for operation, define initial conditions, and run ACQUITY UPLC system diagnostic tests. These basic functions are rapidly performed, even when a system is remote from the software control and acquisition workstation or LAC/E 3 module or when network control is unavailable. The LCC does not require compliance qualification as a computer or workstation would for these reasons: It cannot run methods or samples. It accesses instruments and systems only when they are not running. It does not store data, reporting it only as real-time sample status and diagnostic test results , Rev. 2 ACQUITY UPLC systems located near a workstation do not usually require an LCC. However, the LCC is compatible with all ACQUITY UPLC systems that consist solely of ethernet devices. The LCC works with ACQUITY UPLC systems controlled by manufacturers other than Waters. Refer to the release notes for specific configurations. Operation in a GXP regulated environment For ACQUITY UPLC systems using validated Empower networks and operating in a GXP regulated environment, the client and remote workstation configurations do not change, nor do the firmware files of a system instrument or device. The LCC software requires only that you install it on a LAC/E 3 module or workstation. Recommendation: Perform these procedures: verify files and checksum. Confirm the LCC starts. Pharmaceutical manufacturing cgmps ( CFR.63 and.67) require that any new analytical instrument or system be shown as fit for intended use. You must qualify the installation and performance of a newly obtained analytical instrument or system that is directly controlled by the application software or an instrument driver. You need not requalify an entire data system, however, unless required to do so by your organization s standard operating procedure (SOP). For example, if you add an LCC to an established Empower 5 or 5 installation, you, or a Waters service engineer, must first qualify the LCC s installation and then its performance. Requalifying the entire ACQUITY UPLC system is unnecessary unless your SOP requires you to do so. Waters recommends you check system suitability or calibration curves from the next run. The LCC is designed to withstand only incidental exposure to solvents. The LCC does not contain user-serviceable components. To install the LCC. Unpack the components, and make sure all parts in the kit list are accounted for. 4 Requirement: If the network switch is not equipped with an LCC connector, obtain the LCC Upgrade kit.. Place the cradle onto the bracket, and tighten the two captive screws with the Phillips-head screwdriver. 3 Bracket Cradle 3 Sample manager (in the system you want to control with the LCC) Sample manager window Tip: To ensure the door opens fully, center the bracket in the window. 3. Insert the bottom edge of the bracket, between the window and the edge of the bottom frame on the sample manager door.. Press the top of the bracket slightly, and insert it between the window and the edge of the top frame on the door. Result: The bracket springs into place. 5. Connect the LCC-end of a cable to the LCC port at the bottom of the LCC. Warning: To avoid electric shock, exercise caution when installing the LCC Y-cable or LCC interconnect cable onto the LCC or removing the cable from the LCC to prevent contacting connector pins with conductive surfaces. For a network switch with the LCC connector, use the LCC cable. For all other network switches, use the LCC Y-cable (upgrade kit). LCC port USB port (for future use)

5 6. Slide the LCC into the cradle. Caution: Always use the door handle to open and close the sample manager door. Avoid using excessive force when inserting or removing the LCC from the bracket. 7. Route the cable between the binary solvent manager and the sample manager. Tip: If possible, lift the sample manager slightly and route the cable to the inside of the sample manager s foot. Recommendation: Install the software before connecting the cable to the network switch. 8. Install the LCC software on the host controller for the acquisition system you are connecting to, such as a LAC/E 3 module or Empower workstation. a. Power-off the workstation, and then restart it. b. Insert the LCC Installation CD into the CD drive. Tip: If the software fails to start, double-click the Setup.exe file. c. Click Install/upgrade > Next. d. Click ACQUITY UPLC Local Console Controller > Next > Yes. e. Click Finish. ACQUITY UPLC Local Console Controller Instructions 5

6 9. Connect the cable to the network switch: If the network switch is equipped with an LCC connector, connect the large end of the LCC interconnect cable to the LCC connector. Network switch with an LCC connector If the network switch is not equipped with an LCC connector, connect the LCC Y-cable and the -V power supply as follows: Connect the Ethernet end of the LCC Y-cable to any Ethernet port. Connect the large, round power input end of the LCC Y-cable to the round end of the cable that is attached to the -V power supply. Connect the power cable to the -V power supply and to a power outlet. If the LCC software does not start, remove the LCC cable or LCC Y-cable from the network switch, and then reconnect it. Requirement: Empower requires you to define at least one system online. 7 Navigating with the LCC On an ACQUITY UPLC system, the LCC emulates instrument control panels. When the status bar says OK, the system is ready to use. Using the LCC buttons and keys Screen display Shows status, menus, instrument list, and parameter settings. -way navigation button Selects instruments by pressing the left or right edge of the -way navigation button; pressing up (top edge) or down (bottom edge) opens the selected instrument s menu Accept button Performs an action, indicates OK, or accepts a dialog box. Cancel button Stops an action, indicates Cancel, or dismisses a dialog box. 5 Numeric keys Edit parameters and open menus. System status screen 3 System status bar Selection panel or context area Shows the ACQUITY status. Green indicates no errors. Activates parameters so that you can edit their settings. Press Up on the -way navigation button, and then select Parameter entry. Active parameters are blue and underlined. 3 Control bar A cyclical list of the system and instruments.
