Based upon the upcoming challenges HAAD will need a storage solution that: Consolidates storage to optimize utilization, and standardizes technology to reduce complexity Meets 24 x 7 availability requirements Provides non-disruptive scalability of capacity, connectivity, and performance Delivers predictable performance for a wide range of application workloads Support Multiple Service Levels through Automated Tiering and Quality of Service Enables Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) based on flexible tiered storage options to optimize service levels while lowering total costs of ownership (TCO) Allows HAAD to meet the current and future storage requirements SAN Storage Solution Requirements Below is an overview of the required solution: a- Storage Array HAAD will require a storage system to be installed in the Main Site or DR site configured with 60 TB usable Capacity as follows: 52TB FC usable capacity using FC (fibre Channel) drives for the high performance requirements. 8 TB usable capacity using SATA drives for the moderate performance requirements, test and development. Virtual Provision Snapshot and Clones for local Protection VMWare VCenter Integration. b- SAN Fabric Main Site Two SAN Switches with 8GB FC Ports each configured with 16 Ports, scalable to 24 FC ports. 8 6.2.4 Remote Replication HAAD is looking for bandwidth efficient remote replication solution for Disaster recovery. The solution should have application level integration and should maintain a consistent copy of data at the remote site; consistency should be across multiple volumes if required. The solution should also allow recovery to ANY Point in Time Disaster Recovery Solution The DR solution should enable HAAD to continue their critical business operations/functions, which are dependent on the IT Infrastructure, during and after a disaster/disruption to the Head Office DC. HAAD s DR Site is hosted in the Etisalat data centre in Al-Ain city. The solution being proposed by the vendors should be in conjunction with the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) values provided later in this document Application Delivery Solution for the head office The DC solution should enable HAAD to have a redundant/clustered IT environment/infrastructure in the main Head Office DC in order to continue their critical business operations/functions if any critical IT component fails or in an event of disruption to the normal operations of the DC WAN Optimization solution The WAN optimization should consider resilient and optimized application delivery for DC users in case of a partial failure within the HO DC as well as smooth and optimized replication of data between the HO DC and DR site on a daily basis Vendors should also propose an optional solution for branch to DC WAN optimization with the following information in mind regarding branch office connectivity: Site/Branch WAN link to HO # of users DR site (Al-Ain) 100 Mbps - Al-Ain 4 Mbps 50 Western Region 4 Mbps 40 Najda Street (Abu Dhabi) 4 Mbps 40 Al-Mafraq 4 Mbps SAN Storage Requirements & Capabilities: The proposed solution should provide 8 Gb/s FC AND 1Gb/s iscsi front-end connectivity. The proposed storage should support Enterprise Flash drives offering Tier 0 storage as an optional. The proposed storage should provide multiple service level through storage tiering. The proposed storage must be configured with min 6GB Cache and Scalable to 2TB Cache. The proposed storage should have hot swappable and redundant hard drives, fans, power supplies, I/O modules and stand-by power with No Single Point of Failure. 9 The proposed storage should Include Host based Multipath Software to manage the Failover and Load balancing for the SAN connected Servers. The proposed storage should support data-in-place upgrade to higher model within the same mid-range model family for future growth The proposed storage should support full data protection upon power failure. All pending write data must be automatically written to disk before the disk system is powered off, and the platform must provide sufficient battery power to complete this function. The proposed storage should support thin provisioning (virtual provisioning). The proposed storage should include all licenses to provide FC, ISCSI connectivity with no requirement for additional fees or licensing. Enterprise infrastructure Storage with virtualization-aware capabilities deliver simple automation to enable end-to-end virtual-to-physical mapping of physical storage and servers, provide End-to-end visibility and control from a single management screen Host based Multipath Software to manage the Failover and Load balancing for VMs in virtual environment that Leverages all channels for load-balancing and failover for high and predictable performance levels Local Protection and Remote replication Requirements & Capabilities As per latest Technologies available in the market which will cover all the listed servers (physical and Virtual) that require a backup. The bidder shall explain how a specific LUN can be migrated online from one disk group to another that could be of different disk size/speed and different RAID level. Storage system shall have the ability to expand an existing LUN online through striping or concatenation, this shall increase performance capabilities by allowing volume to span a large number of drives and enable better capacity utilization by nondisruptively expanding capacity anywhere in the array. Or Disk Library as mentioned in section Replication solution Is already included in section Backup solution Backup infrastructure design should formulate the following blueprints: - Backup solution should be a complete turnkey solution including backup software and hardware. - Backup solution must provide flexible DR options including replication of backup data to DR site or making tape copies of backup data which can be transported to DR site. - Application aware backup agents to allow consistent hot backup of applications such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, Exchange, Active Directory and VMware. - Exchange agent should provide backup and recovery of mail server and mailboxes. - No additional cost for backup agents and application aware backup agents. - Consulting best practice to achieve information protection and business continuity. Backup solution must be a backup to disk solution with the option to make a copy of backup data to tape if needed. Backup solution must be a turnkey solution including backup software and hardware as an appliance. There should be no additional software or hardware needed to complete the solution. Backup data must be broken into sub-file variable length data segments for optimum efficiency and savings. Segment size should be on average around 24KB in size. Before writing segments to disk, backup software must compress chunks as well. Must provide fast, efficient daily full backups. Must reduce backup impact on client CPU. Performance / Reliability / Scalability Backup to disk storage must utilize scalable grid architecture with high availability features built-in. There should be no need to add external clustering technology to make the solution highly available. Backup to disk storage must be highly available and not have any single point of failure. Must automatically provide daily backup server integrity checks. Must automatically provide daily verification that backup data is fully recoverable. Integration and Interoperability Must support key client operating systems (Windows, UNIX and Linux) and applications (Oracle, SQL Server, Exchange, SharePoint and Active Directory).
