Overview Testing the Module Preparing the Module Shutting Down the Operating System Shutting Down (VOS) This installation guide explains how to remove the existing control panel and control panel cable from an XA2000 or XA/R module and replace it with the module control panel along with a new cable. The module control panel is installed in the field when the control panel has failed and a replacement is ordered. This guide provides installation procedures for ac as well as dc modules. Prior to installing the module control panel, module operation should be verified. To do this go in to analyze_system and do a list_boards long and a power_summary. If any components are highlighted in the list or there is a problem ensure that the problem is either repaired or a call is opened before proceeding with this installation procedure. To prepare the module for the installation procedure, you must shut down the operating system and power down the module. This subsection contains information on how to shut down the operating system for both VOS and FTX. Shut down the VOS operating system by entering shutdown on the console or by pressing the SHUTDOWN button on the control panel. CAUTION: If you shutdown the module by typing the shutdown command, you must not include the reboot argument to ensure the module remains powered down. Shutting Down (FTX) Shut down the FTX operating system by entering init 0 (requires privileged access) and pressing RETURN or by pressing the SHUTDOWN button on the control panel. If you enter init 0, wait for the module to power down. After the message The system is down has appeared, the module is powered down one or two seconds later. Wait until all the LEDs are off. If you use the shutdown switch on the control panel, be sure to press and hold the switch until the status indicator displays the message Shutdown request. 10 Powering Down the Module Powering Down AC Modules This section contains power down procedures for ac and dc modules. To power down an ac module, perform the following procedure: 1. Unlock and open the cabinet s front and rear doors. 2. Place the bulk power supply circuit breakers in the OFF (0) position. (See Figure 1.) 3. Disconnect both ac power cords. WARNING: To prevent personal injury and possible equipment damage, ensure that the circuit breakers are in the OFF (0) position and the power cords are disconnected. Powering Down DC Modules To power down a dc module, perform the following procedure: 1. Unlock and open the cabinet s front and rear doors. 2. Place the dc power control module circuit breakers in the OFF (0) position. (See Figure 2.) 2 Module Control Panel Installation Guide (HI )
Figure 2. DC Control Module Circuit Breaker 3. Disconnect both dc power cords by turning the connector handle counterclockwise. (See Figure 3.) Figure 3. Disconnecting DC Power Cords Module Control Panel Installation Guide (HI ) 3
WARNING: To prevent personal injury and possible equipment damage, ensure that the circuit breakers are in the OFF (0) position and the power cords are disconnected. Removal Procedures Control Panel Removal This section explains how to remove the control panel and control panel cable. To remove the control panel from an XA2000 or XA/R module, perform the following procedure: 1. Remove the control panel from the door (XA2000 modules) or from the cabinet (XA/R modules). 14 3. Remove the control panel mounting bracket from the cabinet (XA2000 modules only). (See Figure 7.) Figure 7. Removing the Mounting Bracket (XA2000 Modules) NOTE: In XA/R modules, remove the plastic spacer from the door. It is not used with the module control panel. Control Panel Cable Removal Side Panel Removal This subsection contains information on how to remove the processor cabinet s side panel, power section cover, and control panel cable from an XA2000 or XA/R module. Both ac and dc module information is provided. The processor cabinet s side panel should be removed before removing the control panel cable. To remove the side panel, rotate the four cabinet latches. (See Figure 8.) Grasp the side panel and pull it away from the module. NOTE: If there is a peripheral cabinet to the left of the processor cabinet, the installation procedure is easier to perform if the cabinets are detached. 6 Module Control Panel Installation Guide (HI )
(Rear View) Figure 8. Removing the Cabinet s Side Panel Power Section Cover Removal Power Section Cover (AC Modules) This subsection provides information on how to remove the power section cover for both ac and dc modules. To remove the ac power section cover, remove the nine Phillips screws that secure the power section cover and the StrataLINK bulkhead to the cabinet. (See Figure 9.) Figure 9. Removing the Power Section Cover (AC Modules) Module Control Panel Installation Guide (HI ) 7
NOTE: The XA/R Model 20 utilizes a backpanel plate that is removed as shown in Figure 10. Figure 10. Removing the XA/R Model 20 Backpanel Plate Power Section Cover (DC Modules) To remove the dc power section cover, perform the following procedure: 8 Module Control Panel Installation Guide (HI )

Control Panel Cable Routing NOTE: On XA/R systems (except Model 20), you may have to remove the odd (top) bulk power supply before removing the control panel cable. Cable Removal (DC Modules) To remove the control panel cable, perform the following procedure: 1. Disconnect the control panel cable from the J008 connectors on the DC Interconnect PCBs. (See Figure 17.) 12 Module Control Panel Installation Guide (HI )
Figure 17. Disconnecting the Control Panel Cable (DC Modules) 2. Remove the cable from the cabinet. Figure 16 shows examples of typical cable routing. Installation Unpacking Control Panel Cable Installation Control Panel Cable Installation (AC Modules) This section provides unpacking information as well as installation procedures for the control panel cable and the control panel. There are two upgrade kits available (AK and AK ). Unpack the upgrade kit and verify the contents against the packing slip. The kit should contain the assembled control panel, mounting brackets, and the control panel cable. This subsection contains control panel cable installation procedures for XA2000 and XA/R modules. Both ac and dc module information is provided. To install the control panel cable in ac modules, perform the following procedure: 1. Route the control panel cable through the module. Be sure to allow enough slack on XA/R modules to connect it to the control panel when it is mounted in the door. See the routing examples shown in Figure 16. NOTE: Be sure to route the cable so that the control panel connector is exiting through the access hole on the cabinet. Module Control Panel Installation Guide (HI ) 13
2. Connect the other end of control panel cable to the J008 connector on the lower power backpanel or to the backpanel (XA/R Model 20). See Figure 14 and Figure 15.) NOTE: The cable shipped as part of the installation kit will have two J008 connectors (one connector is tied to the cable). On ac modules only one connector is required. 3. Replace the power section cover. 4. Replace the cabinet side panel or reconnect the cabinets. 5. Connect the ac power cords. Control Panel Cable Installation (DC Modules) To install the control panel cable in dc modules, perform the following procedure: 1. Route the control panel cable through the module. Be sure to allow enough slack to connect it to the control panel when it is mounted in the door. See the routing example shown in Figure 16. NOTE: Be sure to route the cable so that the control panel connector is exiting through the access hole on the cabinet. 2.
