13 ABC News Satellite Access Procedures Uplinks accessing ABC News satellite inventory should follow these guidelines PRE-ACCESS CHECKS 1. Double check the upconvertor's center frequency. 2. Double check the transmit Polarity. 3. Double check the digital encoder for the proper data rate, FEC and transmit frequency. 4. For analog transmissions, double check the modulator's deviation (half, full, etc.) ACCESS PROCEDURES 1. Call the appropriate access center listed below. - Intelsat for all Intelsat Americas satellites - PanAmSat for all Galaxy, SBS and PanAmSat satellites - SES Americom for all AMC satellites AMC 9 only AMC 5, AMC AMC Say your name and your company or call letters. 3. Identify which satellite and transponder/channel you would like to access. 4. Listen for the access operator to confirm frequency and transmit polarity. Check once again that your settings are correct before you transmit. 5. For digital transmissions, you can come up with a modulated carrier if you wish. You can also come up at your nominal transmit power for a digital feed. 6. For analog transmissions, you MUST come up with clean carrier at low power. 7. Once the access operator has checked your cross pole, for analog you will be asked to modulate. For digital signals, you will be told you are good to start your feed. 8. Double check that you can see your return signal at your uplink site. 9. Once your feed is completed, you DO NOT need to call the access center with a goodnight for ABC News transmissions. These procedures should be followed for every transmission. ABC News strives to provide a quick, efficient and interference-free service for our stations.
