The switch operation should be smooth, and without interruption Verify Voltage Detection First make sure the rated voltage of the transfer switch on the nameplate is the same as the rated voltages of both power supply sources. Connect Source I live power supply source to the transfer switch. Source I Indication LED will be on (green). Then disconnect Source I by opening the upstream circuit breaker, and repeat with Source II; the Source II Indication LED will be on (green). This ensures that the source wiring is correct. Figure 4-1 LED Light Indication! DANGER When measuring voltage of power sources to ensure it matches the switch nameplate rating, do not touch the terminals or copper bars of the transfer switch, otherwise it could result in death, or serious injury Automatic Operation Test This is used to test the ATS in automatic operation mode and operate the transfer switch automatically. 1) Connect Source I live power supply source to the transfer switch by close the upstream circuit breaker. The Transfer Switch should transfer to Sources I position. Then disconnect Source I by opening the upstream circuit breaker. 2) Connect Source II live power supply source to the transfer switch by close the upstream circuit breaker. The Transfer Switch should transfer to Sources II position. Then disconnect Source II by opening the upstream circuit breaker. ASCO Series 230 A2ADTL Automatic Transfer Switch User Manual

26 22 Chapter 4 Maintenance And Troubleshooting 3) Connect Source I and Source II live power supply source to the transfer switch by close the upstream circuit breaker, finished the test. 4.2 Maintenance To ensure consistent reliability of the transfer switch to make sure it is operating normally, regular maintenance testing should be conducted. It is recommended to do so once every three months. 4.3 Common Troubleshooting Table 4-1 Troubleshooting Guideline Run LED Off Troubleshooting Issues ALARM LED Constantly on or flashing No response in auto mode The handle cannot be used to operate the switch manually. Once handle is inserted, one cannot operate the handle The AUTO/MANUAL switch cannot be set to 'AUTO' Position The padlock pull-tab cannot be pulled up Recommended Action Check if there is normal voltage in the power input port Check power supply Check DIP Switch 1 Bit 1,Bit 2 setting Controller may be damaged, please contact your authorized Service provider representatives. C heck if Source I or Source II is available. If the Alarm LED is still flashing, this indicates that there is a switch failure. Cycling any DIP switch Bit will clear the error. Be sure to return the Bit to its original intended position. If Alarm indication occurs often, it indicates that the transfer switch may have a more serious issue, please contact your authorized Service representative. Check if the AUTO/MANUAL switch is in 'AUTO' Position. Check if the wiring is routed correctly Check if the power supply meets the rated voltage range. Check if the AUTO/MANUAL switch is in 'MANUAL' Position Check if the transfer switch has been padlocked. Check if the handle is turning in the correct direction based on Chapter 3.4. Check if operator is applying enough force to handle (recommended operating torque is typically less than 2 N m and never more than 4 N m) Check to make sure the handle has been removed from the handle slot. Check to make sure the padlock pull-tab has been pushed all the way down to the original unlocked position. Check if OFF is displayed in the position indicator window. Check to make sure the AUTO/MANUAL cover is in the 'MANUAL' Position For all other issues, please contact your authorized Service provider. ASCO Series 230 A2ADTL Transfer Switch User Manual

27 Appendix 1 Surge Protection Device 23 Appendix 1 Surge Protection Device 1. The Series 230 Automatic Transfer Switch must be protected against frequent voltage surges or power anomalies by installing an upstream Surge Protection Device (SPD) before connecting to a live Source I and Source II. It is recommended that the SPD wire connections use the V-shaped wiring method shown in Appended Figure 1. When limited by practical conditions, if it is difficult to adopt V-shaped wiring, the direct-parallel-connection method shown in Appended Figure 2 may also be used. It is very important that the connection wire should be as short as possible (less than 0.5m) when using direct-parallel-connection method to achieve better protective performance. 2. The connection wires should be multi-core copper wire with a cross-sectional area greater than 10mm 2 (AWG6). 3. Appropriate MCB or Fuse should be serial-connected to the front-end of the SPD for AC power supply. The MCB should have the C tripping characteristic. 4. The Source power supplies should be disconnected when installing SPD s. Live installation is prohibited. 5. While an SPD may not need special maintenance, it is recommended that one periodically checks whether the indicators of the SPD are functioning normally and that the SPD is operating in accordance with the manufacturer s requirements. 6. The Wiring method shown in Appended Figure 3 is forbidden. If a previously installed SPD is wired similar to Appended Figure 3, the wiring needs to be modified to Appended Figure 1 or Appended Figure 2.
