2 What is LEAF? LEAF is a new program that focuses on increasing energy efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing processes in Nova Scotia. It concentrates on consultant-based assessments that investigate productivity (LEAN) potential, energy savings and environmental impacts. The program also includes educational sessions that will be done throughout the province and will produce a database of actual effective practices and results. The targeted outcome of the program is to help clients apply for further sources of funding and to develop proactive solutions for implementation of recommendations. Why should I participate in the LEAF program? Learn how to increase productivity and competitiveness Energy saving solutions Access an array of available energy retrofit programs Find ways to reduce your firm s environmental footprint LEAF Program For an energy assessment, an initial plant visit will be conducted by a qualified consultant - free of charge. Consultant efficiency audits with productivity (LEAN), energy, and/or environment focus, worth $6,000, of which 75 per cent of the cost will be covered under the program (25 per cent will be paid by the client company), $1,500. Target clients are small and medium-sized enterprises in the manufacturing and export industries that would be eligible for energy efficiency, investment and other related programs. CME s dedicated interactive website will provide information and registration for clients and consultants, links to related programs and updates on the program. 4 Guest Speakers Malcolm B. Marston, P. Eng., LEED AP Environmental Management Specialist of Dillon Consulting Malcolm is an environmental management specialist with over 20 years of consulting experience. He holds a B.Sc. (Civil Engineering) from the University of New Brunswick. He was a certified environmental auditor from 1998 until 2008 and in 2009 obtained the LEED Accredited Professional designation. Most recently, Malcolm led and was one of two consultants that performed ISO environmental management system (EMS) implementations in a coaching, training, facilitation, auditing and document preparation role at more than 10 major food manufacturing facilities across Canada and the US. Malcolm has experience in a number of commercial and industrial sectors through performing environmental compliance audits of over 40 electric utility, pulp and paper, forestry, laboratory, airport, mining, port and government facilities in eastern Canada (including Ontario) and Maine. He also led EMS implementations in the same capacity at four large federal government facilities in Atlantic Canada. Malcolm provided advice and performed upgrades for DND for EMSs at CFB Gagetown (largest military base in Canada) and the Land Force Atlantic Area which includes several military operations with varied operations. Additional industrial experience includes leading an environmental risk review of a major port facility as part of ownership transfer and financing worth over one billion dollars. Jeff Knapp, Manager, Commercial & Industrial Custom Program of Nova Scotia Power Inc. Jeff has over 25 years experience in the industrial and manufacturing sectors. Areas of responsibility and interest have included industrial and manufacturing engineering, design engineering, general management, operations management, and engineering consulting. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick, and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia. Jeff currently lives in Port Williams with his wife Janice and their two teenage children, Lindsay and Andrew.

5 Andrew Hardman, P.Eng, Owner - Lean Results Consulting Andrew is a Degreed Professional Industrial Engineer, a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (APENS) and has been a practicing Industrial Engineer since Experience includes: Facilitating the implementation of new production and management processes for small, medium and large service organizations and manufactures Plant Operations Management Quality Systems (ISO 9000) implementation Health and Safety (ergonomics) Construction management Sales organizations Service organizations Andrew is certified as a Lean LBC-Sensei by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Association of Manufacturing Excellence and Shingo Prize and has a background in Six Sigma methodology. We believe in engaging and motivating your workforce to improve faster than your competition. Dale Robertson, P.Eng, Owner - Enerscan Consultants Ltd. Dale Robertson became a Professional Engineer in 1980 and a Certified Management Consultant in He has worked in the field of energy management for almost 30 years. Through his consulting firm, Enerscan Consultants Ltd., he has overseen energy audits on thousands of facilities including manufacturing, multiple unit residential, commercial, industrial, primary industry, institutional and all other forms of facilities. His work in policy for Canada s north, Africa and selected Canadian areas has also contributed to the advancement of energy management on a global scale. Mr. Robertson has trained over 2500 people in a variety of technical, managerial and inspirational courses in energy management. Dale has been involved in a variety of sports including running, sailing and skiing. He is an avid volunteer in many areas and is currently the President of Engineers Nova Scotia, the association for Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia.
