1 DATA COLLECTION UNIT (DCU) - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES 1. General INSTALL PROTECTIVE CAPS OVER THE OUTSIDE OF ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. DO NOT INSTALL PROTECTIVE CAPS ON THE INSIDE OF ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR SLEEVES. IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF CAP CAN DAMAGE THE INSIDE OF THE CONNECTOR (REF , REMOVAL/INSTALLATION). A. Install protective caps on disconnected electrical connectors after disassembly. 2. Consumable Materials The consumable materials listed below are used in the following procedures. Fixtures, Equipment and Supplier Tools Not Applicable 5. Data Collection Unit (DCU) A. Removal (Ref. Fig. 201) MAKE SURE AIRFRAME ELECTRICAL POWER IS OFF WHEN DISCONNECTING ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. Refer to Chapter , ADJUSTMENT/TEST for the procedure to re-initialize the DCU. (1) Select maintenance test discrete ON before DCU removal (Ref. Aircraft Maintenance Manual). (2) Disconnect engine electrical connectors P12 (2). (3) Remove two bolts (3) and DCU (4). (4) Install protective covers Page 201

Data Collection Unit (DCU) USE AN ELECTROSTATIC/ELECTRODISCHARGE BAG TO STORE THE DCU, AS PARTS AND ASSEMBLIES WITHIN THE DCU MAY BE SENSITIVE TO ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. (5) Store the DCU in an electrostatic/electrodischarge bag (PWC05-292) until the unit is required for use. B. Installation (Ref. Fig. 201) DO NOT SWITCH THE DCU FROM ITS ORIGINAL ENGINE TO ANY OTHER ENGINE. THE DCU IS AN ENGINE-SPECIFIC COMPONENT, WHICH CONTAINS DATA SPECIFIC TO THE ENGINE/EEC IT WAS FITTED TO. INSTALLATION OF ANOTHER DCU WILL CAUSE INCORRECT DATA TO BE WRITTEN TO THE EEC ON THE NEXT POWER-UP. Refer to Chapter , ADJUSTMENT/TEST for the procedure to re-initialize the DCU. DO NOT LUBRICATE THREADS. (1) Put DCU (4) on support bracket (1). Attach with two bolts (3). Torque bolts 27 to 30 lb.in. ( Nm). MAKE SURE AIRFRAME ELECTRICAL POWER IS OFF WHEN CONNECTING ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. MAKE SURE CONNECTOR PLUGS ARE CLEAN AND FREE FROM MOISTURE; IF NECESSARY, DRY USING HEAT GUN. USE ONLY APPROVED TOOLS TO TIGHTEN HARNESS CONNECTORS. CONNECTORS ARE PROPERLY TIGHTENED WHEN ONLY THE BLUE COLOR BAND IS VISIBLE; RED COLOR BAND MUST NOT BE VISIBLE. (2) Remove protective covers and install P12 connector (2) on DCU (4). Torque connectors 50 lb.in. (5.7 Nm) using wrench (PWC60142). (3) Restore electrical power to appropriate system Page 203

4 C. DCU Connections (Ref. Fig. 202) ALWAYS TIGHTEN CONNECTORS UNTIL YOU CANNOT SEE THE RED BAND AND ONLY THE BLUE BAND IS VISIBLE WHEN APPLICABLE. ALWAYS SAVE EXISTING USAGE DATA PRIOR TO DO ANY UPDATES AND DOWNLOAD UPDATES WHEN TASK IS COMPLETED. 1. Use desktop or laptop computer with Windows 2000 or XP, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or above, screen resolution 1024 X 768 or higher, 256 colors or higher and Adobe Acrobat Reader. The computer must have a RS232 COM port running or a USB serial port. Install the P&WC Diagnostics Prognostic Health Management (DPHM) system on the computer and make sure communication transfer module, GBS Diagnostic module GBSlite and the Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) are available. 2. Two DPHM kits are available with cables and software required. For more information on the DPHM kit and to order, refer INTRODUCTION. 3. Additional individual cables can be purchased separately through all tool suppliers. (1) Turn the airframe electrical power OFF. (2) Connect the harness ((PWC67397), Pedestal Connection) to the EEC connector on the pedestal (Ground Support). (3) Connect the harness ((PWC67397), P7 Universal UART box) to the universal UART ((PWC67398), J7). (4) Connect the harness ((PWC67434), P8 Universal UART conversion unit) to the Universal UART ((PWC67398), J8). (5) Computer connections (a) RS232-Connection: Connect the harness ((PWC67434), RS232 computer COM port) to the computer COM port. Not all computer have a COM port, if this is the case proceed to step (b). (b) USB Connection: Connect the harness (PWC67434) RS232-USB adapter (PWC90191). (6) Make sure the electrical connections are serviceable. D. Set EEC to Transparent Mode Set EEC to transparent mode is done to communicate with DCU. (1) Do DCU connections (Ref. Para. 5. C.) 5 (2) Make sure that the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) has been selected to operate in Manual mode in the A/C cockpit. (3) Make sure that aircraft power to the EEC in ON. (4) Make sure both (COM and BOOT) Universal UART conversion box switches (PWC67398) are OFF. (5) After one minute, turn the BOOT switch on the Universal UART conversion box 9 (PWC67398) ON. The COM switch must remain OFF. E. Engine DCU Download (1) Set EEC to transparent mode (Ref. Para. 5. D.). (2) Start GBSLITE program. (3) Do the appropriate engine model selection. (4) Do the DCU part number selection under the DCU Analysis. (5) Do DCU troubleshooting selection, next to Download and view DCU content via EEC. (6) Follow the on screen directions and then process with the fault isolation with the GBS-PWC program (Ref , ENGINE, GENERAL - FAULT ISOLATION). F. Change engine parameters with GBSLITE software Operators are allowed to make changes to the DCU summary usage data. This data is available to edit in the GBS TM (Transfer Module Program). (1) Connect the computer to the ground support connector on the pedestal (Ref. Para. 5. C.). (2) Turn ON the computer and launch GBSLite program. (3) In the GBSlite program: (a) (b) (c) (d) Do the engine model selection from the top down menu. Do the DCU part number selection in the express panel if available. Do Start DCU program selection and select on Proceed, another window will open up. Make sure that Thru_EEC option is selected Page 205
