The dinner which is by invitation only is attended by Board Members, CEO s, Presidents, Directors, Senior Managers of the leading aluminium producers in the Gulf and different parts of the world, as well as Aluminium users, Suppliers, Power generation equipment Manufacturers and Traders event is on the 5th and 6th February in Al Bustan Hotel, Muscat, Oman. All the guests will also attend the Royal Opera House for a classic music concert by Claudio Abbado & Orchestra Mozart with Pianist Maurizo Pollini. Market Update The annual Market Update for the Aluminium industry was held in Dubai, attended by the Chief Executives, Marketing Directors and Managers of the smelters and downstreams in the Gulf. This is a comprehensive study carried out specifically for GAC by the leading experts. This year s study and presentation was made by CRU.

Mr. Abdullah Busfar & Mr. Abdulla Kalban Gulf Extrusions unveils new logo Gulf Extrusions has unveiled its new corporate logo during a special dinner in Dubai. The new logo retains the green color of the old logo, signifying Gulf Extrusions full support for environment. The four arrows have been replaced by two arrows pointing upward and forward, reflecting the new corporate thrust. Overall, the logo represents the company s desire to combine tradition with modernity. 5 Midal Cables wins first National Grid supplier design contest A project that reduces reliance on natural resources by recycling the aluminium used in overhead power lines has been awarded the top prize in the National Grid supplier design competition. Morrison Utility Services and Alstom, which also submitted entries around extending the lifecycle of National Grid assets, were named as runners up. The competition, which was launched back in March, invited the National Grid supply chain to submit ideas that would boost sustainability, such as recycling or repurposing materials already under ownership. Aluminium Leaders and IAI Communication Committee in Oman Aluminium Association Leaders and IAI Communication committee will meet in Oman for the first time in the Middle East. The Association leaders represent the aluminium industry in USA, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Norway, UK, South Africa, and Iceland. The meeting will take place in conjunction with the Gulf Aluminium Dinner hosted by GAC in Muscat, Oman, 5th - 6th February UAE s aluminium rod mill UAE s Senaat Group and Ducab plan to build an aluminium rod mill in the latest metals sector collaboration between companies owned by the governments of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The joint venture, Ducab Aluminium, proposes to build a plant with an annual output capacity of 50,000 mt of aluminium rods at an estimated capital cost of $60 million. The plant will also produce electrical connectors and wiring. The manufacturing facility will be located in Abu Dhabi s Khalifa Industrial Zone. Qatar in aluminium technology initiative An initiative to position Qatar as a core knowledge center for aluminium technology in the Middle East has been launched jointly by Qatar University s Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Hydro and Qatalum. It was announced that two prominent Norwegian senior professors will hold Qatalum/Hydro chair positions in tandem for three years at CAM. Professor Hans Roven and Professor Geir Martin Haarberg of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. Alba Laboratory wins top accolade Alba Laboratory was judged to be within the top 5 positions from a list of 41 laboratories from different smelters around the world. The results were as per the final report of the Baked Anode Round Robin conducted by R&D Carbon, Switzerland. The analysis accuracy in comparison to R&D Carbon laboratory was 99 per cent.
