Thales s security solutions on show at Passenger Terminal Expo Thales, making the world s major airports safer Today, security and operation management, passenger comfort and border control are key issues for airport operators and stakeholders. To face these airport security challenges, Thales offers a portfolio of integrated solutions: For security and operation management, Thales has designed a new System of Systems approach for airport operations and security, the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC) that addresses the complexity of managing today s airport environment. Suited to airport operators and all relevant stakeholders, the AOCC intelligent system manages integrated security supervision, crisis management system, health monitoring system, and provides real-time status monitoring with key performance indicators. Integrated Security Management (Global Situation Awareness) Optimisation of the identification of anomalies, management of alerts, alarms and a better efficiency intervention in resolving anomalies. Integrated Operation Management (CDM - Collaborative Decision Making) Thales s AOCC solution is designed following Eurocontrol s recommendations promoting the sharing of information, the unification of all operator views, the optimisation of processes with a decision aid support and SOP automation. Monitoring of Key Indicator Performance and dispatching of information to stakeholders and passengers As a collector of information, it provides all statistics parameters and real-time events to the stakeholders. The solution comprises the dashboard for the airport operation management to support the decision making and consolidates actions to optimise the cost of the operation within the airport, with a clear focus on passenger satisfaction. For passenger comfort, Thales has also designed the Boarding Pass Control System (BPCS), a reliable solution providing accurate control and real-time 3
monitoring of boarding passes in order to improve passenger flow through the airport. Integrated within the Thales s Airport Operation Control Center framework, the BPCS offer allows airport services to provide quick boarding, customised passenger services and carry out efficient delay management. The main components of the BPCS are a server linked to the airport information systems, a flight information display and some portable readers connected to the server by a wireless network. The system automatically assigns the priority to each pass thus avoiding queues and overcrowding in the boarding areas. In addition, it ensures fast access to those travellers whose flight is ready for boarding and prevents unauthorised access. The BPCS modus operandi is the following: - The passenger consults the Flight Information Display for information about the flight schedules and status of authorisation, then proceeds to the entrance of the security checkpoints area. - The security officer scans the boarding pass using the BPCS portable reader which in turn transmits all data to the central control system via Wi-Fi. - This central system sends back information to the portable reader, including passenger authorisation or any additional security related information. BPCS also introduces further interesting features such as the availability of Key Performance Indicators and reports, which enables users to perform a passenger flow distribution analysis and consequently optimise the shifts of security staff. In addition, airlines can monitor the number of their passengers that have been given access to the gates in real time, helping them to avoid possible delays and operational inefficiencies. The system has been in operation at Pisa airport since July In its first month of activity more than 500,000 boarding passes were processed. 4
In the border control domain, the e- Border management system provide states with an integrated solution for securing the transit flow at their borders, confirming travellers identity and quickening the inspection process at border checkpoints. These solutions can reduce illegal entry and overstay, improve immigration management and can also help the fight against terrorism. Thales provides a secure authentication solution, Thales s Border Crossing Solution (TBCS) that verifies identity at border checkpoints and within the nation state at designated immigration offices. As well as checking the match between the document and the bearer, Thales secures authentication solutions cross-check bearers with watch lists and stolen document reports. By implementing an eborder management solution, the authority will - Increase its national security. - Improve control and management of migrants. - Detect frauds and overstayers. - Perform analysis and intelligent investigation - Optimise resources in terms of equipment, manpower, organisation. - Improve its reactivity and flexibility. - Offer new services to migrants and travellers. Thales s Border Crossing Solution can interface with the Airport Operation Control Center. Innovation: a response to the complexity of the issues facing airport operators Thales maintains a constant research effort in all areas which enables the Group to provide customers with the capabilities they need and to remain at the forefront of innovation. Since 2012, Thales has lead PITAGORA (Piattaforma IntegraTA per la Gestione delle OpeRazioni Aeroportuali / Integrated platform for the management of airport operations) a research and development project in the Tuscany Region, 5
Italy, which is being developed in collaboration with a consortium of Tuscan Universities and SMEs. The project focuses on innovative technologies and processes for Airport management, with the objective of improving existing integration platforms in terms of modularity, expandability, security and collaboration, as well as energy efficiency. The project aims to allow airport operators to provide new and better services, which in turn will guarantee a better travel experience for passengers. 6
Airport Security Integrated solutions to secure major international air transport hubs For more than 15 years, Thales has been making some of the world's major airports safer for all. A global leader in large-scale integrated systems and services, Thales offers intelligent joined-up security and operation solutions to better protect and manage public infrastructures and meet the evolving needs of operators. The world's largest airports are the size of small cities, covering tens of square kilometres and handling up to 200,000 people daily. Many such facilities, however, have no comprehensive structure to ensure the highest possible levels of security. Today, when an accident or incident occurs, much depends on the ability to exchange information and coordinate the actions of the various players involved airport operators, security forces, government agencies, first responders and airline personnel. Key figures 3 major international hubs protected by Thales s solutions: Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Doha (Qatar) and Durban (South Africa) 24 fully integrated electronic systems deployed by Thales to ensure the security of King Shaka International Airport in Durban, opened in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Thales is responsible for the 24/7 surveillance system at Singapore Changi Airport, comprising 301 videosurveillance cameras and 27 control stations Thales's response Thales ties together the various security and telecommunication systems in place to ensure increased security, reduced response times and optimised business operations. Thales turnkey solutions for Special Airport Systems enable real-time coordination of all security operations between stakeholders, through the integration of security, telecommunications, public information and airport IT systems and an overall management layer based on its core business specific applications. Thales's added value For airport operators: Enhanced operations through integrated management of security and communication Improved prevention, detection and response to security and safety threats For engineering, procurement and construction companies: World-class, credentialed technologies Project management and technical expertise in security / communications integration, acting as lead system integrator to reduce overall implementation risk Contact Thales, Media relations - Security Dorothée Bonneil dorothee.bonneil@thalesgroup.com +33 (0)

Identity Management End-to-end security with advanced biometrics technology Thales is a world leader with 30 years of experience on ID management programmes. The Group has secured 25 national ID projects and produced over 250 million identity documents all over the world. With the explosion in personal mobility, growing migratory flows and the need to rebuild institutions after conflicts or major disasters, governments face the major challenge of implementing secure identification systems based on advanced technologies such as biometrics while complying with the latest standards of identity assurance and privacy protection. Secure ID documents and effective eborder management are needed to identify travellers, curb illegal immigration and migrant overstayers, improve migration management and fight terrorism. ID management programmes can simplify relations between citizens and the state, bringing access to election, employment and social services information, and successful eborder management can aid cooperation between other countries or organisations. Because security is only as strong as the weakest link in the system, a holistic, end-to-end approach represents the only effective response to the challenge of secure identity management. 11 Thales in the security market The Thales Group brings its customers unparalleled security experience and recognised integration expertise for large-scale, complex systems. Thales is positioned as a value-added systems integrator, equipment manufacturer and service provider. The market and its environment Modern societies are mobile and interconnected, and the infrastructure that allows them to function plays a critical role. As the nervous system of our societies, this infrastructure needs not only to improve the quality of life but also to guarantee security, which is possibly our most precious asset in ensuring a sustainable future. Whenever governments, local authorities, infrastructure operators and businesses have to deal with complex situations, they must combine the need for security with the quality of the services they provide. Security threats are inherently difficult to manage because there are so many different types which are constantly evolving terrorism, cybercrime, urban crime, trafficking, illegal immigration, natural disasters, industrial accidents, etc.; their economic impact can be enormous. In addition, information systems themselves are more vulnerable to attack, so it has become important to ensure the security of data and data networks. Speed of response is increasingly crucial for ensuring security: responders and decision-makers need to be alerted as early as possible, and they need faster access to reliable, detailed information so that they can decide and act effectively in a crisis situation. Post-event analysis tools are also needed to help them capitalise on past experience. Thales s positioning As one of Europe's leading players in the security market, Thales is positioned as an added-value systems integrator, equipment manufacturer and service provider. The Thales Group's security specialists, including 4,500 dedicated staff in France alone, provide integrated, resilient security solutions that help national governments, local authorities and civil operators to protect people, sensitive data and critical infrastructure.
