9 Broadening Our Service Offerings Single Address Initiative mailing address repository and associated tools to manage the mailing addresses of property interest holders 29 participating municipalities and >80% of property addresses edelivery Provides municipalities and the PVSC with a safe and secure method of delivering high volume correspondence electronically (via epost) CBRM, District of East Hants, Town of Amherst, Region of Queens, Halifax, Halifax Water
10 Broadening Our Service Offerings Permit Data exchange (PDX) The PVSC Municipal Advisory committee, which provides ongoing input and advice into PVSC s municipal engagement strategy, suggested exploring opportunities relating to building permits and inspections Sharing data would be mutually beneficial to all parties Opportunity Assessment and survey of municipalities reinforced support for concept Business Case completed and project launched this year
11 Permit Data Sharing The Challenge Municipalities issue building permits and perform periodic inspections to ensure adherence to building codes. PVSC requires up-to-date information on permits in order to accurately reflect new development on the annual assessment roll. Stats Canada and CMHC require monthly reports from municipalities on permit activity Data/Information is shared in a variety of formats The same data is entered at least 3 times Currently, no information is exchanged relating to inspection activity information that could be of great benefit 11
12 The Path to Permit Data Exchange Working closely with: HRM CBRM East Hants Annapolis Co District of Lunenburg In order to: Validate how it works today Identify the information that would be most valuable to exchange Contemplate future opportunities 12
13 General Process Municipalities Building Permit Application 1) Property owner/contractor applies for building permit 2) Reviewed by Municipal Building Inspector 3) Permit approved 4) Submitted to PVSC in various formats 13
14 General Process Municipalities Inspections 2) Building Official visits site 1) Property Owner/Contractor requests inspection Cycle continues until Final Inspection and/or Occupancy Permit** granted (depending on type of permit) 3) Inspection form completed/photos taken (typically only if there is an issue) 5) Inspection form filed with corresponding permit 4) Inspection information keyed into permitting system and/or Excel* 14
