2 Enterprises are faced with a growing need for higher bandwidth coupled with high flexibility in their infrastructures to support such applications as Storage Area Networks, Network Attached Storage, and high performance computing. Data enters (Ds), in particular, are an important application for high performance connectivity. Organizations are building Ds to offer high performance server hosting, data storage and secure, redundant business backup. These centers are devoted to providing a secure and reliable environment for large numbers of application servers and storage devices. With extreme service reliability being a trademark of these installations, Ds must be addressed with high quality cabling solutions that allow highdensity and ease of use and deployment. Infrastructure solutions must allow for: Operational reliability Quick changes, including additions and rapid expansion High performance with migration path to future technologies Highdensity ost effective deployment and installation When evaluating cost effectiveness of solutions, always think in terms of cost over the life of the infrastructure, rather than only the initial installation cost. The lowest product cost is not always the most effective solution in the long run. hoose the right system the first time. Data center considerations should include the following: Initial installation cost: ensuring it covers adequately the specification to avoid unwanted extras and performance restrictions Administration: the network s ability to be easily and inexpensively reconfigured uture: the ability to support ever increasing bandwidth and data rates in the future Maintenance: the effort required to keep the system operating Life cycle value: the assurance of a warranty covering the applications and hardware
3 SYSTIMAX InstaPATH Plus onnectivity System Solution Guide ommscope, through its SYSTIMAX brand, has pioneered the development of intelligent data center solutions that offer realtime efficiencies, positively impacting network security, IT productivity and ultimately, business success. y implementing these intelligent solutions, enterprises can increase network uptime, improve infrastructure management and monitor network connections, allowing enterprises to more efficiently manage and safeguard its most valuable asset information. The drivers for data center fiber optic connectivity include: A need to efficiently migrate to speeds above 1 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s A need to quickly and easily configure work group networks (especially in data centers) A need to most efficiently support multiple connectivity technologies (Singlemode/Multimode, L/S/ST) High security, high electromagnetic field, high lightning strike, or corrosive environments High density, installationtime sensitive environments Large, overcrowded cabinets and racks A need to increase control over network operations A need to reduce recurring operational costs The Solution to Data enter Optical Infrastructure Needs ommscope, through its SYSTIMAX brand, brings the ultimate in fiber optic technology to the Enterprise customer. ommscope s 0year heritage in fiber optic solutions enables us to deliver a complete portfolio of products for the physical layer of the network. ommscope supports the deployment of multimode and/or singlemode fiber in the backbone segments of data centers, with it s TeraSPEED ZWP singlemode LazrSPEED laseroptimized multimode and OptiSPEED multimode solutions. SYSTIMAX InstaPATH Plus iber System The SYSTIMAX InstaPATH Plus System features a high density, factory terminated, factory tested, modular fiber connectivity solution that allows installers to simply and quickly connect system components together. This modular system approach enables up to 96 fibers to be ready for service in the time it takes to make a single fiber connection with traditional systems. Developed by ommscope Labs, the InstaPATH Plus System is designed to support locations, such as data centers, that require highdensity, rapid deployment and high performance. The InstaPATH Plus System incorporates SYSTIMAX LazrSPEED multimode, OptiSPEED multimode and TeraSPEED singlemode fiber technologies to support today s most demanding applications, while allowing easy migration to the next generation technology. The InstaPATH Plus System includes preterminated hardware, preterminated backbone trunk cables, ruggedized MPOsingle fiber fanout patch cords, array cords and standard fiber patch cords. The InstaPATH Plus System utilizes one common module, one common rugged fanout, one common array cord and standard fiber patch cords, and retains the full benefits of easy installation and system administration, while maintaining a future upgrade path to parallel connectivity. No special polarity components are required. Moreover, the InstaPATH Plus System features an improved labeling system that is accurate and logical when positioned in four orientations, affording more flexibility in design, installation, and application. The InstaPATH Plus preterminated hardware is offered in two configurations. The highdensity series features preterminated 96 L, L and S modules with up to twice the density of traditional modules. Highdensity modules can be mounted into G 1U shelves which provide slack storage for trunk cable and cable entry features for strain relief. The modular series features interchangeable and 1fiber L, and 1fiber S and ST modules in two distinct mounting arrangements to provide design and service flexibility. Preterminated with MPO connectors and offered in customerspecified lengths, the InstaPATH Plus backbone trunk cables are offered in 1,,, 7, 96, and 1fibers.
