1 Chris Spadanuda May 10th, 2017 Dear Search Committee, Applicant #66 Director - EIS Job #90326 I am writing in regard to the Director, Enterprise Internet Services position. With over 16 years of progressively responsible experience in Information Technology (IT), over 11 years of experience providing strategic leadership and management in higher education IT, a Master of Science in Information Technology, and a Bachelor s degree in Exercise and Sports Science with an emphasis in coaching, I believe I have the technical experience, management, and leadership skills necessary to deliver technology services that advance the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Serving on the CIO s IT Cabinet at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, I oversee three teams, a lead worker and manager, a 4-million-dollar budget, IT procurements, several campus data centers, 60,000 active accounts, 500 servers, and hundreds of applications. Leading the strategic direction and planning for enterprise systems, applications, and infrastructure in a large, complex environment, I manage major projects, develop partnerships, and ensure IT service needs are met. My teams are known for providing robust, high-quality services that enable teaching, learning, and research at UWM. Some services provided include, Office 365, document storage, web services, technical system architecture and infrastructure, application integration, identity and access management, and application hosting. Recently, I led a campaign to mitigate phishing attempts. The campaign utilized print, electronic, and inperson communications to convey the risks, issues, and to non-technical users. I successfully led a team responsible for migrating 60,000 accounts in 5 months from an onsite mail system to Office 365. The complex migration project was completed by a cross departmental team, earning formal praise from UWM s faculty Information Technology Policy Committee. Additionally, I led a 1.6-milliondollar project replacing the primary enterprise storage system in the data centers. By building partnerships with 3 decentralized IT departments, negotiating with our vendor, working with executive leadership, and challenging traditional IT project implementations, I achieved significant savings through the consolidation of storage services during the project. As a design contributor to UWM s change management process, and ITIL v3 certified, I incorporate Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) into UWM s IT processes. I am a member of the University of Wisconsin System Identity and Access Management Technical Advisory Group working to improve electronic identity handling throughout Wisconsin. I am also a member of the University of Wisconsin Information Assurance Council, a group creating a system-wide information security program and writing foundational security policies for the University of Wisconsin System. My national experiences include serving as the Chair of the InCommon Assurance Advisory Committee, which is part of Internet2, and presenting at many national IT conferences. At the 2016 Educause conference I co-presented a half day, highly engaging, seminar titled Developing a Roadmap for a Campus-Wide Office 365 SharePoint Implementation. As part of a global federated identity effort, I worked with InCommon and edugain as an early adopter and pilot participant. Partnering with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), I was able to facilitate membership in an international identity federation and assist work leading to the discovery of gravitational waves. My ability to deliver high-quality, customer focused services, my talent for building relationships in support of complex IT projects, and my aptitude for leading high performing technology teams are an excellent fit for the Director, Enterprise Internet Services position at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I am very interested in discussing the position with you and hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Chris Spadanuda
