4 WECC FACTS Largest geographic g area of the eight Regional Entities Western Interconnection (1.8 million square miles) includes all or part of 14 Western states, two Canadian provinces, and a portion of Baja California Norte, Mexico 4

6 WECC Board of Directors WECC is governed by an independent and balanced stakeholder board consisting of seven Non-Affiliated Directors and 26 Directors drawn from WECC membership classes. The WECC CEO is also a member of the WECC Board. 6

16 16 Western Interconnection Synchrophasor Program (WISP) US DOE grant of $53.9 million awarded April 1, 2010 Funding matches dollars committed by nine WISP Participant Entities in the WECC Region to extend and deploy synchrophasor technologies within their electrical systems Total WISP funding g$ $107.8 million Ten additional parties participating outside the grant in addition to nine original Participant Entities

17 Western Interconnection Synchrophasor h Program (WISP) cont. Will install more than 500 new or upgraded Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) in the Western Interconnection Will tie PMUs together with a dedicated secure communications network, and deploy software tools to manage an increasingly complex power grid PMUs deployed d today 399 Phasor Data Concentrators deployed today 62 17
