3 Why Internet Governance Matters How the Internet is governed is of growing concern to a global society increasingly dependent on the Internet and the significant economic, political and social benefits that hinge upon its stability and availability. Understanding the complex matrix of relationships, organizations, principles, protocols, economics and policy behind management of the Internet is key to being able to contribute to its advance.

Internet governance is the development and application by governments, the private sector, and civil society, in their respective roles, of shared principles, norms, rules, decision-making procedures, and programmes that shape the evolution and use of the Internet. 13 Key Concepts NET NEUTRALITY The principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites.
14 Key Concepts CYBERSECURITY The state of being protected against unauthorized access to or use of electronic data, or the measures taken to achieve this.
15 Key Concepts ENCRYPTION The conversion of electronic data into another form, called ciphertext, which cannot be easily understood by anyone except authorized parties.
16 Key Concepts CLOUD COMPUTING the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer.
17 Key Concepts CONVERGENCE Telecommunications convergence, network convergence or simply convergence are broad terms used to describe emerging telecommunications technologies, and network architecture used to migrate multiple communications services into a single network.
