3 How Internet Works Each node connected to Internet uses an IP addresswhich identifiesthehostin theinternet. IP blocs belonging to one administrative entity are announced through the Internet using an Autonomous System Number (ASN). Internet applications, services and resources are accessible by human beings using a name.

6 The Domain Name System DNS is a system designed to make Internet accessible to human beings Provides an addressing system that helps people to find websites and other resources in the Internet: Internet is easier to use with DNS Translate Names to IP addresses Hierarchical architecture with the root at the top

12 DNS Registration Process In order to reserve a public domain name, a registrant must register it with a registrar. If the domain is available, the registrar create a WHOIS record with the registrant s information. It is also possible to register domains through a registrar s resellers or directly with the registry

In addition to its separate topic-specific capacity building events, AfTLD holds an annual conference and AGM. Its training workshops are run in both English and French, and is held in various locations across the continent.
