2 1 Connections 1.1 Supported connections types This application supports several connection types: - Direct communication via serial port (via optical probe or RS/RS485 cable) - Via GSM modem - Via PLC module - Via web service (for testing only) - Via ZigBee module Connection type and parameters can be set on connection, PLC and DLMS parameters tabs Direct communication Direct serial communication is the simplest, transparent method of communication with meter. For direct communication, optical probe or serial cable to the meter are needed. To use direct connection, choose Serial in Connection type combo box, and set other parameters as needed GSM communication GSM communication is way of communication with meter via GSM modem connected to COM port. GSM modem must be properly installed in the system. To use GSM connection, choose GSM in Connection type combo box, type phone number in GSM textbox and set other parameters as needed PLC communication PLC (Power Line Communication) is way of communication with meter via power lines, with eventual use of GSM modem connected to COM port. GSM modem must be properly installed in the system. To use PLC connection, choose PLC in Connection type combo box, type phone number in GSM textbox (if PLC device we want to connect to is connected to remote GSM modem), set PLC parameters and set other parameters as needed Connection parameters In Connection parameters tab user sets parameters needed for connection to meter, COM port (COM1-0) and baud rate. In Connection type user sets connection type Serial (for direct communication), GSM, PLC, IP Test Service (for application testing) and ZigBee. In Connection parameters group user sets standard connection parameters data bits, parity bits, stop bits, number of retries, timeout (in ms), GSM (phone number used to communicate with distant GSM modem in GSM, PLC and ZigBee communication), ZigBee address and meter password PLC connection parameters Parameters for PLC communication are located in PLC tab Response Timeout (in ms), number of repetitors in the network, Repetition Timeout, PLC Baud rate (communication speed between PLC communicator and meter) and max telegram length. 1. DLMS connected parameters The most significant DLMS parameter is HDLC address, used to determine particular meter in network we want to communicate with. When working with Mikroelektronika meters, HDLC address should be entered in format 0001xxxx, where "xxxx" stands for four last digits taken from

3 serial number (displayed on meter). In PLC communication is also used to select a repetitor. Conformance block is also worth noting. Other parameters usually do not need to be modified, since all of them are set to default values Conformance Block Conformance block parameter can be set by direct entry of each of three bytes, or by setting it bit by bit. When Edit button is clicked, separate window with all bits shown pops up, and specific value can be set. 1.. Coded HDLC If parameter CodedHDLC in configuration file MesmetOneClick.exe.config has value False, HDLC address will be sent as it is written. If CodedHDLC is True, address will be coded by Mikroelektronika s algorithm. 1. Connection manipulation buttons There are eight icons in toolbar used for operations with meter. From left to right: Open Serial Port, Connect, Disconnect, Close Serial Port, Update HDLC, Read, Write and Help Open Serial Port After clicking on Open Serial Port icon, physical level of comunication is opened. If direct serial, or ZigBee or PLC communication without GSM modem is selected, this way serial port is opened for communication. If GSM communication is involved, this way physical GSM connection with meter or module is opened. If serial port is opened successfully, an icon (depending of communication type) appears in lower right corner. GSM connections stays open until serial port is closed, and IS NOT affected by Connect and Disconnect! 1.. Connect If serial port is open, after clicking on Connect icon application makes an attempt to establish a DLMS communication with meter. If establishing communication succeeds, icon in lower right corner turns blue. If it fails, icon stays gray, and error report is shown in status bar. If serial port is closed, it is not possible to establish comunication with meter. 1.. Disconnect After clicking on Disconnect icon, existing DLMS connection is cancelled. Connection status icon in lower right corner turns gray. If DLMS connection doesn t exist, message Not connected! is shown in lower right corner. It should be noted again that GSM connection stays open after DLMS disconnect! 1..4 Close Serial Port After clicking on Close Serial Port icon, physical level of communication with meter is closed. Serial port is again available for all other applications. Icon with communication type disappears from lower right corner Update HDLC If serial port is open, it is possible to update HDLC address which we access, by entering new address in HDLC Address field on DLMS Parameters tab, and then clicking on Update HDLC icon. This way it s possible to change the meter user is accessing without breaking physical communication.

4 1..6 Read After clicking on Read, application attempts to read data from active object (currently visible object). When tarriff table or any simple object is selected, all displayed atributes are read, and when clock object is active, user can select the attributes he wants to read. If no attributes are selected, all of them are read. When one of the profiles is selected, user can select time slot for reading, and captured objects from which he wants to read. If no captured object is selected, all of them are read Write After clicking on Write, application attempts to write selected attribute into meter object. It s only possible to write into Clock (only checked attributes) and Tarriff table (complete table) objects. If there is no active connection, or if user attempts to write into an read-only object, error message is displayed in status bar. Objects Mesmet OneClick provides possibility of access to many objects in DLMS meters..1 Simple objects Simple objects accessible by MesmetOneClick applications are Clock and Error objects. Clock Clock is selected by clicking on Clock in Basic Objects group on Objects tab. All attributes are defined by DLMS standard. System time can be written into meter by checking time attribute, and selecting System option. Afterwards, during write operation, application takes system time from computer and writes it into meter. Error objects Error object is selected by clicking on Error objects in Basic Objects group on Objects tab. It s possible to read values of ALARM Meter cover opened, Battery low and Date time invalid..1.1 Billing registers Billing registers are objects used for measuring energy consumption, current and maximum power. One of billing registers is selected in group By tariff by choosing appropriate element (type of power or energy active or reactive, positive or negative, by quadrant), then what is measured (energy, current power, maximum power) and tariff (tarriffs 1-8, or total for summary). After that, click on Select button in the group..1. Network quality registers Network quality registers are object used for measuring current, voltage, power factor, supply frequency and harmonics of currend and voltage, for every phase separately. User can select one of the registers by choosing an item from appropriate combo box and clicking Select..1. Profiles Profiles are objects used for sampling the values from selected registers in appropriate time periods. Since profiles can be very large, it can take some time to complete their reading. Therefore, it s possible to narrow selection, by choosing appropriate time interval, and after reading is started, by selecting only needed objects. If a problem occurs during reading (e.g. terminated GSM call), application shows the part already read.

5 After such error, it s necessary to disconnect and connect again to proceed communication. Billing profile Billing profile usually contains data about billing registers and samples their values once a month. Load profile Load profile usually contains data about maximum power registers. Event log Event log usually contains data about all important events (e.g. power failures, meter cover opening...)..1.4 Tariff table Tariff table is selected by clicking on Tariff table. Tariff table represents summary of three objects - Tariffication script table, Activity Calendar and Special Days Table. Those tables are interconnected. Tables Seasons, Weeks and Days are used for data from Activity Calendar, and Special Days table is used for Special Days Table class. Button + is used for inserting new rows into tables and - button remove last row from tables. Field Activate passive calendar time is connected to Activity Calendar class and is used to write time for tariff table activation. It is not possible to edit tariff table before reading current tariff table.. Actions Beside reading and writing, in MesmetOneClick application it is possible to execute several important actions. Action buttons are located on Actions tab. All actions request confirmation.. Problems If user tries to read from non-existant object, application will report error, but will not interrupt communication. In case of any communication problem or any awkward behavior, universal procedure is: - Click on Disconnect, then Connect - If that fails, try to close and reopen serial port, with parameters check (e.g. some DLMS communication mods do not allow writing into meter) - If there is problem with connecting to meter, user should check: - If appropriate communication type is selected - If connection parameters are OK - If HDLC address is correct (also check if CodedHDLC value is OK) - If exact phone number is entered - If problem cannot be solved this way, feel free to us on MESMET-support@e-smartsys.com and we will response you as soon as possible.
