3 1 General The heterogeneous system landscape and the various levels of data quality in ERP, Data Warehouse and other operational applications systems place high demands on data processing and distribution. At the same time, it is essential that information from spreadsheets, groupware and communication applications can be integrated so that management can act on the basis of the same, shared pool of information. STRATandGO TM provides the tool to guarantee this consistency in the 'data world' - easily and efficiently. With the Data Import and Export tool developed by PROCOS all relevant data is made available to the STRATandGO TM analysis platform. The ETL tool (Extraction - Transformation - Loading) imports data from a source system and writes it back again. The open and flexible architecture of DIMEX enables it to act as a universal and neutral connection tool for any structured data source. Page 3 of 9

4 2 Core Features 2.1 Flexible and open interface STRATandGO TM DIMEX supports an extensive list of systems that can be used to retrieve or store data. Due to the usage of industry standards like OLE DB and ODBC the data interface is open and also supports future systems. OLE DB, ODBC and native.net DIMEX supports all data sources compliant with the standards OLE DB and ODBC. Furthermore all sources that implement a native.net driver are supported. Using these open interfaces DIMEX is able to connect to popular database and systems like MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, MS Access, MS Excel but also to all other system supporting these standards. 5 SAP DIMEX provides direct interfaces to SAP systems. Intuitive features make it easy to retrieve and write data to SAP in various ways. SAP Queries SAP Queries can be directly accessed by DIMEX using their names, Workspace and User Group SAP RFC Functions RFC Functions provide a very flexible way to retrieve and send data from and to SAP. Supporting In- and Out-parameter as well as multiple tables, this is the most flexible interface between SAP and DIMEX. SAP Tables Directly reading SAP tables (using SAP features and therefore not circumventing SAP security) is a simple but still flexible way to retrieve relational data from SAP. SAP BW Cubes A direct and intuitive interface to SAB Cubes can read multidimensional data and provide it in a flattened/relational structure. OLAP DIMEX can directly communicate with OLAP data sources supporting Microsoft ADOMD.NET and MDX. Currently tested providers include MS AS 2000 and MS AS Using XMLA it is also possible to access a wide range of conformant providers like SAP BW. Page 5 of 9

6 2.2 Easy and powerful ETL definition Defining a transfer using DIMEX is done via a graphical user interface. All configurations are created without any recompilation of DIMEX or other software. Tools like list, dropdowns etc guide the user through the definition and reduce inconsistencies to a minimum. There is no need to build a large set o meta-info before a transfer can be defined so the design process is usually very short and leads to quick results. Powerful features allow for complex data migration, merges, cleanup and other conversions. Every part of a transfer definition can be re-used for other transfer and therefore guarantees consistent ETL processes. Page 6 of 9

7 2.3 Intuitive User Interface Starting a DIMEX transfer does not require any knowledge about the data or transformation itself. The user interface is very intuitive and provides detailed information about the transfer steps and possible problems. A history keeps track of every start so every transfer-execution can be reviewed and associated to a specific user. Page 7 of 9

8 2.4 Testing-Mode During the build-process of a transfer it is often helpful to see the data that are retrieved and written without really modifying any of the involved systems. DIMEX supports this using a powerful test-mode that provided details information about every record that is read and written without really modifying the source or target system. Using this feature correctness of data sources, transformation, data types etc can be verified before modifying life data. 2.5 Unattended Execution and Logging DIMEX can be integrated into standard scheduling-tools (like Microsoft Task Scheduler). Therefore it can start transfers in fixed intervals without user interaction. Histories and logs enable an administrator to check when a transfer has been executed and if it was successful.
