2 Management and testing of power system protection IPS-ENERGY RELEX is a data and testing management database for almost all power system protection devices. The system works as middleware, it connects available documentation and software in one common user interface. RELEX contexts relay data management and testing intelligence in one automated process with all necessary information whenever and wherever needed. All documentation, from user manual to latest test protocol, is easily accessible per asset or in collection reports. From RELEX the correct test template is loaded into FREJA Win for easy and correct testing. The result of the test is automatically uploaded into the database, which results in an accurate and faster testing. Management will have easy accessible overview and test engineers less administration and higher effectiveness in testing. The RELEX System may be used as stand alone or can be used as complementary part of overall operative maintenance intelligence systems, IPS-ENERGY STANDARD, ENTERPRISE or EXECUTIVE, for power system network assets

3 Asset maintenance management IPS-RELEX provides an advanced asset maintenance management solution. The IPS-RELEX software provides the latest database technology to manage relay data with superior controllership. Scalability from single user PC systems to multi-user server editions to executive suite makes the software scaleable from small service companies to large national grid owners. Open system The open system architecture of IPS-RELEX makes it possible to track the use of protection test equipment from multiple suppliers. Old data captured in tests prior to implementing RELEX can be imported into the database and tagged to the test object. Test templates and plans created in current protection test systems* can be imported and reused. * Systems supported by IPS. Relays IPS-RELEX supports many different relay types, is manufacturer independent and the library of supported protection devices is continuously updated. The database is organized to provide an easy overview of relays and at the same time every relay is tagged to maximize efficiency and controllership. Any associated documentation, e.g. manuals, relay settings or test procedures, can be attached and stored with each specific relay. Relay setting history is also stored in order to maximize controllership and minimize errors. Mobility Management and testing of power system protection devices may be carried out from different locations, including switchgear, substations, and power plants. All data in the database related to the protection devices are available on site in the PC notebooks. Back in the office data is transferred to the database with automatic synchronization on connection to the server via LAN or WAN. For single user/single PC installation a back-up/restore utility is provided. Special features The uses data models that have been especially developed for a wide range of power system protection devices. This simplifies the handling of protection settings by the user. RELEX also allows automatic protection setting import from a wide range of digital protection devices. Flexibility IPS-RELEX is supplied with a variety of protection device data models of manufacturers including Siemens, Areva, ABB, GE, SEL. All available protection device data models are included with IPS-RELEX. Thanks to the IPS-RELEX Protection Device Data Modelling Module, users can define their own protection data models and make changes to existing models. Experienced power system protection engineers only require a oneday course to learn how to define protection data models with IPS- RELEX by using standard ASCII or XML relay data export. The database is organized to provide an easy overview of relays and at the same time every relay is tagged to maximize efficiency and controllership. 5 Testing The integrated environment of IPS-RELEX and FREJA makes relay testing both accurate and easy. The relays in the database have test templates attached for quick set up of a test. When RIO files are applicable, an automatic generation and import simplifies testing of complex protection. A test history is stored with all previous tests and it is just a click away to perform the same test again. The transfer of test templates and test results between IPS-RELEX and the FREJA software is automated. Reports The reports can be customized to include the data needed and to have the required layout. The report format is independent of relay type and relay tester, which helps users create reports that are easily readable, simplifies the data structure and emphasis the professional appearance needed in business of today and tomorrow.
