1 ASG-Rochade Scanner for SQL Server Reporting Services Release Notes Version October 21, 2015 SCL This publication contains installation instructions and information about ASG-Rochade Scanner for SQL Server Reporting Services (herein called SCANMSSRS). Product Information SCANMSSRS includes these components: The Scanner component extracts metadata from Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (herein called SSRS). Analyzes reports and data source views that are deployed to the SSRS server as well as reports and data source views that are stored in the server s local file system. Directly scans reports and data source views that are stored in the local file system of the machine on which the Scanner component is running. The XML Import imports the analyzed metadata into a subject area in the ASG-Rochade (herein called Rochade) database. The Linker component creates tool cross-links between the instances created by the Scanner component and instances created by other Rochade RDBMS and SQL Server scanners. 2 Enhancements and Changes Version Version includes these enhancements: The Scanner component now supports analyzing metadata from Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and 2014 Reporting Services. The Linker component now supports creating cross-links to DB2 instances. Corrections and Fixes Version Version corrects these errors: When scanning a directory or directory tree with more than one directory level from a SSRS server, the scanner produced a result that could not be imported. When scanning a directory, directory tree, or single file from the file system, the drive name was saved once with a backslash and once without (e.g., C:\ and C:). Compatibility SCANMSSRS has been tested against Microsoft SQL Server 2012 RTM and Each SCANMSSRS version supports specific Microsoft SQL Server versions. 3 System Requirements ASG provides information about system recommendations and supported environments for all Rochade components in its ISP under Click the upper left hyperlink ASG-Rochade Product Groups to see the corresponding files (i.e., Rochade Ecosystem and Rochade Supported Environments). Supported Operating Systems SCANMSSRS supports Microsoft Windows 7 and 8 as well as Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2. Software Requirements SCANMSSRS requires these software components: ASG-Metability or later ASG-Metability Scanner Configuration or later ASG-Rochade Account Utility or later ASG-Rochade AutoPilot or later ASG-Rochade Java API or later ASG-Rochade XML Facilities or later The scanner also requires Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or 2014 Reporting Services. Installation Information ASG recommends that you back up your existing Rochade environment (i.e., directories, libraries, and files) before upgrading your installation. This ensures that you can re-implement any company-specific changes if you encounter any issues during the upgrade process. For general instructions about installing Rochade, see the readme.pdf file in the Rochade distribution directory or on the installation CD. For detailed information about installing and starting Rochade, see the ASG-Rochade Installation Guide. 3

4 Information Model Import The SCANMSSRS installation includes the MSSRIM10 information model. The model will be imported into the Rochade database that you select for installing the product. If the model already exists in the database, a backup is created before the new version of the model is imported. The installation program will display a message informing you about the directory where you can find the information model backup. Any ASG product that you install with Rochade could cause additional model imports. For a list of information models that ship with a particular ASG product, see the release notes for that product. Installing SCANMSSRS To install SCANMSSRS, follow the general directions in the readme.pdf file for installing Rochade applications. Like all Rochade components, SCANMSSRS is installed in two steps: 1 ADM installation 2 Application installation These files are installed in the Rochade/ScanMSS/V112 directory: File \bin \bin\2012\scanmssrs.exe \schema \TechDoc Description SQL scanner modules and a JAR file for the Linkers. SCANMSSRS scanner load module to analyze SSRS. Control files for ASG-Rochade XML Facilities imports. HTML description of the information model MSSRIM10. The installation carries out these actions: Importing the information model MSSRIM10. Installing SCANMSSRS (including the Linker). Installing templates for configuring the command, and parameter files. 4

5 Getting Started You must complete these tasks before you can run SCANMSSRS: Generate the information model MSSRIM10. For details, see the chapter about Model Administration in the ASG-Metability System Administrator s Guide. Create a subject area based on the information model. For details, see the chapter about Subject Area Administration in the ASG-Metability System Administrator s Guide. Use ASG-Metability Scanner Configuration (herein called ScannerConfig) to configure SCANMSSRS. ScannerConfig provides a graphical user interface and templates that enable you to set up and create the required command and configuration files for SCANMSSRS. To analyze the SSRS reports and data source views 1 Run the scanner on the machine on which the SQL Server is installed. 2 Import the result into Rochade. 3 Create cross-links between the imported SCANMSSRS related items and the items created by other Rochade RDBMS and SQL Server scanners. To start the Scanner Run this Scanner command file: ScanMSSRS-scan.cmd. Or If you are have enabled Process Monitor, run this Scanner command file: ScanMSSRS-scan-monitor.cmd The SCANMSSRS Scanner extracts the meta information from the SSRS object model. This means you must start the scanner on a machine on which the corresponding assemblies are installed (i.e., the machine on which SSRS is installed). 5

6 To start the XML Import Run this XML Import command file: ScanMSSRS-import.cmd. Or If you have enabled Process Monitor, run this XML Import command file: ScanMSSRS-import-monitor.cmd To start the Linker Run this Linker command file: ScanMSSRS-link.cmd Or If you have enabled Process Monitor, run this Linker command file: ScanMSSRS-link-monitor.cmd Since the Linker component also creates cross-links to the instances of other Rochade RDBMS and SQL Server scanners, the target instances must be scanned and imported before the Linker is started. Known Limitations SCANMSSRS does not analyze MDX scripts. 6
