1 CD INSTALLER INSTRUCTION Monotype PostScript Monotype Software RIP (OS) Big5 PostScript 7MB GB 4MB CD-ROM 7.1 Chinese Language Kit Preparations To install Monotype Chinese font, you must have the following equipment: A double-byte compatible PostScript laser printer or imagesetter (refer below as Printer): Please refer to Appendix for a listing of supported PostScript devices. External (or internal) font disk: You must have a hard-disk connect to your printer to store font data. In the case of software RIP you do not need this as the font disk is part of the OS s file system. When choosing the size of the hard-disk, you should allow at least 4MB for each GB encoded font and 7MB each for Big5 encoded font. As rasterising Chinese font requires a lot of disk access. We suggest using a fast hard-disk. Apple Macintosh with CD-ROM drive connected on network: You can use English System 7.1 or above. There is no need to use Chinese System software for installation.

You must be able to choose the printer on Chooser. Ignore the following steps if you are using a software RIP. 2 Before start up the printer, connect the printer to the SCSI hard-disk. We suggest other hard-disks to be turned off to avoid mistakes. When connecting more than one hard-disk, please make sure there is no SCSI ID conflict. Normally, font data are downloaded into the disk of smaller SCSI ID. Fonts will be downloaded to the internal hard-disk if your internal hard-disk has a smaller ID number. 3 The font disk must be formatted by the printer through printer s utility software e.g. for Apple s LaserWriter Utility, choose Initialize Printer s Disk under the File menu. In some case (e.g. QMS1660) you can format the hard-disk from the front panel of the printer. Note: Be very careful when you format your printer s internal hard-disk. It may contain information vital for proper operations of your printer!

Copy Downloader application into your local hard-disk if you want to save your Font Key settings in later stages. 5 Double click to launch the Downloader. On the File menu bar choose Download Data. The dialog box below will appear: Note: All diagrams are for viewing purposes only and should not be taken as actual copies. 6 There are 4 font Encodings and variations available: Big5: Traditional Chinese font in Big 5 Encoding GB: Simplified Chinese font in GB2312 Encoding GB5: Simplified Chinese font in Big 5 Encoding TGB: Traditional Chinese font in GB12345 Encoding If you are installing GB fonts, click and highlight GB in the top left hand list and all font files belong to GB will appear on the Data File list.

4 GB Big5 GB5 TGB MHeiMedium. psd Add Add All Data File Selected File Selected File Remove Clear 7 Download To select the font you want to install: Firstly, click and highlight the appropriate Encoding (GB, Big5, TGB, GB5), Secondly, click and highlight the data file (eg. MHei-Medium.psd), Lastly, click on the Add button to add. Add All button will add all data files selected by the Encoding. If you want to remove any Selected Files, simply click and highlight the files from the Selected Files section and then click the Remove button. Clear button will clear all the files from the Selected Files list. 7 Once you are satisfied with your selections, click the Download button to start downloading. Downloading Please Be Patient

5 8 File Examine Printer Examine printer/imagesetter 8 Choose Examine Printer from the File menu bar. Examine Printer Information Simple Detail Simple To get the printer and font information, you can either click the Simple button or the Detail button. (Getting detail information may take 10 to 15 minutes, please be patient.) When you click the Simple button, the following page will be printed. The PostScript Serialnumber of LaserWriter Pro 630 is: 6D79C4E0 Hard disk ID: %disk2%

6 9 Details Monotype Monotype Key Code File Quit Downloader 9 Click the Detail button to get a detailed report on the organisation of font files. The Printer Information Page below will be printed out: Please fax the detail Printer Information Page to us, together with your purchase order (or font list), your information, and return fax number to your Monotype dealer.you can leave Downloader for now until you receive further information from Monotype.

7 10 Key Code 11 Key Code Downloader File Download Big5 Key Download GB Key Key Code 12 Key Code Save Default 13 Download Download 14 Key Code Installing key files 10 Once we receive the Printer Information Page, we ll fax you the required Key Code. (Fig. Top Left) 11 You should enter the key into the installer by opening Download Big5 Key, Download GB Key, (or both) under the File menu. Please take care not to mix up the Big5 and GB keys if you are installing both. You ll see the Key File Download dialog (Fig. Bottom Left) 12 Enter the nine 10-Character Key Codes in the provided Key Code area. You can click the Save Default button to save the key into disk and retain it for future reloading of Key Files. 13 Click the Download button when done. Downloader will then download the Key File and other supporting files into the printer/imagesetter. 14 Repeat installing Key Files of other encodings, where applicable.

8 15 Apple LaserWriter Utility Testings & Diagnostics 15 Using Apple LaserWriter Utility or similar PS file downloading utilities, download the diagnostic files,one file for each font, from the following folders: Monotype Chinese PS font:goodies: PS problem diagnostic: Hard Copy:Big5: Monotype Chinese PS font:goodies: PS problem diagnostic: Hard Copy:GB5: Monotype Chinese PS font:goodies: PS problem diagnostic: Hard Copy:GB: Monotype Chinese PS font:goodies: PS problem diagnostic: Hard Copy:TGB: Please pick your typefaces from the folders. They should appear like those below: Please note and report any error messages.
