4 New features SmartProfiler The GMG SmartProfiler ensures that your digital and LFP print-outs have the same color appearance as the particular reference. Ensuring a common color impression throughout different printing processes, GMG ColorServer automatically converts your printing data to the corresponding output color space. But what happens if you are producing with digital or large format printers? As there is no binding industry standard and the particular color space for different digital and large format printers is quite unknown, you won t get satisfying, perfect results in color consistency compared to the reference. There is no official profile which describes how to convert reference data into your digital/lfp production color space. With the GMG SmartProfiler Option for ColorServer, you can profile your digital or large format printer to adapt the printing results to an internal reference. Once profiled, you can convert every printing data directly into your individual printer color space for output on your printing unit. With profiling based on our GMG MX-DeviceLink Technology best color results are ensured.

5 Using the calibration, recalibration and linearization features of the GMG SmartProfiler your process improves in stability and repeatability. In short: With the GMG SmartProfiler Option you have full control over the color. For digital and large format printers, the GMG SmartProfiler Option expands the GMG ColorServer into one single tool that s responsible for color in the whole process, no matter which type of printer is used. Also in mixed environments with conventional and digital / large format printers, the GMG SmartProfiler ensures that color always stays the same, irrespective of the printing process. The SmartProfiler is a chargeable option of the product GMG ColorServer 5. FOGRA53 / ecicmyk With this software update, the GMG ColorServer can convert data from and to the new color space FOGRA53 / ecicmyk. FOGRA53 has been designed as a CMYK-based exchange and communication color space. It has been developed by FOGRA and GMG. The release of this new colorspace is attended and supported by the ecicmyk.icc profile, provided by the ECI. The goal was to define and establish a CMYK color space for a media neutral workflow. FOGRA53 / ecicmyk can therefore be used at different steps throughout the whole workflow, starting from the creation of the design. One single color space for all the content and color approval in front of the many potential production output conditions. Many important requirements for a smooth adaptation in typical design and repro working practices are fulfilled by our profiles for FOGRA53 / ecicmyk: A tonal and color characteristic close to conventional CMYK printing processes (like described in FOGRA39 or FOGRA51) Big enough to cover most colorspaces with higher pigment inks or digital multi-ink systems CMY dominated separation for an easy and harmonious retouching Proofability on typical proofing systems in the market A good exchange color space is not one of extremes but of moderation, showing results that are neither too beautiful nor too washed out for the different production color spaces, while at the same time being as close as possible to the eventual output. The realistic limitations in gamut and dynamic range this puts on a color space are incorporated in FOGRA53 / ecicmyk, making it an ideal choice for creating and exchanging print data in a standardized way. The following profiles supporting this standard have been added to Colorserver 5.

6 Konica Minolta FD-9 GMG ColorServer 5.0 now supports the Konica Minolta Auto Scan Spectrophotometer FD-9. The driver for this measurement device has been implemented in this version. With the FD-9, the data for multiple measurement conditions (M1, M0, M2) can be obtained simultaneously, the actual measurement work needs to be performed only once. Resolved issues The following technical issues have been resolved in GMG ColorServer Please note that the list describes the problem, not the solution. Hotfolder ServiceMonitor: ColorServer stopped working when multiple windows users logged in When multiple Windows users logged in, the Hotfolder Service Monitor was started automatically, even if the monitor was already started by another user. The input and output folders were scanned and cleaned up by multiple Hotfolder Service Monitors and ColorServer stopped working. [75901] PDF-to-PDF: Error in Acrobat after PDF processing with 3D sharpness in CMYK A PDF processed in ColorServer with 3D sharpness for the CMYK output color space in images, showed an error in Acrobat: There was an error processing a page: invalid colorspace. [75796] PDF-to-PDF: unexpected black lines in PDF after processing with 3D sharpness in CMYK After processing in ColorServer with 3D sharpness for the CMYK output color space in images (value: 5), a PDF had black lines beside the placed objects. [75630, 76260] PDF-to-PDF: Empty page aborted processing A PDF file with an empty page aborted the processing with the error "Page contents CosObj is null". [74396] PDF-to-PDF: Text missing after flattening in CS Text was missing in the output file of a PDF after flattening in ColorServer. [67918] PDF-to-PDF: File not converted Some PDF s were not converted. A workaround was to optimize them in Acrobat. After that they were processed in ColorServer. [75585] PDF-to-PDF: File name with & ColorServer could not process PDF s when the file name contained the special character &. [75613, 75956] PDF-to-PDF: Flattening error for multipage PDF A Multipage PDF ran in a flattening error when the option 'preserve overprint black' was activated. [72042]

7 JPEG-to-PDF: Output file cropped The output files of JPEG-to-PDF processing were sometimes cropped. [75197] JPEG file not processed A JPEG file was not processed. The workaround was to open and save it again. [74519] Temp Folder ColorServer did not clean up the temp folder after restart. [74557] Licensing: Wrong count of Click Licenses The counting of clicks was not correct. Click licenses were consumed during startup and when profile data was requested from client. [74778] Limitations of the SmartProfiler No Presets for Offset and Gravure The presets for non-digital printing systems (offset and gravure presses) is not available in the current version of the SmartProfiler option for GMG ColorServer 5. No RGB to CMYK Separation Profiles The current version does not support creation of GMG RGB to CMYK separation profiles. No Validation Print after Finalization Currently, printing a Validation print is not possible after finalizing the profiles. Konica Minolta FD-9: Client crashes on "cancel measurement" Canceling a measurement for the FD-9 (e.g. because of defects on the charts) causes a crash of the ColorServer client. Any unsaved changes to resources will be lost. The limitations will be addressed in the upcoming versions. Build number GMG ColorServer Tips and Tricks: Colorserver No connection to server (red) Issue: No connection to server (red) Description When the ColorServer Client is not connected to the server, the following message appears in the left lower corner: Disconnected, server adress: https//

8 Checklist Steps to resolve the issue 1) Is your ColorServer 5 license valid? You can check your license in the ColorServer Configurator, on the tab License. The product ColorServer 5.0 needs to be licensed with a valid date. In this example, the licenses, nor the serial number are recognized. The dongle is not yet connected to the system. 2) Are all relevant services installed and started? Check this in the Windows Task Manager on the Services Tab. Both Application Service and GMG ColorServer Service Monitor must be started, for a working connection of the client to the server. GMG ColorServer Service Monitor Application Service

9 With the new server/client architecture of ColorServer 5, the different components (Server, Client, Worker, etc.) communicate via http or https. 3) Connection issue with the Mac Client: Windows Firewall Should you have connection issues with the Mac Client, please fully deactivate the Windows Firewall. Now the Client should be able to connect to the server. If you do not wish to deactivate the Firewall, you can add a rule for the required ports. Go to: Windows Firewall > advanced settings > New Rule > etc. The default ports for ColorServer can be lookup up in the ColorServer Configurator. See first tab for ColorServer Configurator : Queue port, Web Service Port. See second tab for Worker Configuration : Queue port, Web Service Port.

10 You can change the ports (if needed) in the configurator. 4) Valid connection The Client is successfully connected to the server when an active (green) connection in the lower left corner is displayed.

11 Tips and Tricks: Jobs missing in the Client overview In case not all the jobs are listed in the ColorServer Client, please check the job filter: Client > Settings > filter Jobs by client Select here the correct instance or select All Clients Tips and Tricks: Measurements with Barbieri Spectro LFP in SmartProfiler We recommend using square patches (e.g. 8mm x 8mm).
