2 General Information In order to guarantee that you have the best print quality possible we ask that you do the following: All files to be printed must be in.pdf or a photoshop format. Please include the original file in your print me folder. Make sure that all files are in the CYMK color mode as our printers use CYMK ink. Paper samples are available in the front of the IC that show different types of media, sizes, and cost for each printer. Location: The lower level of the Walter B. Ford in front of the elevators. 3 Digital Output Services Canon C1 Digital Output Services We will only print PDF and Photoshop files! Standard turnaround time is 4 hours. Please bring your files with adequate time to print. Please be aware that turnaround times at the end of the semester can be up to 10 hours for the Canon C1 laser printer. Your print will be printed in the order it was received. NO EXCEPTIONS! Make sure that your file is print ready upon drop-off. The IC will not alter any file under any circumstance. This includes size. We will only accept files on a flash drive, DVD, or a CD. No external hard drives, ipods, phones, etc. SD cards are acceptable if a reader for the card is provided. You must make a PRINT ME folder which contains the PDF or Photoshop file that you what printed. If you are submitting a PDF be sure to include the original file as well. Make sure that your form is complete as well as legible (See Figure 1). Also make sure to leave a phone number that you can be currently reached at. If for some reason we are unable to print your job, it is important for us to be able to reach you in order for your file to be printed in a timely matter. Each file to be printed must be individually listed with the correct file name on the digital output form Available upon request we have Pantone, CYMK, and RGB color charts. Any job that does not follow these guidelines will not be printed. All prints will be paid for upon pick up. Tiling: If you would like your file to be tiled in must be a PDF. Make any and all specifications in the special instructions space provided to you on the digital output form. These may include the amount of overlap, orientation, and percentage. Double sided color prints: You must submit a single PDF. No other file types or multiple files will be accepted for double sided printing. Each page will cost $1.50. The paper types that are available for double sided print are: Color copy 8.5 x 11 and 11 x 17 ; Card stock 8.5 x 11 only. Make sure that your images line up and that your pages are in the correct order. The Imaging Center is not responsible for pages that are out of order or misaligned.

This printer will not allow us to select any crop marks in Adobe Acrobat. Save the.pdf file with the crops marks if they are necessary. Files will only be accepted on the following media: CD, DVD, and flash drives. No external hard drives, ipods, playstations, etc. will be accepted. All files, images, and fonts must be put into a single folder labeled PRINT ME. Be sure to fill out the proper form. Ask an IC Technician which form is required if you are not sure. The file should be 2 inches by the width of your document and contain the area where you will receive the best representation of color. Any additional test strips are $3.50 a piece. 7 Spiral Book Binding The cost to spiral bind your book will be $2.00 for the binding itself, as well as, the regular cost per page to be printed. The IC does not offer covers, however if you bring a cover that is pre-cut and no thicker than matte board, it can be bound. We can spiral bind your book up to 11 inches. Spiral colors are available in black, white, clear, and brown. Your book must be submitted with the pages in proper order from front cover to back cover, page numbers are recommened. We can provide a blank cover [color copy, card stock, or transparency] for an additional charge of $1.00. Make sure that your form is complete as well as legible (See Figure 2). Also make sure to leave a phone number that you can be currently reached at. If for some reason we are unable to complete your job, it is important for us to be able to reach you in order for your job to be completed in a timely matter. All special intructions must be explain to an IC staff member upon submitting the request. 8 Photoshop CS4 General: Flatten your.psd file into one layer. Have the file you want to flatten open select file, save as. With the new file open go to the Layers menu and select Flatten Image. Save the file and copy it to your flash drive. If you are using an uncommon font please make sure you either include the font on your flash drive or more simply save your file as a.pdf. Tiling: Photoshop does NOT have the capability to tile. You can save the file as a.pdf and print the file from Acrobat which has a tiling feature. Or you can tile it yourself by cropping the image and making each new image its own file.

9 Creating a PDF: With your Photoshop file open select File Save As. In the format drop down menu select Photoshop PDF. Make sure your file is being saved in the correct place, such as you flash drive, and has the correct name and click Save. A dialog box may appear warning you that you may override your current settings. Click OK. In the compatibility drop down select Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) click Save PDF.

10 Illustrator CS4 Creating a PDF: With your Illustrator file open select File Save As. In the format drop down menu select Adobe PDF. Make sure your file is being saved in the correct place and has the correct name and click Save. In the compatibility drop down always select Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3). Check off any print marks and bleeds you want on your document. Under the advanced menu you can set the resolution for your transparency flattener. The default is set at medium and is usually sufficient. Click Save PDF.

11 InDesign CS4 Creating a PDF: With your InDesign file open select File Export. In the format drop down menu select Adobe PDF. Make sure your file is being saved in the correct place and has the correct name and click Save. In the compatibility drop down menu always select Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3). Check off any print marks and bleeds you want on your printed document. Under the advanced tab you can set the resolution for your transparency flattener. The default is set at medium and is usually sufficient. Click Export. Note: If you would like to print spreads you must select the spreads option under the general tab when you are exporting your PDF file, as well as indicate it on your form in the special instructions area. Thumbnails: If you would like to print thumbnails please indicate on your form in the special instructions form along with how many you would like per page.
