2 Distinctions to PDF/H PDF/H stands for PDF in Healthcare PDF/H is not an ISO standard!! it s a sort of Best Practice recommendation of AIIM, Adobe and a US consortium for the "Facilitation of capturing, exchanging, archiving and protection of information in healthcare PDF/H is not a specified format, but uses all possibilities and features of PDF (company standard Adobe PDF 1.7) safe electronic container for storing multi-media healthcare data and documents With PDF/A-3 the same objectives can be achieved, BUT in a standardized form. 2

11 Requirements of PDF/A-1 Standard All XMP properties used in the document must either be "predefined in a XMP specification or an extension schema for every data object has to be embedded XMP Extension Schemas PDF/A-1 is based on XMP specification of January 2004 Extension Schemas are described using the XMP language Description is permanently available together with the data Enforces a complete and consistent description of the meta data PDF/A allows for the integration of meta data exclusively via XMP 11
